I think our invite‘s got lost in the post, we finally cancelled our mail forwarding, so it’s got no way of getting to us now :(

Yup, I plan to watch the big show while sipping a cup of Scottish breakfast tea.

Yeah most likely, my wife loves her British history surrounding the royal family. Harry and William are also my cousins, so it's good to support family like that.

Saw today that Harry will attend - how could he not????? Meaghan stays home with the kids - her choice I’m sure.

I suspect she might fear if she went, that she would be walking into the lion's den.

Oh, I am sure she did. I personally think she wanted the benefits of the royal family but really didn't want to participate in their being.

Lots of ‘thoughts’ about her non-attendance, including not wanting to curtesy to the PoW

I think this is probably the best outcome for both. Kind Charles gets to have his son there but they dont have to deal
with the Mrs. Can you imagine anyone wanting to talk to them? I can't. First, for all the private stuff that they have already
made public, and second, not knowing if what anyone said would be next to be public. All you could discuss is the
weather.

I agree with you @MissGotRocks ...cant believe they grabbed those titles for their kids. If the "firm" is such a terrible thing you
would think they would want to keep their kids out of it. Guess not! If I was King Charles I'm not so sure I would have gone
along with it. Not really out of spite but more so that they dont like the firm so it doesnt make sense to tie their kids to it with
royal titles plus, the fact that Charles was wanting to streamline the monarchy. Of course, if Charles said No, it would have
been the end of any kind of reconciliation.

I have said this before, in that H&M have a very strange way of not wanting to be part of that family.

Their own press announcement was full of titles, including those of their children, that they insist are theirs as their birth rights.

I wish he is denied to attend for responding 10 days late after the date of R.S.V.P., however, I guess the King wants him to be there.

No doubt he will moan about being given the cold shoulders by his family.

However, it is his own fault he cannot be trusted for fear that he will reveal the contents of any private conversation at a later date for whatever reason(s).

DK :roll2:

Well, I ordered Tea in a commemorative tin from Fortnum and Mason and a Coronation tea towel. I'm sure I'll be awake at 3am to watch it all.
Regarding the Harry and Meghan mess, I'm reading Harry is planning to attend the coronation and then fly back home. Maybe make it home in time for Archies birthday. I've also read Meg was not invited (gee, I wonder why!!) She was trying to negotiate what she wanted and the palace said no. So she spins it that she is staying home with the kids. The PR stunts these 2 have put out over the years is just ridiculous. I do read various blogs, IG accts and Twitter to keep up. But I'm quite tired of their BS.

i feel sorry for the King
he's dammed if he does (have H there) and dammed if he doesnt have H there
but as a father it makes sence no matter how angry and dissapointed he is with H he would want both his sons to be there
yes its a state event, but its the bigest moment in both the king and queen's life so they need their children there to support them

i just hope H is stuck behind a big pillar
and the internet is out due to mutible hard to fix faults in a certain street in Montecito at least for a good week

i hope Sophie and Anne get ample oppertunity to rips strips off H, maybe Princess Micheal and the Duchess of Gloucerter can have a go at him too

i can remember my 3rd birthday but not my 4th or 5th
ive never understood big birthday parties for tiny little kids with lots of mum and dad's friends and booze - i mean who's day is it ???

My 3rd birthday was just mum and dad and grandma and grandad
i completly destroyed the cake and mum had to put the candles on the bowl of jelly

I hope he'll get what I call the "Siberia bucket" treatment - ice cold, once inside, no chance of getting out.

I just read that MM has said she didn’t want to ‘overshadow’ the event, so that’s why she’s decided not to come. Hmmm, yes, I’m sure everybody would’ve only been watching to see her:roll2: Yes, I know, the press prints lots of rubbish, and this is probably some of it, but honestly, with everything that’s gone on, it’s hard not to think there might be a grain of truth in it.

I think it's more that she couldn't handle being "booed" when they arrive and depart the coronation. Wonder if Harry on his own
will be booed?

I suppose my interest in watching the coronation comes in part from hearing my Dutch mother. Her memories of the queens she grew up with - Wilhelmina and Juliana - were always positive. Far from being just a figurehead, Wilhelmina had played an important role in WWII.

@Austina, @Ally T, @Daisys and Diamonds , How do you feel about King Charles having the people say a pledge of allegiance to the King?
The were talking about this on our US news this morning. I’m curious to how people feel about this.

I won’t wake up early to see the coronation but plan on watching some coverage and specials on it. I can’t wait to see the beautiful jewelry.

I pledge allegiance to nobody :lol-2:

I love the Royal family though, but it feels somewhat old fashioned to ask that of people. And how will they know if you have done it or not?? It does seem a little bizarre, but I guess in previous Coronations that was what people did.

It’s been SUCH a large gap from the last Coronation to this & we live in a different time now.

When I became a full British National back in the early 90s, there was no test and no ceremony, nothing, just a certificate or whatever in the post!

Had I had to go through a ceremony and swore allegiance to the Queen then, I would have gladly done so.

Therefore, I shall gladly swear allegiance to the King.

I am a monarchist through and through.

DK :))

Thank you @Ally T and @dk168, I just went and looked up an article on this. The article I read said this is outdated and should have ended after the Queen. I‘m really surprised King Charles wanted this. In my mind pledging allegiance to your country and to a person are very different things.

I had raised a glass and said "For Queen and Country" in the past, so why not "For King and Country"?

Obviously I can't speak for the whole of Scotland :-), but I wouldn't be surprised if at the time of the pledge you instead hear FREEDOM a la Mel Gibson style (Brave heart).

Personally, I won't be swearing no allegiance to nobody. I wouldn't be curtseying either. In my experience (again I can't speak for the whole country) but in Scotland there is little enthusiasm/interest in the coronation or the royal family.

i was in the army so its nothing i havn't said before (well it was Elizabeth and her heirs but same thing with Charles) so i will definatly say it happily
i think its a nice idea and if people dont want to do it no one is forcing them
American school kids pledge alligence every day

not the updated ones but the version i would have said
the armed services take these things quite serously

Terms and conditions of service

3 Oath of allegiance

(1)
For the purpose of section 35 of the Act, the oath of allegiance shall be in the following form, or in a form to the like effect:

I, [name], solemnly promise and swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to our Sovereign Lady the Queen, her heirs and successors, and that I will faithfully serve in the New Zealand Naval Forces/the New Zealand Army/the Royal New Zealand Air Force [delete the Services that are not appropriate], and that I will loyally observe and obey all orders of Her Majesty, her heirs and successors, and of the officers set over me, until I shall be lawfully discharged. So help me God.”
(2)
This regulation does not derogate from section 4 of the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957, which entitles a person to make an affirmation instead of taking an oath.
