Do you get Botox? Why or why not?

Wow! I’m so relieved to read of another weather-sensitive person. My body reacts so strongly to barometric changes. I have barometers all over the house for validation! I just give in to it if I am able. I will say, my quick trip to Arizona’s climate did alleviate a lot of my symptoms … be well ❤️
Thank you. While I'm sorry to hear of your symptoms, I am glad I am not alone.

Again, sorry to hear, but glad I am not alone.

What I would call a headache, migraine sufferers would likely not even notice...

Barometric pressure (a low pressure system approaching to replace/affect a current high pressure system) definitely affects me. Since childhood, I will get what I call a pressure headache where it just feels like pressure is building up in my head. When the low pressure system arrives, the headache leaves. I'll notice a couple days ahead of a big system, and it can be as little as a few hours before a minor system.

On topic: Nope, far too cowardly to have Botox (or anything else) injected.
I have had all the headaches... migraine, cluster, tension, pressure, you name it. At one point they thought I had this thing called pseudotumor ceribri, which is an excess of spinal fluid buildup causing tumor-like symptoms. I don't have that thankfully. I am sorry for you too.

Many of my headaches that aren't caused by weather are ADHD sensory overload. Migraine can cause sensory overload, and sensory overload can cause migraine. Sigh. It took a long, long time to figure that out, but in the past few years since I have, things have been much better.

I've read that, because Botox is technically a toxin, EVERY SINGLE BATCH is tested on rabbits. Which means my individual use of it could result in more animal testing.

Since I don't need it for medical reasons (like migraines) I won't use it.

Also, the HIV issue :eek-2:

My injections are done by my neurologist in his office within a hospital. No back alley voodoo stuff here. Syringe is new. The Botox is sent to the neurologist by a specialty pharmacy for me and the remainder is discarded. It would be unethical and likely illegal to utilize the left over on someone else.

I have terrible migraines. 3 day puking affairs. Often. Does this truly work? Can you give a price if you're comfortable? I just want to live without pain.

It depends on whether the migraines are caused by tension issues in the muscles, which the physician will assess via questions.

It truly helps the back of my head, which is where some of my migraines originate.

Further down in the post, infusions were mentioned. I also take a monthly injection of a medication called Aimovig. I do it myself. This was my game changer, going from more than 20 migraines per month to around six (hormonal) and the severity of those greatly reduced.

I believe the Botox was around $1600.00 (every three months), and then there was the doctor's fees.

Well, I'm ancient and it wouldn't do me much good. But the thought of injecting poising in my face, so close to my eyes, makes me say hell no! I realize there seem to be very few problems with it, but I wouldn't want to be the exception. Now if I was much younger? I don't know if I would want to take the risk or not.

Fillers and lip injections? Not at any age, for me.

My mother gets monthly injections of rat poison (Warfarin) It prevents strokes. My dad's heart medicine was based on digitalis also a strong poison.

The difference between medicine and poison is often simply the dosage.

No because I'm too cheap and too lazy! I should perm my hair (I do love curls) but it takes 5 hours and I'm just ..... Lazy!

I'll try to revive the previous core subject of this discussion, leaving aside the ethics of animal testing (I'm not familiar with the facts) and medical uses (when it's necessary, it's necessary).

I never even imagined people in their 30s used botox. I'm 33. Never crossed my mind. Still doesn't.

I believe there is inherent harm in equating beauty with youth. I don't mean it in the sense that it's wrong for a person to want to look youthful. But I do find it sad that... well, let's be honest, women, especially, are not allowed to feel beautiful and wonderful at the age they're at. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful and confident, whether she's 23, 38, 55 or 70. Growing old doesn't mean becoming ugly, nor should it. In that sense, I fully agree with:

So no, I don't use botox. I have no medical need for it, and I find it unnecessary for cosmetic purposes. I also don't dye my hair. It's already started to turn grey and I'm excited to witness the process. I have a stylish gray streak on my left side when I put my hair up and I love how it looks.

I think this is more my style. I appreciate this discussion because it’s helping me see all sides. Even if I end up looking like “the old one” among my friends, at least I’ll feel like I took the path that was right for me.

Thanks everyone for sharing your perspectives!

There is a woman on here with a gold bone cuff and great jewelry. She posted a picture of herself with red lipstick and grey hair. I have no idea if she uses Botox but I was blown away by how classy and elegant and stylish she looked- and the grey (silver!) hair implied she wasn’t trying to hide her age, but she was fully embodying it in all of its splendour. Perhaps I am making some assumptions. But it was the impression I got.

Her username is @HollyC I think? Please know that you inspire me! May I look half as sophisticated as you when the rest of my hair turns silver.

i just wanted to thank everyone who is giving great information again, I will check back and go over to the migraine thread.
Just as soon as this banger is over.

Thank you so much @diamondyes, what a beautiful thing to say. And, you are absolutely right, I am fully embracing aging. I love my natural hair colour.
I find a bold lip and fabulous accessories can elevate any look. ❤️

Oops, edited to add....no I don't use Botox or any other cosmetic procedures. No judgement either way, it's just not for me.

It's not uncommon where I work for the ladies to get botox, and chemical peels. I'm not sure about the fillers because I haven't heard them talk about it but it, but they are very upfront about sharing the other procedures. Most of them are in their 30's and 40's. They look nice, I would never guess they had any procedures done.

I would love to hear more about your style journey, where you find your inspiration… your aesthetic is so up my alley. My own style aspires to be edgy Audrey Hepburn.

I have the exact same issue. I use the barometer on my phone and have the red line marked at the point where the headaches usually start. Mine leaves when the system arrives too.

So fascinating that we could (we are?) be human barometers.

My DH used to just humour me (he was in a very logical, scientific/measurement-based industry) until he saw how accurate my "forecasting" was. Now, he's very sympathetic, and will check out the weather to see when the system will arrive—although I usually already know, based on my symptoms.

I always just thought I was weird, (or nuts) but then one day at work I mentioned that I knew when it was going to rain because I get headaches and a co-worker said "yes, I get barometric headaches too". I never knew that they were a "thing" but I looked it up online, and it is.

And here I thought it was a rarity, I have several barometers in my house. I can usually pretty accurately gauge inHg. I hate it, and am ridiculously sensitive to it. I can feel systems way before they get to us.:confused2:

I have several friends who started getting Botox and some fillers in their 30s and they just look a little fresher. I had no idea one of my friends who is my same age started 10 years ago! She’s smart, she went back to school for a nursing license (I forget which one/what kind) and now works in a provider’s office so she gets a discount on her treatments.

I did some writing for a provider in Edina(?), or maybe Eden Prairie, MN a couple years back and found it really interesting. I’m fascinated by all of it but I am also a realistic former sun worshiper and don’t have high expectations for aging minimally. Haha

Just think! In the "olden days" prior to things like barometers, we might have been considered wise women who could forecast weather for our clans. Of course, the flip side is that we may have also been cast out for being too witchy/freaky...:roll2: ;)2

@HollyC
I just wanted to add, oops I looked at your photo again and I think your hair is not silver, it is brown, my mistake! Wishful thinking on my part! You’re still classy AF and thanks for taking my compliments in the spirit in which they were given.

Like every drug in the world there will be some who have reactions. That’s the reason why I chose to go to a registered General Practitioner so if there was any issues he would be able to assist.

Oh @diamondyes, you are correct. I am grey. I'll post another photo over in the colour stones thread as I'm wearing my gemstone earrings. See you over there

My friend gave me a gift certificate for a medical spa last year so I started doing research. I found a group on FB called Botox Dysport side affects. The stories shared in this group is enough to make me feel like it should be banned. An article shared in this group from Europe said 4 out of 5 users can be affected, but most don't realize their heightened anxiety or their palpitations or dry mouth is from the Botox in their forehead. Some describe what they suffer with makes them contemplate horrible things. One notable post shared about the toxin spreading throughout her body causing muscle wasting and a heart rate of 48. Some suffer for years. It is heartbreaking.

It says post removed, what was it about?

Oh wow… sorry. A woman got very sick from using Botox. Ended up in the hospital in serious condition with poisoning from the Botox. I didn’t read the all of the comments, but she felt strongly that she needed to warn others of the possible side effects because provider’s apparently often do not …

Eta I just went to the thread and it remains open, but her OG comments are gone. She had ~6k replies!!

I scrolled through some of the comments but none really said what the issue was. Thank you for sharing! This is the sort of info that makes me nervous about getting it!

Cannot recommend Botox enough, I've had it religiously every 4 months for the last few years as I had just started to notice the very very fine lines around the eyes and got to say it's Amazing! I pair it with every other day EMS facials that lift and tone the muscles (Nu Face it's called) also do LED light mask therapy 10 mins a day.

The skin you have today will be the skin you inherit in the Future preventative Skin Care is much more affective than any other Care Botox, SPF & a Good Skincare Routine can save you Thousands down the line.

+1

I'm on lots of Rxs.
With every refill I read the updated bulletin listing side effects et al.
I want to keep updated on the possible side effects ... notice the word POSSIBLE.
I know people who will not take what their doctor prescribes because, ... "ACK! THAT MIGHT HAPPEN!"

But every Rx comes with the something like following statement, "Your doctor has determined that the benefits of the drug outweigh the risks of its possible side effects."

Gambling with odds is fine with me because the odds are in my favor.

But, as always, to each their own.
Let them keep suffering from whatever the drug (they rejected) could have helped with.

People surely do vary.

Oh, and I still would never consider using Botox.
Even if there were no possible side effects, I don't want to conform to our society's repugnant standards. :knockout:

Also, ya ever notice how the police never stop you to tell you how well you were driving?
Only the bad stuff gets attention.

And, so it goes with the media.
They make money selling ads.
The more eyes they can catch, the more they can justifying charging for ads the sell.

So, reporting that Mr. Smith suffered XYZ shocking and horrible side effects from drug A gets a lot more eyeballs than they'd get for reporting the 8,245,215,147 stories of the folks on drug A, with no side effects, only benefit.

Pay attention folks to how we are being manipulated by pushing our most effective and powerful emotional button ... fear.

Media doesn't give a flying F about your health; they're too busy maximizing their ad dollars.
Just like social media does - but without the steroids.

Like clockwork, and since losing 115lbs, I need 3-4x the amount I did before, which kinda sucks.

Also Botox injections by far are the most pop

Wow congratulations on your Weightloss that's amazing!!! I started to use an at home EMS Facial Toner after I lost weight and it really toned much better than I expected basically got rid of alot of fat and puffiness & it got rid of my unsightly double chin, Cannot recommend them enough you can buy them on Amazon for less than $60 or you can get the more expensive Nu Face Mini you just need to use collagen Gel and do it every day for 10 mins for 6 weeks then weekly but it's worth it, you can't use it for two weeks after botox it also apparently releases collagen and firms the skin even more as its actually working out the muscles.

Can you link me to the facial you use?
