Do you keep bread at room temp or in the fridge?

I only eat wheat bread, and I keep it in the refrigerator. Bread gets moldy if it's kept at room temperature for too long. I always toast the bread, so I don't notice any difference in flavor.

This is what my dh does. He toasts it also. He also said it gets moldy when he leaves it out but in the fridge it lasts a couple of weeks easy and toasted he said it tastes great.

Ah so this explains it.

"When bread is kept in the refrigerator, the water that was absorbed during baking starts to evaporate (known as starch retrogradation), and the bread becomes stale," says Levinson. "It's best to leave fresh bread out if you are going to use it within a day or two, or put it in the freezer."

...I assumed it would also be bad in the freezer but maybe I will try that instead.

Its weird when you have done something your whole life and being doubt it works :mrgreen2:

On the white bread note - i do not lile brown or wholemeal bread - i like multigrains, the ones with linseed in ..i forgot what linseed is called in the rest of the world

Bread in our house is either in the freezer or at room temp, never in the fridge.

Home-baked whole-wheat bread (having no preservative), I keep at room temp in a brown paper bag. (2 loaves get eaten in 2 or 3 days)
Store-bought whole-wheat bread, in refrigerator in original plastic bag.
2 loaves get eaten in 2 or 3 days! That seems to be an alarming rate of consumption. I personally take a week and a half, eating 2 slices per day, to go through an entire loaf of regular sandwich bread. How big are the loaves you're talking about?

Maybe I don't know how to eat bread as bread? I only consume it with other stuff, not on its own very often, especially if it's not an artisanal or sourdough loaf.

Freeze most, pull a few slices out at a time to thaw.

Voce I love your new avatar. :kiss2:
And I think you are eating bread just fine. Eat it the way you love and enjoy to eat it and that's the right way.
