Do you wear your ring at the beach or pool?

I'm afraid of waters.

I'm in the pool or at the beach every day and I don't take my stuff off, ever. Speaking from a chemistry background, pool chemicals are not going to damage your metal- your skin would alert you first. I'm team "rings are made to be worn" :P2

I don’t wear any rings to the beach or pool, but to be honest I don’t even wear my rings if I’m just sitting around the house. I only wear my rings out socially and where I know they hopefully won’t be damaged.

I don't have a problem wearing my ring to the beach, but I leave it at home if I'll be swimming in the ocean. The heat makes my fingers swell, but they shrink waaaay down once I'm in cold saltwater.
THIS!
Biggest reason not to wear any rings when swimming at the beach or in a lake. Fingers shrink plus water acts like a lubricant. Most people never even realize their ring has come off.

You know why those guys are always out at the beach with their metal detectors at low tide? :cool2:

Not happening :errrr: Loss - lubricating salt water, quick temperature changes. Chlorine damage. Abrasive sand.

We all just need to get ourselves some Lightbox stones that are perfect for vacation Right Nows that we won't mind losing or damaging :mrgreen2:

Great thread! Back when I got engaged a woman told me "Better to have a dirty ring than no ring" when we were discussing what to do with rings when washing hands in a public bathroom. I still hear her saying that when I'm washing my hands!
This 100% my original e-ring and band were stolen after being left for appx 30 seconds by a sink. Never again do I take them off. :naughty:

I never take my rings off. I just clean them daily. Hot tub, pool, beach, gym, shower, sleeping. I’ve been married almost 24yrs. Look like new. Even if they didn’t, I’d just have them repaired. That’s just me.

So I've decided to wear it at the beach. I want to look at it and it will be insured. I like to live dangerously.

I wear mine too. Insured. Problem with jeweler’s mutual is that I think they would replace it to same clarity and color, but what about cut? What if you have a super ideal cut? We all know you can buy a 5 ct for $60k or $100k. I have always been confused about this. All my jewelry is insured with them.

I wore my Rolex, bracelet and rings in water in Caribbean. But I don’t swim long and keep my fingers pretty tight and aware. I usually just go in to soak. Leaving the engagement ring in a hotel room freaks me out more or in their little safe.

Where do you leave your diamond when traveling? Hotel safe? Any manager can open it if you forget code which scares me, especially if a staff member saw you wearing jewelry then going out without it.

Agreed. You can always do a reset one day in distant future if any wear. Unless setting has value in some way. To me the value is in diamond and I’m ok to reset.

I'd encourage my girl to leave the bling off when in the water. I'm totally cool with a cheap metal or rubber band if she wants something but the risk seems silly to me.

But then again I had a buddy that his girl lost a 2 carat princess cut playing volleyball in the pool. That's stuck with me since it occurred. Both were so distraught over the situation.

I used to, but last summer we were in the ocean and it was MUCH colder and rougher than usual. I was lucky and only lost my sunglasses. Which ticked me off since they were new. But. I remember feeling how my rings were all of a sudden very loose in the cold water and making a fist so they would stay on. After losing my sunglasses, my next thought was, “you are so lucky that wasn’t your engagement ring.”

For the past couple of years I have had silicone rings I wear to work out. They are super comfortable, especially when your fingers swell. So I’ve just been wearing those to the beach and pool. Enso makes really cute ones, including ones that look just like metal. Everyone I’ve shown mine to has been shocked it was not my actual wedding band.

I am a native Floridian so have been around beaches and pools all my life. I have learned the very hard way that it is never a good idea to wear anything you can't afford to lose at the beach or the pool!!! There are just too many scenarios where something can happen.

I like to wear cheap or fake jewelry so I can still have some bling without worry (plus it lets me try something different). My hubby is like, OMG of course you found another reason to buy MORE jewelry. :Up_to_something:

I wouldn't wear my 2+ carat OEC engagement ring or my antique pear ring as the stones would be very hard to replace!!!

Those silicone rings are perfect for so many situations. My daughter is a paramedic and won’t even wear her gold wedding band on duty, due to all the heavy lifting and equipment. She doesn’t want to get it all scratched up or bent, or even smashed onto her finger. She wears silicone bands and they work great.

I guess for you soxfan you really want your new diamond ring to be your “everyday” ring, but unless you are careful with your hands, you will potentially chip the girdles and abrade the gold. Personal choice. Have fun at the shore!

Re-read the terms. I believe it is like same. Additionally, your appraisal should at least cover the cost of the diamond + a little more to adjust for inflation/fluctuation in diamond prices. Having had to have JM do a replacement, I chose the jeweler I wanted to work with, and they wrote up a quote for a replacement. Once JM approved, they released the funds to the jeweler and I chose the diamond that I wanted.
