I actually CARRY around my supersonic cleaner with me so that I can take care of any finger prints right away. So when other people read their books on the bus - I clean my rings!! When people want to see it (and touch it) I give them hand sanitizer (sits next to the supersonic cleaner) and instruct them not to touch the stone(s).

The only problem is when strangers just stick their dirty finger onto your table and you had no idea that they''re going to do that. I mean, like yesterday, when I was in Versace, the SA managed to persuade me to buy a pair of shoes there (and I wasn''t even there to look for shoes, I was looking for a dress); when I went to sign my credit card slip, all of a sudden, she put her filthy finger on my table and said:" OMG, that''s gorgeous big rock you have there!! How big is it?!!".

I was sooo upset, I *hate* it when strangers think they have the right to touch my diamond, especially when it''s nice and clean, and *hate* it doubly when they think they have the right to know the size of your diamond!! Well, that was the last time I shopped there or at least the last time I bought anything from that girl. I actually told her afterwards that she shouldn''t have touched my diammond (and mind you, I never worked up enough encourage to tell other people when they''d done this before, but I''ve had enough of this audacity) and she was like: "Oh, other people don''t mind!!". So I told her:" I am not other people!!"

Good for you!

Do people ever carry around the soft cloths for cleaning your glasses, etc.?

I have an iphone, and the smudges drive me crazy, so I ALWAYS have a cloth with me - I find them handy for cleaning smudges off my rings!

Of course, I''m not as hardcore as Rob with the supersonic

I HATE IT ALSO!Also when people would do this in the jewelry stores i worked in...guess who has to clean every ring when its been handled like this...amazes me when people would get a ring stuck ...instead of letting me help them, they put the ring in their mouth or spit on it to get it off...then hand it back to me!!!....then THEY would act offended when I go to get a tissue to pick the ring up and put it in the jewelry cleaner!

WHOA....are you serious??? I''m sorry you had to go through this. Some people are clueless when it comes to simple manners.

yep...as the other jewelry retail people will tell you...it happens more then it should.
EWWW!

For a second I read this and thought MY RING was stuck on THEIR FINGER.
I was like OMG I''d kill them if they wanted me to put a spit ring back on...

Then I realized it was a customer, and that is gross. You have to deal w/ things all day long, and chance getting sick, and they expect you to handle their ring after they just ate a pretzel from the food court? YUK!

No matter which scenario... people''s juices should just stay w/ themselves. I don''t mind causing drool... I just dont want to be the one to wipe it up.

That is not a pretty visual in my head.

People''s juices are one thing...but wiping it up for them?

It really does take a lot of patience to deal with all kinds of customers.
