It hasn''t happened yet. I might go postal if it did.

D''s mother is the only person who consistently does this to my ring! It drives me barmy but I know that she means well as she adores it. I just go home and clean it afterwards.

That is EXACTLY how salespeople at a grocery store feel when customers touch the glass panes/dividers to point to the food they want !!! Hope everybody hating their diamonds to be touched remembers that the next time they shop!!!

It drives me nuts when people do that!!!
32.gif

I''m so anal about my ring... I have to polish it asap, even if it''s just on my t-shirt or something!!
I would never put my fingers all over someone''s diamonds!!
I do the same thing, and make it blatantly obvious that I''m cleaning off their mess!

The worst that ever happened to me was a woman I work with that I rarely talk to had the audacity to grab my hand and try to take off my ring because she wanted to see what it would look like for her to have ''more diamonds''. I was so peeved she did that, she actually got the ring a little past my knuckle before I snapped at her. Needless to say, she hasn''t really tried to talk to me since... who does that?

Sweetjettagirl: One of my "friends" tried to pull that on me!
29.gif
I was so appalled I couldn''t even move until she had it midway past my knuckle! Another time when I had it off to lotion my hands she quicky snatched it up and held it up to the light so she could see the inscription on the inside. Again, I couldn''t believe my eyes because she knew the inscription was personal and up to that point I still hadn''t told her what it was. Needless to say I was frozen in anger but snapped back to my senses fast enuff to snatch it back from her when she attempted to TRY MY RING ON
23.gif
Can we say "DEATHWISH". I lost it. I went clean off on her and told her she''ll be able to "see how pretty it would look on her fingers" when she got one of her own. NO- ONE, AND I MEAN NO-ONE tries on my ring!

I would be okay with it if it was really a friend, we all swap our rings around and try ''em on. But, I know how you feel, I would be upset if i had made it clear to anyone, especially a friend, that I didn''t feel comfortable letting them try it on and they didn''t respect that. I think my statement to my coworker was something along the lines of "what the ____ do you think you''re doing?" ( and it wasn''t hell.... )
23.gif

I''m OK with passing my rings around among friends, and having friends try my rings on doesn''t really bother me, but I always wince when there''s that inevitable person that touches the table of a stone or some other part of the ring that shouldn''t be touched
29.gif

Interestingly, I''m really big on personal space as a general rule - I''m just not a touchy-feely person at all, and I think if I ever did decide to have kids, it would make me SUPER uncomfortable to have strangers touching my stomach
14.gif

Gah! I hate it when people do that! WHY the need to touch the table?
29.gif
It''s infuriating, since I clean it every.single.day! And yea, people asking to "try it on"? WTF? I don''t THINK so!!!!
23.gif

While I don't care for people touching my diamond, it's really not that big a deal. I went for a CT scan on Friday and three techs commented on my ring. One touched it and showed it to another tech who said you could see it from across the room
10.gif
I don't think a lot of people see the ideal cut diamonds that we PSers wear and are truly interested in getting a close up look at these beauties. It makes them happy and I'm happy to oblige. It's easy enough to clean my rings and the compliments are nice to receive

I would be pretty uncomfortable if someone, even one of my friends, picked up my ring out of nowhere (assuming that I EVER take it off)... None of my friends are as obsessed, or "knowledgeable" about jewelery as I am. They might have no problem touching all over it, trying it on, or *EEK* dropping it. If they asked, then it''s ok, but just picking it up with no notice... Not a good idea. Ever poke a bear with a stick? Not a pretty picture...

I''m not overly sensitive with things like that....it doesn''t bother me at all.

The diamond...or the bump?

ETA: Whatever happened to telling children 'you look with your eyes, not your hands', and then we wouldn't have all these finger poking adults walking around.

AS soon as I see fingers approaching one of my pretties, I either back away from the person or move my hand out of reach.

The kids I teach at dance ALL wanted to touch it. I had to go home and clean it right away!

And if anyone ever touched my belly just because I was pregnant (or really for any reason), I''d clearly state my discomfort with it. I''m a BIG fan of personal space!

It has happened to me too. I hate it and it drives me crazy. My rings get an extra long bath as soon as possible.

I absolutely HATE it when someone puts their grubby fingers on my rings. I try very hard not to get my e-ring dirty because my EC shows every last particle of dirt that gets on it. It''s to the point where I don''t really like my FI holding my left hand if his hand rests on the diamond. I''m pretty sure that is completely crazy, so I don''t really say anything to him, but I''m sure he has noticed my weird avoidance maneuvers.

Do all of you mostly suck it up when it comes to hand-holding?

P.S. If someone touches my belly when I''m pregnant, they better prepare for a lecture from me.

Everytime I got out with my boyfriend and he holds my hand he just HAS to play with any ring I have on... it drives me NUTS
19.gif
Moves it around... pushes it down ... wipes the stone...
39.gif

He laughs everytime because I get so weird about it ... but.. sigh... he just doesn''t understand!

Nope I position my hand strategically so he is not touching the diamond

You know, I must say, I''ve never really understood it when people, especially strangers, feel the *need* to touch a pregnant belly. I''ve never been pregnant but just as well, because for sure I''d "TOTALLY BITE!!". It''s a total invasion of privacy and how dare they think they have the right to touch someone else''s belly. It''s not theirs!!

at the beginning i was rather anal about my ring being smudged every time we held hands, but i realized he got kind of hurt by that and heck, the ring was a gift from him and i can always have it cleaned. So i just suck it up and hold his hands :)

I HATE IT ALSO!Also when people would do this in the jewelry stores i worked in...guess who has to clean every ring when its been handled like this...amazes me when people would get a ring stuck ...instead of letting me help them, they put the ring in their mouth or spit on it to get it off...then hand it back to me!!!....then THEY would act offended when I go to get a tissue to pick the ring up and put it in the jewelry cleaner!

LOL....I never say no to hand-holding. It''s just too romantic to pass up. I feel like I''m his girlfriend again.

Then again, that''s just me.

I do the same thing - even funnier, my DH now knows not to get his fingers on the diamonds, and he is very careful to avoid it

EWWW!

For a second I read this and thought MY RING was stuck on THEIR FINGER.
I was like OMG I''d kill them if they wanted me to put a spit ring back on...
29.gif

Then I realized it was a customer, and that is gross. You have to deal w/ things all day long, and chance getting sick, and they expect you to handle their ring after they just ate a pretzel from the food court? YUK!

No matter which scenario... people''s juices should just stay w/ themselves. I don''t mind causing drool... I just dont want to be the one to wipe it up.

yeah, it kinda bugs me when people touch my ring (or hand for that matter)

so now when someone comments on it, i hold my hand up like in a reverse wave instead of down towards them. that does the trick!
