Double halo pear shape ring

Thanks so much guys! I’m speaking with David from Diamonds by Lauren and I think we’re going to go that route! I’ll have him help me pick a pear that he feels would really suit the halo we’re creating. David said what I want would definitely be realistic within budget, and my boyfriend is on board. I’ll be sure to post an update when I get the ring (it might not be till November though, since that’s when I think he may propose!). Again, I really appreciate all of the advice you guys have given me and I’m really excited to watch what I’m dreaming of come to life.

I agree with @PintoBean and @yssie who say that 1-stop shopping will definitely be the most cost effective (usually). I think in this case going with ID jewelry or James Allen or diamonds by lauren for everything would be your best bet. David does incredible work, but there is more effort (and potential cost) incurred when you have 2 different vendors.

ETA: Have you tried on a pear in person? I only ask because I was originally *set* on a pear or a 3-stone, I felt totally confident. But then when I went to try on rings in person, I felt like the pear and 3-stone looked slightly less like "engagement" rings than I wanted. Obviously this is a 100% personal choice, but I always want to check :)

I have tried a few on! For some reason, the double halo made it look more like an “engagement ring” to me than a single halo, so I totally understand what you’re saying. Hopefully we can create something that I’ll be happy with :)

i LOVE the shape, David really has a knack for pears. Have you seen a video?

I love the shape too! David picked it for that reason. I haven’t seen a video. Should I ask for one?

What a cute fat little pear!!!!!

i would want to see a video before i purchased. Looks like it has a bit of a bowtie? May be a trick of the camera and may be so small it wouldn't matter at all. (my marquise has a small bowtie, doesn't bother me in the slightest) i'd want to see it moving before fully deciding. But, tbh i literally have not seen a pear on the DBL site that i didn't like.

I like the fat one. Most pears have a slight bow-tie. It wouldn't bother me. And it would look SO good in a double halo. I have a fat pear too and I love the shape...

I love your ring! The setting is gorgeous! What color is your pear?

Team chubby pear here too! For the double halo, how about tiny inner stones with slightly bigger outer. Will see if I can post inspo when home in a few hours.

I agree with the love for the chubby pear. It still has a nice face up size, too.

Alright guys, one more question. I went back to Jared to try on the original ring that made me want a double halo pear ring. I didn’t realize it the first time I tried it on, but in addition to the double halo, it has diamonds on the outside of the center stone. I’ll attach a few pics as it’s kind of hard to explain. I really love this feature. How would I best explain what I want to David?

Double halo with pave on the side (sometimes called 2-sided pave), no airline, halos stair-stepped. You want a V-prong on the pear tip (really!). But, David is very astute and DBL does great pave. No worries. :mrgreen2:

Read through @ellebelle pear thread. It will help you learn some terms to describe what you want and get some options. @sledge thread may also be a useful read. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/cad-images-from-dk.241261/

The setting you like has the two rows of the halo stair-stepped, because they set the stones dead flat. What do I mean? To set a pave diamond, they drill a hole in metal. Those Jared settings drill those holes vertical (left). But, halos look much nicer IMHO when the stones are tilted outward by about 20 degrees (right)....glossing over some details...its simply the angle they drill and set the stones. For the outer halo, if you go with stones on the outside, they need to drill vertical. But, for the inner one, they can tilt it.

You can see that nice tilt on the inner halo in the below example.

One thing to consider is that pave setting with that much diamond to metal need to be treated gently. For a ring you likely wish to wear daily, think carefully about how you want to find a balance between bling and wearability. Pave on the sides can be scratchy when you grab a hand and can rub on adjacent rings. Every little diamond is held with prongs. I'm not a fan of pave on the sides in setting, but I'm not wearer.

You can skip that by simply tilting the outer halo outward more strongly like this one. By tilting that second halo, you don't need the third row and still see the lovely diamonds.

Forgive the terrible example, but this is the idea of making the inner stones smaller than the outer stones.

Thanks for all of that information! You do make a good point about the diamonds on the side being likely to catch/scratchy. I’m a nurse so obviously I need to be cautious of this while wearing gloves. I’m not sure that I’ll wear my ring at work anyway, but you’re right that the diamonds on the side may not be compatible just for every day wear and lifestyle either.

For most folks in a medical field or do lab work, I'd recommend some changes. You may or may not want these, but here are my tweaks.
1) Bead set the pave halos and any other side stones,
2) Set the pear as low as possible and/or bezel set the pear. The prongs and tip will otherwise shred gloves when in a hurry. Also, I find rings sticking up into my gloves annoying and uncomfortable...especially with nitrile.
3) Set the head as low as possible to still allow a flush wedding band. Same reason and #2 + you can always default to wearing just the straight band.
4) Soften the pear "tip" and V-prong.
5) Platinum or palladium. No gold. If you are in a medical setting that involves scrubbing with iodine, that will stain gold. It will buff off, but it gets old to deal with it.

I really like the chubby pear. Mine is an EGL F SI-2. Here is a front shot.
Deborah-Thompson-1.jpg I never seem to keep my jewelry as shiny as the vendor shot which is why I posted it instead of a daily wear shot.

Thanks for the recommendations! Honestly, I’m not a fan of bead set. I think I’m just going to not wear my ring at work, and will get a simple wedding band to wear to work when we get married. It’s my way of having what I love, but not worrying about it with gloves haha.

Always lovely to see her! Love your setting and pear.

I actually get my platinum satin finished to just accelerate the patina. I'm not a shiny metal fan.

Its great that you know what you like and don't...that will really help you get a ring you will love.
