You know... as I scrolled up and looked at her picture that I posted, I just realized that her mouth doesn''t look as swollen or red. The vet told me to take pictures so that I could see her progress. It''s true. She does look better today than two days ago. Yay!

She is making progress. Please don''t put her down. She probably doesn''t feel too badly about her current condition. I liken dogs like kids, they often don''t feel as much pain as the adults would perceive. When I was a kid, I had a terrible accident that my mom though I was going to die. The only thing I remember was that the stack of bricks fell on me, and people were running to save me. For the next couple months, I couldn''t walk. My mom had to carry me everywhere on her back. My mom often talks about this accident, but I hardly remember any pain. I remember the good treatments I had received though. Your dog is probably feeling special now that he gets more attention from you. Hang in there, both you and your baby is going to be alright. I know it is stressful for you, but many of us are praying for you and your baby.

deleted. Double post.

LC: I am so happy to hear this. If she was in pain, she would definitely let you know. She is adjusting wonderfully and it seem so are you.

Maddie will be just fine and will get better and better with time. She loves you so much, you can see that. I know you love her too.

I know you don''t want to put her down, she has to much love to give to you and you to her.

Linda

LC, Please do not put Maddie down. Please believe me when I say, she will recover. You will be so surprised just how fast our beloved pets recover.

I was so surprised at our fast our Lhasa Mazie recovered. In just 2 weeks she acted like nothing ever happened to her. I know Maddie will do the same thing. I know this is very hard on you and your husband right now and she does face more surgeries.

You stated she is as perky as she always is. You can bet she will be that way after her following surgeries. She loves you and we know you both love her. Please let her live. Please do not put her down, just because she faces more surgeries. She WILL survive them believe me.

DITTO Linda.

Also it sounds as if she is doing well, time is a great physical healer so hang in there with her, every day healing is taking place on the inside also even if you can't see it! No need to consider putting her down IMO, it sounds as if she has an excellent chance of making a great recovery, and to have a wonderful quality of life as she used to.

Sending prayers and wishes for Maddie''s recovery.

Mazie recovered so quickly considering what happened, and I have no doubt your baby will recover soon too. So glad she looks better today! Great news!

Hang in there LC!! Sending more healing dust and ((((hugs)))

Well, I got her picture from day 13 taken, and WOW. What a difference! It''s still gross, but I cannot believe how much better it looks!

We took a walk today, and she enjoyed every minute of it. Also, the only thing that made me cry today was when the neighborhood children brought Maddie a get well card with a few coins they collected for her medical bills. They call their club the "what if" club. Maddie always growls and barks at them when they''re playing outside, but they still brought her a card. Awwwww!

Day 16...

Just a quick update on Maddie...

She continues to amaze me with her recovery. She is getting more and more like herself everyday. Unfortunately, that includes growling at me when I make her get out of bed in the morning, but that''s my girl! Also, she''s becoming more and more frisky, which means she''s gotten her wound to bleeding a couple of times. The doc says that''s okay -- better for it to bleed than no blood supply at all.

Mommy is doing better, too. My mind has cleared up, and I''ve been able to think about things in a different light. I have a list of questions to ask the vet when she goes in for a check up on Monday afternoon.

Again, I cannot thank you all for your prayers, dust, and encouraging words over the past week.

So glad to hear she''s doing better! I just saw this thread for the first time and was about to beg you not to put her down, but I see that you''ve calmed down a bit. It does seem as though she''s recovering better than you are!

So glad to hear this most recent update that your precious baby is healing up well - animals really are astonishingly resilient.

So happy to hear sweet Maddie is getting back to her old self. She''s lucky to have you as her Mommy!!!

Update --

We just got back from the vet''s office, and we have promising news! She is healing very well, and he was especially excited to see loose/sagging skin under her chin. Apparently, he pulled the skin as tight as it could go when he stitched her up. Now, it has stretched. He believes that he will be able to stretch that skin over her wound; thus, avoiding skin grafts. It might take a couple of surgeries to do it, but it really makes me optimistic.

Obviously, he can''t promise me anything, but thank goodness for her stretchy skin!!!

Oh LC - that is wonderful news!! I''m so glad to hear of little Maddie''s wonderful medical visit, and fingers crossed for her to avoid skin grafts. What an amazingly resilient little beastie you have there
