Ana,

What a memory. How do you remember where you saw everything?

Ana: You expressed that so perfectly - they are "fresh".
The size is just over 3ct each.

movie zombie: I have seen some thing similar in a cushion cut. I am sure a round would work too. The side view of the basket is my favourite bit!

Talk about breathtaking!!! It really is too bad you''ve decided to keep them--I am SO envious!!! I''m with you in thinking the lighter green is better. It''s such a gorgeous color! More pics please!!!

yummmmm..... Those are great earrings -- beautiful stones in beautiful settings! I'd love to see an ear shot from the front.

Oh my gosh--they are amazing.

The platinum setting really sets off those "Irish Spring" emeralds--really breathtaking.

Hey, does anyone look at your face these days when they talk to you, becasue I know I''d have a hard time not staring at your ears!

Hi Researcher
It was love at first sight when I first bought them. I had gone to pick up a couple of pearls as a 15th anniversary present 10 years ago and my supplier pulled them out of his safe to tempt me. It just goes to show this sales technique works. They were just irresistable! I agonized for a couple of weeks before buying them. It is fantastic being able to get lots of use out of them.

I don’t need much encouragement to post more photos – Phillip sent me lots! This is another back view of them together:

For LOP: a front view of the other earring.
The colour is not so light when the sun is not shining through the stone. Their colour varies quite a bit with lighting and what I am wearing.

Ignore the beetroot red ear lobe, I had been rushing to get in to collect them and I didn''t have time to wait for them to get back to normal!

Hi Jenn
They are usually staring at my new ring actually! It is quite amusing seeing someones gaze going down to my ring finger constantly while they are talking to me. I wear very little jewellery and prefer nothing elaborate, so it is currently quite disconcerting. How do people respond to yours? Your ring looks stunning and combined with that tennis bracelet I have coveted for a while it must be blinding!

What great earrings -- thanks for the extra pics! I''m thinking I may have to get some this style. The only question is what kind of stones, and how big do they need to be to look big enough....

I think 5mm would be a good cut off point. Otherwise there is much less reason for the extra enpense as a more conventional casting would have as much affect. It is not really a design that lends itself to casting. Well, not in plat given the fact plat doesn''t oxidise when it is soldered so the advantage of pre-polished wires can''t be equalled by a casting where the wires which will have casting marks that have to be cleaned off and never look perfect.

The picture Ana showed us is made differently. One way to make it is to start with U shapes (see earlier photos) and join them, the other is to solder the wires and then bend them. The later is the more conventional approach as it is a widely used technique in other types of jewellery. It is a matter of technique so you might want to bring both photos to your jeweller.

For me, as far as size is concerned etc. It is easier if you buy the stones you love and then to design for weight, strength, etc accordingly.

Beautiful earring..the setting will really show them off!!!

HI:

What is an earlobe, when the thing hanging from it is so mesmerising? Thanks for posting more pics so that your earrings may be enjoyed here again and again. Goodness knows, I love Emeralds......

cheers--Sharon

Anyway, on a more important topic, your earrings have passed all my tests so far with flying colours. They have had the "sleep overnight test" and the "jumper over the head test" and the "towel on my head after a shower test". They are brilliantly comfortable to wear and stay put very well.
now those are some earrings!! i think i need a pair!!

hehehe.....i''m sure there will be many more, perhaps unintentional, tests for your new dangles!
20.gif

They will eventually fail a test if you try hard enough

Any suggestions to try?

lol....i think you will stumble upon your own little tests!

eta: i say that with much affection!!

I''m going to admit something here...I''m not a fan of emeralds.

I don''t like the deep green color, I don''t like the inclusions. But your stones are DROP. DEAD. G

US. Just STUNNING. These are emeralds I would love!!!!!! I love the lighter color, I love everything about them. And I haven''t even started gushing over the setting.

The earrings are just DIVINE...the leverback and clasp, the prong setting...just amazing. These are earrings even I, a self proclaimed emerald non-enthusiast, just LOVE!!!

I am glad they passed your tests

Hi Firegoddess
I just loved your comments. My husband had been saying why on earth didn''t someone just "come out " and say they disliked emeralds (his sentiments are reflected in your first couple of sentences). I had to read him your post twice!
11.gif

He has come around a bit since they were reset and even went so far as to say they looked "good", which is about the highest accolade he gives to any jewellery item.

I must say I had never considered emeralds before either, but fell I love with these when I saw them a decade ago. Unlike my fussiness with diamond inclusions, the ones in these don''t bother me at all - it just makes them seem more "real".

Platinumsmith: The earrings have passed the "bike helmet" test too. We have just returned from a ride down to our favourite cafe on the beach. I usually have to continually check if earrings are secure whenever I want to wear a pair. This is a great design and so simple that it works well with jeans too. You fulfilled your brief very well!

Irish eyes, LOP, Sharon & Belle - thanks for all your comments.

Irish eyes, I have just seen a photos of your gorgeous auburn hair - just the colour emeralds need to really set them off!

It''s interesting to hear that you purchased the emerald stones many years ago and just now had them placed in these perfect pieces of jewelry! It does seem that the appearance of emeralds can be so individual (their specific colors and saturation, placement and amount of inclusions), if you find ones that you fall in love with(and can afford) it''s best to go ahead and get them! They will find the perfect home eventually. I wouldn''t think that the stones you have (especially matched in that size!) come around too often.

Thanks again for sharing.

asblackrock, those emeralds are the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Now people will have to fight the gravity between your finger & ring and ears & stunning emeralds!

People do look at my rings also. it's nice. I will admit I enjoy it and am always very appreciative when I get compliments.Thank you for yours! Enjoy your fabulous jewelry

Wow! Those are terrific.
What an awesome setting.
They look so lovely.

Hi part gypsy
I had them set initially in 18ct gold with rose and white gold accents on the main clasp from which they dangled in a bezel setting. It was an unusual, more formal setting using a lot of gold and they were heavy and uncomfotable to wear for any more than a couple of hours. I would breathe a sigh of relief whenever I took them off.
8.gif
Vanity (and the expense of resetting) made me put up with this! LOL

A few things prompted me to alter the setting:
1. My new ring was in platinum and I wanted something to match
2. I wanted a less formal setting I could wear more often
3. I saw Platinumsmith's workmanship in Jadeleaves' lovely ring
4. I hoped for something more comfortable (note this still comes last!
9.gif
)

I am just thrilled with the result. Thanks Phil

Phil - you must be getting a swollen head with all the compliments!

Jenn and Sevens one - thanks for your posts

No way Angela,

It was a combined project and hell, as usual, the stones helped, but I love it all the same

At the risk of starting a riot, I have to say that I think those of us who love colored gemstones have far superior taste to those who love diamonds. I mean, geez, diamonds are all the same, clear, more clear, not so clear
27.gif
So now I''m gonna run for cover...........
hehehehe....matata..that''s what i was thinking!! looooove those colors!

(where''s the hideout!!?)

I agree... any room under cover there for me?
