Looks like a beautiful rings!! Congrats!!! Really hope to see more pictures!

My camera is a sony cyber shot I believe, yet there is no flower symbol and I couldn't figure out what setting was best at ALL. I am an idiot, I appreciate any advice.

Stats: 1.50 carat pear brilliant....G, I1. Cut I believe to be 1A based on the #s I plugged into the fancy chart. I think the diam is 9.74x6.67x3.38. The band is 4mm.

I will tell you the size is a 5 now and is wayyy too big so getting resized tomorrow, so I will guess on a size 4.5 finger.

I hope to get some good focused close ups for ya'll to see but I tell you what, I can see NOTHING but sparkle and whiteness in this stone....to my eyes I truly feel as of right now that I have found an eye-clean I1. I want you all to be the judge when you see better photos. The defect is a large feather off to the side which I remember when I saw this stone at a reputable B&M was CLEARLY visible under the loupe...but I see nothing now! No black inclusions or anything, under the loupe and on the GIA chart there is really nothing besides this one big feather.

Thanks for all the lovely compliments. I could not wait for this day. I will tinker around with that camera tonite!!

Congratulations! Beautiful ring!

You are not an idiot for not being able to figure out how to do it. They seldom make it easy. Without knowing which model you have, I can't help too much - there are dozens of Cyber-Shot's. If you have a newer one, there likely is no flower icon/macro mode. Some are touch screen where you have to hunt for stuff and others have buttons where you would typically just look for the flower icon. Here's a description about a newer model and why you may not see an icon:

Macro

The T300 is one of the first cameras to apply Sony's latest approach to Macro, which provides access to macro focusing at all times. Basically, the standard focusing mode will attempt to focus in the close-up range if it fails to find anything in its normal focusing range first. Conversely, if it doesn't find any nearby objects to focus on while in macro mode, it will then hunt through the normal focus range. Finally there's a super-close-up that is really quite impressive. With a minimum focusing distance of 1cm You can pretty much press the camera up to an object and it'll still manage to focus and deliver a 20 x 15mm area.

Focusing can be tough... only a very, very small area will be in focus in a close-up so by holding a camera and taking a picture of your hand (with both camera and hand with ring moving ever so slightly) it will be tough to get a good picture. If doing a hand shot, rest your hand on a table, the arm of a chair or sofa, countertop...something solid. Play with the camera to find out how close it will focus and take a bunch of pictures - they can be deleted, go crazy. Then, go through and weed out the bad ones. Make sense?

Oh... and great looking ring. Congratulations on your engagement!

ok guys, i did it! thanks so much for the help. there WAS a flower icon

i took these in the bright sunlight which with the high def macro settings made the feather quite noticeable...which was then definitely detectable to the eye up close but really only in that bright outdoor light. indoors it is reeeally difficult to find even knowing just where it is. i want to share these photos to give a good portrayal of I1s though for people who may be considering them in order to save some $$$!!
