Scintillating ..
As an ex-NYC/Brooklyn dweller for 10 years once, 4 years another time ... just wanted to echo others'' calls for ya to RELAX. I actually thought the shirt pocket idea was a good one, because if by some amazing confluence of bad luck & bad timing you happened to be mugged while carrying your stone ... NOONE would think to take a hankie out of your shirt pocket. They might get your purse/wallet/watch/necklace/Ipod or whatever else ... but that precious ROCK would be safe. I think the gal who suggested that was prudent & clever, not trying to be disrespectful of you or your stone ...

I never had any kind of problem in all my time in NYC, and still work there often going via train & subway etc.

Safe trip & can''t wait to hear about the meeting & see the final product!

my best friend has lived in the city for 7 years or so and never had one single problem. i''ve been there several times myself and always felt safe. The shirt pocket or even wrapped up inside your bra would be a great transporting place

Thanks for the support everybody!
I sent off the stone via USPS registered (etc.) mail today.
I kept having visions of losing it.
I just knew I'd be constantly checking on it, and fidgeting, so I'd be better off just shipping it.
It was amazingly cheap! So cheap I thought something must be wrong. (less than $30 with the insurance.)

I'm not really afraid of NYC, I'm afraid of what I don't know, and places I don't know well.
Boston has become A LOT less safe than it was when I was a teen - so I guess I just assumed NYC would be the same. A couple months ago a friend who waitered at a nice downtown steakhouse in Boston was followed from work, mugged, beaten, and left unconscious. I'd never heard of this happening in Boston - so I guess I'm just a lot more cautious lately in general.

Thank you again guys!
I can't wait to report on going to Leon's showroom.
Yeay - I can stop worrying and get excited now!

Scintillating...

well. good for you. I just shipped a ring registared mail last week and it only took 3 days. Pretty good in my book. Hopefully it will make it on friday and be there waiting for you. If not, you know Leon will get it soon enough and you''ll still get to enjoy seeing his place and meeting him in person..

Congratulations on your decision.

Now all you have to worry about is how you will get the finished ring once Leon is done making it.
Will he mail it or will you pick it up?

By the way, I live in NY and have worn my e-ring and bands on the NYC subway trains. I just turn my ring around so it looks like a band or stick it in my pocket right before I take the train. Works like a charm!

ETA- When Leon made my ring, I took the train to see him and took the train after picking it up. It beats driving in traffic and looking for parking!

You have nothing to be worried about in NYC! Be calm and relax - then you''ll blend in. CONGRATS and enjoy!

I''m glad you made your decision. New York is actually quite safe nowadays, so enjoy the city-it''s great! and Congrats!
