Phuh! I have been dissassembling the designs that have 7 sides and done with gears that do not divide evenly by 7... Some interesting stuff there. I think the center points fall a little off center and then you cut a meet in on the pavillion. And there are a few designs with a 98 and 56 index gear. Never seen one of those on any of the current faceting machines for sale in the US.

Without the right index gear, it is a little tough to make the meets. Jambpeg? But the original is soo neat. If it were me, I would bypass it soley because of the no return policy. But is that your dealers policy or who he/she is getting it from?

Hi all! thanks to the replies! yes its the dealer''s policy, she did not disclose her source to me. One more thing! Can I know why does the orange zircon appears ''sleepy'' comparing to the almandine which seems much sharper?

"Sleepy" usually comes from fine silt. Rose quartz does this alot.

The orange zircon is by far the more unusual stone and would be my choice :)

ditto - I actually love the sleepiness

is it usual for zircon to have silk? cos all the zircon that I came by seems to be crystal clear? the silk inclusion seems to have lowered the dispersion, does it? I would much prefer a crisp, sharp look to it.

Same picture same stone now on ebay for 40% less and with 14 day return policy

Dang good eye, vapid..i am impressed...well done!!!
here see if this links http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370357879408&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

So your jeweler, chicomoto..was going to buy this stone off ebay and turn around and sell it to you for a $165 profit..hmmm..sounds like the ole middleman routine...from a stone on ebay..hmm..if i was you I would switch jewelers..how about picking up someone like Gene, Roger, Lisa, or Peter who actually fly over to where the rough is....inspect it..buy it... hop on a plane from some godforsaken country and come back..cut the stones themselves..take their own pics..and sell the stones..thats the way it's done..seems a little more appropriate than copying a pic off ebay and trying to sell it before it's in hand....your jeweler is pulling the wool over your eyes.....lol.......granted I have bought things off ebay and sold them afterwards..but that was AFTER I had the stones or rocks in hand...lololol...lol..not copy a pic..send it to whoever and see if they want to buy it...then i buy it if they say yes...lolol..lolololololo..sorry

also..quick side note for those who don''t know..since original post had no return and this person has 14 days..pay no attention to any return policy you see on ebay..does not matter..one bit..7 days..14 days..doesn''t matter..ebay gives you 45 days..regardless of what seller has..period..oh..and it''s paypal that controls it all and they give 45 days also..so keep that in mind ebay shoppers..whatever seller can say anything..you email 42 days after payment and say i want a return..and they say "well we only have a 14 day return policy"..nope..does not matter..45 days return policy on ebay

BTW, I checked out http://www.osirisgems.com/index

the guy has skillz though I still think the stone looks to be a little light (looks a bit glamorshotish to me)

So I looked at his other stuff...

mmmmm

Thank you so much for the useful info! Otherwise I would never know.. That is a rather high markup! I have decided that this is the last straw. I will not go back to this person again! Thank you guys once again, i will go direct to ebay should I wanna make this purchase, at a much lower price this time and not to mention the return policy. I sincerely appreciate the help

from the seller of that orange zircon
"this design is a very fresh one. I designed around 6 or 8 weeks ago and this is on my website and ebay-shop for maybe 5 weeks"

Markups are typically twice as much on a gem like that. I know a guy that gets almost all his gems and jewelry from ebay and marks it up at least twice as high on his website. Since the prices he gets it at are low, his prices seem reasonable too. Nothing wrong with that on a nice gem that's already very reasonably priced, I guess that's how people make money. I just have a problem with the no return policy.

Well, at least now you know where to get it for much less $$$, so that's good news. . . and a return policy too!!

yea..nothing wrong with that..the thing that i don''t like is the the guy who wanted to sell to chicomoto hadn''t even bought the stone yet..just copied a pic and said.."here like this one"

Believe it or not, that's rather common too.

I can understand a vendor buying from eBay and charging a markup for resale, as this seems to be common. What I disagree with is that the jeweller has NOT even purchased the stone yet, yet is selling as though he already owns it and refuses refunds on top of that?

I don''t agree with that either, but it happens all the time. As an avid ebayer, I see these things quite a bit unfortunately. The no-refund part just makes me steaming mad though.

The no return part was the original outrage and for me continues to be the biggest insult. In fairness though, we do not know how the seller was sourcing the stone. Just because I found it listed on ebay from the similarity of the photograph of delayed''s opal does not mean that the would be seller was sourcing it from there too. The cutter has the stone listed both on his own website and ebay. It is possible that the would be seller has sourced from this cutter before and was intent on doing so again.

I chit chatted with Uli all afternoon yesterday..he even said thats so wrong on many levels..he said any of his customers can return at any time..you have to put in a time limit on ebay ie. 7 days or 14 days or what have you but he said he stands by his work and if a customer is not happy he will accept a return in a respectable amount of time..whether it be 10 days or 40 days..actually a very cool person..he knows quite a lot i can tell..was explaining many a things to me..seemed def. on the up and up

I have seen Uli's pictures and visited her site before. She has also cut Yin-Yang before in amethyst as someone asked me if I could cut it and sent me a link to her site. Her photos are some of the best I have ever seen (those and Jeff Hunt's).

Uli should be a safe bet.

Uli is a guy gsells.... He has no idea who this "jeweler" is that chicomoto posted about in OP..his photos are good..he..oh what did he tell me..has a degree or something in photography from some university or something in Munich(sorry uli if your reading this i am ptrobably butchering it..lol)..don't remember exactly but something along those lines

You are right. I saw someone else''s correction and I was thinking I was wrong.
