FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yellow

Hi, dear colored Stones experts!

I saw this Stone on Leibish Website and felt in love with ist Color! I would love love to set this Little sunshine as a simple bezel pendant. My concern is clarity..its I2. The clouds etc. dont bother me, but I have concern is that feather (crack  ) right in the middle of the table can damage the stone either while Setting or in the future. What do you think? is it ok, or shall I pass.
I like the healthy size (4.8mm Diameter), pretty Color and Price (just a bit over of $1200). I also read that the rounds in vivid Color are very rare and clarity is not that important in FCDs as in colorless Diamonds.

I have the Diamond on hold till Monday and would appreciate your honest opinion.

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

My gut feel says that you should be fine but just in case, why not ask Leibish if this stone can be safely bezeled?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

The sales rep reassured it will be fine and that they will be taking rensponsibility for the Setting results. I am still waiting for the Quote for the simple bezel Setting from them. If it is too much, I would like to get BGD to set it in their Barbara Setting. In this case the rensponsibility will be on me, of course..Hmmm. .

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Correct; should Leibish set this FCD for you, they are taking full responsibility for the stone. If you go elsewhere, you assume the full risk.

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Thank you very much, Chrono! As for the setting, do you think this diamond required closed back bezel or open bezel ala Tiffany DBTY is fine?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Either or is your choice. The colouration is good enough to handle both a collet set bezel or tube bezel with an airline. I would not do a fully enclosed bezel (back is closed) to allow for cleaning. You are choosing to go with a yellow metal, right?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Yes, I am thinking 18k yellow gold.

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

The more I look at that stone the more I see green/grey... Chrono, am I completely out of my mind?

ETA: I have a 22k ring that's alloyed with silver, instead of copper like 22k is traditionally alloyed with in Asia. To my eyes the colour of this diamond matches the 22k/Ag ring's colour perfectly - it's an odd combination orange, yellow, and green all at the same time...?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

I am a clarity snob.
Unlike the majority of PS members I am happy to pay much more for VVS diamonds when available.
I personally try to avoid feathers, if possible.

When they say clarity matters less for FCDs it means low clarity lowers the price of an FCD less than it would in a white diamond.
It does not mean major feathers affect the mechanical stability of an FCD less than the same feather would in a white diamond.
There is nothing about a color in a diamond that makes it magically stronger.
One fact that is comforting and oft-repeated is if a diamond survived the heat and stress of the polishing wheel it (and setting) should hold up to normal wear and tear.
But yes, definitely have Leibish put it in a full-bezel setting, which is the most protective setting.
It's good it's going into a pendant, which gets banged around less than a ring.

Here's why I can overlook low clarity in FCDs ...
I'm an FCD collector. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/fancy-colored-diamond-collection.159746/
I've bought 20 and kept 12.
FCDs are very rare and the selection is tiny compared to white diamonds.
The perfect FCD that meets all of my criteria will never float down the river of life.
You compromise and take what you can get.

Some of mine have poor cut or clarity, but I love them for their COLOR!
With FCDs color is king, so if you love that color grab it.
A round of that size, color, and price is not likely to show up any time soon.

It looks "dirty" in that one picture but then again, that picture is also greatly magnified. Squash it down to its real size and I doubt it looks as gray.

Hi, Yssie! Thank you for coming in! Yes,yes, now I definately see that stone in rich 22K yellow gold :lickout: thank you for your great tip, I will inquire Leibish if they can do that

I agree with some "dirty" effect on that one picture, however, on video it looks like perfect splash of fanta color to me. THIS color really grabbed my attention and made my initial planning for DBTY bracelet for my BD fade.

If you end up sending it to Brian Gavin for setting I'd send him a link to the GIA report ASAP.
He may want to see the diamond in person before responding.

Time is of the essence but fortunately Leibish has a 30-day return policy so you can return the diamond for a refund if Brian declines the job.

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

It looks to be a nicely saturated yellow diamond with good spread and great price. Interesting to me that the color looks different in the video than the still photos. In the video I see the greenish hue that Yssie refers to, but don't really see it in the regular photos. Since it doesn't have fluorescence (which may have turned it greenish), and GIA doesn't mention a green modifier- I'm guessing maybe it's just the lighting they used in the video. The only other thing I noticed is it looked slightly opaque from the side view- but I could overlook a lot if it's a color I loved at a great price!! I guess I'd still want to see it in person prior to having it set to make sure I was happy with it unless Leibish is willing to set it with the understanding you could return it if you didn't like it. I kind of doubt they'd do that, but never hurts to ask-kwim?

Hi, Kenny, thank you so much for commenting! I admire your FCD collection and have visited your thread like 50 times

This is definately not a serious collector stone, like youself, due to its low clarity. But My plan is to set it in a pendant and just enjoy the splash of color. I like this color very much but I doubt I can afford similar stone with higher clarity. What is your comment on color? Do you also see some grey, like Yssi?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

There's a video? I must have missed it so I'll go look now.

Good point! Will write BGD an email if they can do the job. What is your experience with returns to Leibish? I see that they offer free shipping, but what about returnes? Do they issue the label or the buyer needs to take care himself? Who bears the costs?

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

You pay for return shipping, but it goes to a New York address

I do agree with seeing it in-person before it's set.

Hi, PJ! Do you know what made me surf Leibish and as a result becoming obsessed with this Fanta stone? Your dream Orchidee ring! I was so impressed to see your ring that wanted to see some other colored diamonds, just to check..nothing in mind :naughty: and now here I am waffling about what to do..

I think the stone has so kany inclusions, like feather and clouds that there is some opaquness in so,e spots, I can see it very clearly from the video, BUT as you say I am able to oversee it due to the color. Unfortunately to see the stone prior setting is not an option for me, so I would need to live with it if I decided to go with this stone.

I have returned 8 FCDs to Leibish.
Back then they had an agent in NY I returned them to (Leibish is in Israel).
Ask them if they still have this.

Shipping to NY was of course much cheaper than shipping to Israel.
IIRC I had to pay for the return shipping.
The refund was via wire since I paid by wire,
If you pay by CC the refund would be to your CC.

There was never any questions or argument or delay from Leibish with the returns.
The return process was quick, painless and truly no-questions-asked.
They understand color is personal and you can't really decide till you see your FCD in person.

haha- welcome to the FCD fanatic club!!!! I'll warn you, though, they are like potato chips- you can't have just one. :naughty:

Leibish really gives very honest answers, so if they say the diamond performs well, I would believe them. It would make a beautiful pendant- a ray of sunshine for the summer. :D

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Kenny, thank you for the shipping info!

PJ, noooo, may be I should stop right now with FCD purchase then. There is a voice in my head "you need it, buy it, buy it" it must be Enerchi.. :Up_to_something: :twirl:

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

Given that the return shipping is to NY, are you able to see the FCD in person prior to being set? That is the best way to evaluate if it is the right one for you. Yes, they are like potato chips other than the fact that they are smaller and 9999999999999999999% more expensive.

I am in Germany, so as with all my diamond projects I have only "one way ticket" with that one as well. I do trust BGD and their opinion and setting quality, so if I purchase this liitle stone, I hope they wont decline it. Its perfect that the vendor return adress is NY. BGD couod ship it back with no problems..

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! It looks like a little golden drop of sunshine to me!

Re: FCD Experts, need your opinion re this Vivid Orange Yell

I love this stone and love the color. Because of the size, I really don't think the clarity will be an issue. To me the color is everything. I think it will be a stone you can see across the room!
