Thank you so much for your responses, they have helped me a lot. I went round to my parents for tea last night and it was really strange not seeing Shadow when they opened the door. We had tea and my mum was reminding us of all the nice things we had done with Shadow and we were laughing at some of the things that had happened and it was really nice....... and then I saw his collar on the side. It upset me so much I felt myself starting to cry so just pretended I needed to go and blow my nose and left the table. I didn''t want to upset anyone but it was so horrible to see it just lying there.

Later on I was on the internet and was looking at some puppies, my mum and dad were both saying how nice they were. This morning my mum rang to say that she doesn''t think they can cope with no dog in the house and she had been looking at some labrador breeders. My dad is worried that we will, never find one like Shadow but I think that''s a good thing. I don''t want one the same as Shadow, I could never find one like him. i''m just hoping that another puppy could fill the void that he has left.

Chocolatefudge I am sure your pup has gone into a wonderous place with loads of new people to love and be loved. You probably won''t ever have another Shadow but what you will have is another dog that you will love as much and giggle and play with in a different way and he or she will be just as much a part of the family

Hopefully a new addition will help you and your folks to fill the void

Sweetie I can''t tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My heart aches for you, I have lost pets over the years and it still hasn''t stopped hurting. I hope you can find a new love for a new puppy - you can never replace a pet, but I really think it does help the grief. Just having another soft head to pat and furry tummy to rub has its own healing properties, or so has been my experience. Shadow was lucky to have lived such a live surrounded by people who clearly adored him, I bet wherever he is, he is one happy pooch! Please take care xo

Hi Everyone,
Well we are having a puppy! I called to see my mum and dad on Saturday and my dad had found someone with a litter of labrador puppies. We all went to look at them and chose the biggest fattest one! He''s gorgeous He''s a bigger build than Shadow but soooooo lovely. At first I was feeling guilty about ''replacing'' Shadow too soon but now I''m really excited. He''s six weeks old and we''re picking him up in three weeks.

Oh I am so happy to hear that! And don''t think about it as replacing Shadow, because you can never replace a beloved pet, think of it as expanding your heart for new love and experiences from this pet.

Awww, congratulations on your new puppy! I would never think you were replacing your very beloved Shadow...but your family clearly loves your doggies and what better home for a young pup? You aren''t replacing, you''re just finding someone to share all that pet love with now that Shadow is safely over the rainbow. Make sure you put up some pics of that cute little bugger!
