Got home, cut them apart, put them on and walked brisky down my hall. Hmmm, what''s that sound?? Turned around and did it again. The band on the left shoe was rubbing against my foot, and sounded like I was passing gas every time I took a step. EVERY time.

Ellen, I personally am wearing jeans on this little adventure (unles it's SUPER hot, in which case I'm wearing a bikini. NOT.). Seriously, don't get dressed up at all. Wear whatever makes you happy. I figure if they can take my money when I'm dressed up they can take my money when I'm not.

As for restaurants, I looked at the location of your hotel and it really couldn't be better for just about anything you're in the mood for. Do you have any ideas in mind? I'll be happy to steer you toward a few places if you know what kind of food you want.
DeeJay, I came back here looking for the names of the pizza places and saw this post, which I missed the first time. Sorry, wasn't ignoring you!

Hubby wants a good Italian place if there is one.

Also, I know we can't know for sure, but what is the temp generally like that time of year?

Hi Ellen,

Two great Italian places in Chicago are Follia and ''Merlo on Maple''. Both have EXCELLENT food and great decor and top service, but Follia has a modern up to the minute feel (and is better for authentic Italian pizzas) and Merlo is housed in a beautiful old mansion and is very cosy.

You should be able to find them through google... ?

Have fun!

IG, thanks! I found their sites and have bookmarked them.

Ellen, I second the idea of Merlo on Maple. The HH doesn''t like it, but I had one of the best meals of my life there on a new year''s eve!

The temp *should* be in the 60s/70s. On the low end it should be jeans with a light sweater, on the high end it should be light pants and a T-shirt. But that''s not to say it won''t be 100 degrees--or snowing!!!

And if you listed to the weather report and it says the temp will be X degrees, knock several off because it''s always a bit cooler by the lake (which we will be only a few blocks from) and sometimes a little breezy too.

LOL!!

Thanks, that really does help. And I figured it would be breezy.

A little breezy? A LITTLE breezy?!? I was twice literally BLOWN OFF the sidewalk around Michigan and Oak! Once into oncoming traffic!

Mind you, I''m wee. And it''s not like that bad every day of course.

Living in Chicago, I found it funny when people would claim completely SERIOUSLY that it was called the ''Windy City'' because of the politicians and not the wind. People actually believe this! OK, so there are some windy politicians, but it seems the more obvious explanation would be that it''s called the Windy City because... IT''S REALLY FREAKING WINDY!

BTW, if you end up at Merlo on Maple, the artichoke tart is CRAZY good, and their gnocchi with truffles is yummo also.

LOL IG, it *is* windy!

And what is that rolled up pasta dish at Merlo with the vodka cream sauce on top? I can't think of what it's called right now, but Mm Mm Mm!!!

OK, that cracked me up.

Well, not the part where you got blown into oncoming traffic.

And you guys are seriously making my mouth water! MoM piqued my curiosity more out of the two, so with your mouth watering suggestions, we may just have to hit it up.
