Finger size question

Hi Everyone,

I finally got to try on my ring and I love it! For those of you interested, it is a platinum setting, size 5 3/4, diamond is 1.21, H, VS1, ideal cut. I was going for a Tiffany solitaire style setting, and it ended up being a bit different. At first I was disappointed, but now I've gotten used to it and think I like it more because it's more original and "mine."

My issue is about the finger size. I was nervous about my ring size, because several different jewelers said different sizes. I thought it could either be differences in how they were measuring or changes in my fingers. I do think my fingers fluctuate depending on the weather/my diet/etc. One said 5 1/2-6, one said 6ish, and a third said 5 1/2 definitely. I decided to go with 5 3/4 but I'm unhappy with how it feels and looks on my hand. I know part of it is that I'm not used to the snugger fit the ring should have (i.e. I've always worn cheap jewelry and not worried about the size, and this ring is heavier a la diamond, metal etc.) I'm also going to wait a couple of weeks to see how it feels over time. But, I am feeling pretty confident that I'm going to have to resize up. Since I got it wrong the first time, I'm worried that I'll do it again. I was hoping someone might have an opinion about how much they would size up given how it looks in the pictures. I realize this is a stretch of a question...but this forum has been so helpful in the past...thought I would give it a try. I'm leaning towards going up just a smidge...maybe to a 6. But, I'm wondering if that is too small of an increase. I really don't like if it looks like it's squeezing my skin. But, I also am in the process of losing weight and so I suppose my fingers might slim up. I should add that it COULD be that I put on some weight since I was sized...so maybe that is also the issue.

I'm sorry for the stream of consciousness. Opinions? I really appreciate anyone who humors my obsession. I know one pic is blurry, but I thought it highlighted the effect on my finger!

I'm like you - can't stand the feel of a too-tight ring, though it doesn't *look* bad in the pics. I would have it sized up - depending on where you live it's pretty cold right now, the ring will be tighter come summer. You might want to go a tad too loose, actually, if you're planning on wearing a significantly wide wedding band as well :))

Very pretty ring! I love solitaires. I also don't like rings that are too snug; I'd much rather they be a bit loose than fit too tight. From the photos I actually could not tell the ring is too tight for you, but if it is at all uncomfortable I would definitely size it up. But maybe just to a 6? I'm in the opposite situation - my Tiffany-style solitaire engagement ring is about 1/4 size too loose - just loose enough it spins around unless I trap it between a slim band and my wider wedding band. So far this suits me, but I am almost to the point of getting it sized down because, if it didn't spin, I'd like to wear it sometimes above the wedding band and without the spacer.

Maybe you could find a ring that fits you perfectly on that finger (look through your jewelry box or pick up an inexpensive silver ring of similar width) - then give that ring to the benchman so he can size up your engagement ring to match it? Let us know what you decide to do, and I'd love to see more pics of your lovely ring!

WOW! That thing is gorgeous!

As for the sizing, have you looked into sizing beads?

We ended up going that route for my fiance's ring. She loves them! The ring is always secure on her finger put it's not too tight/snug. Since you are in the process of losing some weight, you can always have the sizing bead size changed as needed. That way you don't have to cut your ring.

Do a search in the forum for sizing beads, there are many threads about them.

I've attached a pic so you can see the inside of her ring (it's not the best quality but will give you an idea).

Also, I think it is wise you are giving it a couple of weeks to see how it feels over time.

I love you ring! Pretty and classic, just my style.

My ring size fluctuates from Winter to Summer. I can not stand to have a ring be snug on me. So my goal is for when I take the ring off I have to twist it a few times to go over my knuckle. It is loose around my finger though, sometimes the ring spins, you know like the diamond doesn't sit on top like it is supposed to...I think that tends to happen with the larger sized diamonds more so than with the smaller ones though. I wonder if those little balls for sizing (great idea by the way) would help with that, if you decide to go a little larger on the ring size?

My ring size is about 5 1/4 but I wear a 5 3/4 because I like my ering little loose, and once I add stacking bands it gets tight quick. I think a half size difference makes a fairly substantial difference in how a ring fits. You just don't want to go so big that it could fall off your finger.
