Hello my husband and I upgrated my ring for our 5th anniversary and I am feeling uncertain weather or not we should keep it. The diamond 20221229_211830.jpgis a gia 1.51 G color VS2 Clarity 3x but it does on the other hand have strong blue florecence. In 80 of lighting I love the stone but in the 20 percent (diffused lighting indoors from outside) it looks opal or bright white and no longer transparent.. is this because of the florecence? Or do all diamonds look like this all advice appreciate
I attached different lighting photos, the first photo best shows what I don't like.

Congrats!! It's beautiful. I know this is different, but hope it helps a little.. I have a round brilliant, 2.05 carats. It's GIA certified, excellent cut, E color SI2. All the other specs are very good, girdle, polish etc.. However it does have MEDIUM yellow fluorescence. I do not have any problem whatsoever, it shines very bright in any lighting.. Zero milky look, or opal look. Hope this helps, good luck!

Congrats on your upgrade! Do you mind sharing any other info you have about the stone (cut details, certificate, etc)? That might help us to figure out what part of your stone is bugging you

Gia# 7458015191
We're you able to see the photos as well?
What are your thoughts on them?

Sorry I should also add, I haven't seen any yellow tint or anything other than the white sparkle of the diamond.. (since my fluorescence is yellow, not blue..)

Thank you!
Do these photos of mine Look normal to you in that case or is that milkyness I am seeing here? 20221231_121528.jpg20221229_211830.jpg

I definitely see the milkyness in your second pic.. I'm not a diamond expert, but I would look into it, if it is bothering you!!! I have not seen that with mine, I would look into the certificate more (maybe??) to see why

It's a gia certified diamond and in the cert it doesn't mention anything other than the strong blue florecence. It suxks because it only is very specific lighting who brings it out and everywhere else it blows me away which makes it a supper difficult decision

That can be frustrating, I see your point!! That's good though that 80% of the time, it shines bright and makes you happy, that's all that matters. And I have heard that blue fluorescence is preffered over yellow fluorescence

We're still within the return period so I have to decide if it's a make or break though. I feel like the right stone I shouldn't have to question so much but on the other hand I'm so unexperienced that I'm not sure if any stone will have its moments of looking poor in certain lighting?..
I'm also a perfectionist so when it looks all whited out it really bothers me but then I question also weather I can do so much better in our price range as well and if that's maybe just a reality i need to accept..
Thanks for your opinions!

I found this GIA article to be interesting:
“We observed that stronger fluorescence produces some contrast loss in gem diamonds. However, our results show that this contrast loss from strong fluorescence does not by itself cause the milky or hazy appearance observed in some diamonds by the trade. Atomic-scale defects in the diamond structure or nano-inclusions appear to be the main causes of the milky or hazy appearance. The occurrence of strong fluorescence in combination with these features may cause a diamond to appear even milkier or hazier, but we saw no evidence that strong fluorescence alone produces noticeable haziness in diamonds that did not already contain light-scattering structural defects or nano-inclusions.”
I do think that if it bothers you, don’t feel bad about finding one you like better!
ETA, just read your note above. I think you absolutely can find a diamond that you love in all lighting conditions. So don’t settle. Let us know if you want suggestions.

You're welcome!! Yes something to consider since you still have the chance to return!! Let me know if you want to see any pics of mine in different lighting.. I can post here, or maybe private mssg? (Is that an option, I'm fairly new here)

I would return it. The experts here can find you one that ticks all of your boxes. I am not a expert, but I do always consider resale when I buy, and many buyers do not want strong blue florescence.

Wow that's interesting, doesn't it seem like a vs2 shouldn't have that many inclusions though?

And yes I would love suggestions please

I’m not an expert, but I agree…seems like VS2 would not have that many significant inclusions.
What is your budget and what specs (color, clarity) do you want? Just eye-clean or something more specific? Are you tied to a certain vendor for your upgrade or can you buy from anywhere?

I can go anywhere after return. we purchased this one from brilliant earth
I definitely want it to be eye clean and I'm pretty sensitive to seeing inclusions so I'm guessing at least vs2? But I haven't seen enough stones in person to know if I can go lower than that? Near colorless is fine for me definitely an excellent cut and now I'm worried about florecence.. this stone costed 10000 we'd like to keep it in that range

And how close to 1.5 ct do you want to be? Would you go down to 1.3 for better specs? I’m going to ask @DejaWiz and @Kim N to help:)

Look at the recommended specs for ideal light return here and keep your selection within these parameters: https://www.pricescope.com/education/diamond-cut/diamond-proportions
Then run it through the HCA calculator on Pricescope. You can also search multiple vendors at once on Pricescope and select “excellent” HCA score and other specs via the detailed search.

I think Adiamor, Ritani, and James Allen would be within the right price range.
