Oldminer, So funny you mention lampblack. We were clearing out an old outbuilding a while back and we found a tin of it, next to an Edwardian railway lamp. We blacked the lamp with it, and it came up really pretty, but I was beginning to think my shared prong eternity band would never be the same again. (I own gloves, but I was too excited abou the find to go and get them). Intereting phenomenon - lampblack will last for the best part of a hundred years, even if the tin it''s in corrodes to almost nothing. It was wrapped in waxed cloth inside the tin.
