For fun, do you think this is really an aqua?

Well, she told me she was looking at it as a gift for my bday in a couple weeks. I got back to her and told her if it's truly aqua, it's a good deal. The seller told her it was authentic. But, of course they would(!) If she pulled a typical mom, she went back and bought it, but will be silent about it til my bday. But secretly, I'm like: did she buy it? Is it glass?
I was kind of hoping someone here would throw out a simple, on the fly, way to test the stone when one finds themself randomly at a shop, being offered an " aqua", no loupe or spectrascope on hand:confused2:.

oh the suspense!!!!!!
you might end up with socks and hankies ?

you should give mom a loupe for her birthday  (as a bonus/ joke present
i always have mine at the ready !!!

I’m glad she got it. In any regard it’s a good price for a beautiful blue gemstone. If it is aqua woo hoo but if it’s Topaz, that’s still a great buy.

@TL she bought it as a gift for me, so I'm getting a blue chunk of mystery for my b-day. It'll be fun to get it and figure out what it is!

How sweet of your mom! My mom was like that too, generous and wanting to give presents. Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birthday!!!

Post more pics after you get it.

Well, I think you'll find out one way or another what it is...lol its really pretty.

Its from your mom which makes it super special anyways. But, gosh, I really love that heart shaped stone. They are not normally something that catches my eye but this one is beautiful. I think its a combination of the color, size and setting. Its just pretty, feminine and fun. I like it!

New photos from mom. She's shipping it to me tomorrow, so I'll get better pics Wed(?). She said now that she's had it at home, it seems lighter than she thought it was at the shop. In different lights it shows either more or less color. 20190512_204855.jpg

good one mom:kiss2:

Even if it turns out to be topaz, it's just gorgeous!
I love heart shaped stones!
I'm looking forward to seeing it on your hand.

Arrived today! I do believe it IS aqua! Photos do not do this stone justice. It is very sparkly and the color ranges from pale blue to medium blue to a greenish blue depending on the light. I opened it on the way to grocery shop so the first pics are in my car and in the store, before I got it home and cleaned it!

:appl:Yay, it arrived!! It’s lovely, and very lively I might add! What a sweet birthday gift from mom!

Yes, lively is a very good description! Looks so much better moving on the hand then in a still photo. I can definetly see why it caught her eye. I was frankly prepared to be underwhelmed, but dang! She's a keeper:lol:

I was following this thread since the begining and I'm so thrilled that she found her way to you! And what better shape of stone for a mother to give her daughter than a heart!

About the spiritual meaning of aquamarine (if youre not into this just bear with me lol) :
"Aquamarine evokes the purity of crystalline waters, and the exhilaration and relaxation of the sea. It is calming, soothing, and cleansing, and inspires truth, trust and letting go. In ancient lore, Aquamarine was believed to be the treasure of mermaids, and was used by sailors as a talisman of good luck, fearlessness and protection. It was also considered a stone of eternal youth and happiness. Today it protects all who travel by, over, or near water, and opens the channels of clear and heartfelt communication.
Aquamarine embodies all things connected to the sea, as well as those things relating to Heaven reflected on the surface of the water. It becomes a mirror, reflecting itself indefinitely, making it possible to discover hidden meanings of reality. As a stone of symmetries, it is conducive for meditation and revelation, a stone of prophets, shamans, healers, and mystics. It also allows us to explore the darkest depths of our souls, face to face with ourselves, and with others."
