For the millionth time, "manipulating" pics can be good or bad

... but as you said I might have trouble achieving high levels of intellectual sophistication

Well, maybe after a few beers, or ten, we could arrive at a mutually-satisfying agreement. :Up_to_something::lickout:

Post a picture, Jordy - would be helpful.

I don't have my photo booth setup right now, however I may be able to get a few photos under the lamp at my cabbing machine in the next day or so and will report back then!

Well, I guess that would depend on how precious :Up_to_something: your family jewels are.

I've only got a handful :saint:
In my safe of course, Opals and sapphires!!

OK we better stop ruining this forum with our banter, super serious gemstone and photography talk only!

On the subject of tricky gems to photograph...my pad is a great example!

My camera seems to almost always miss the mark when it comes to capturing it's true tone! IRL, the tone is almost always a tad deeper and more orange, but my phone camera seems to mostly capture only pink which is...frustrating to say the least.

Okay, I agree.
So, how wide of a lens do we need to get a pic of your entire "handful" ?

Sometimes I think light toned gems pick up the colour of the camera and throw it back at you from the photograph. Maybe once set you can try capturing a picture in the mirror like this

Omg TravelingGal's pad is still one of my favorites! Such a beautiful pink-orange mix! I'm still waiting on getting it set (super high gold prices right now!), but I'd be so happy if it came even close!

Yes this is one of my favourite rings here. There is another lovely leon merge pad floating around here somewhere. I think someone will be able to dig it up-- its 3 cts, has stunning colour and the person who bought it was upset as she didnt like pastel pinks. But she grew to love it in the end.

I've taken a few photos with my phone in pro mode to show the settings changes that we make. There are no changes to the light source, the angle it is pointing, the camera position or anything else - just the camera light exposure setting.

First, this is the setting that you're after. It looks the same for both cameras and phones that have a pro mode from what I can tell:

So the first two photos are taken with settings that tend towards over exposure, ideal for Black and Dark Opal but it causes a washed-out effect on Crystal and White Opals:

These next two photos have the settings tending towards under exposure, the Crystal Opal shows it's colours more true however the Black Opal is quite dark and the colour doesn't show as electric as it actually is:

Ohh, would love to see it! My other fav is Art Nouveau's pad ring; such a richly saturated, orange-leaning pad! One pad to rule them all!
