Friends! Had my first ring made ever!!

Thank you, my friend! You know, everyone told me to go understated and let the sapphire do the talking. But I just really felt it deserved a more elaborate setting. And I don't think it ended up taking anything away from the sapphire. Inken and I felt the color was so saturated that it would remain the focal point. Glad we went for it! I'm setting my ruby next, and I'm thinking a more simple 5-stone design is in order. We shall see... thanks again for the encouragement!

Woah, I was late to this thread. That's a big beautiful sapphire definitely deserving of a more elaborate setting. Congratulations!! :kiss2:

Would love to see the ruby you're setting. Did you also buy it from Inken?

Yes, I can see in some cases the 'let the stone do the talking' approach works, particularly if it's a striking type of cut (like aschers), but equally, a magnificient setting can really raise a beautiful stone to a whole different level.

I'd also love to like to see the ruby in something fab like this too, but maybe it's a five stone ring because you have 5 smaller sized rubies?

Will you be setting the purple garnet too?

Yes! I was thinking the purple garnet (emerald cut) might look nice with two step-cut cadillac diamonds in a 3-stone ring.

Truthfully, my instinct is to always go for some type of halo. But I'm trying to switch it up! It's just one ruby, so I was figuring 4 diamond side stones. I'll post the stone in a sec. I would certainly welcome any suggestions!

Thank you!! Here is the ruby... it's a little over 3ct. My lousy photo does it no justice, as usual. I actually purchased this from another PSer. Inken does not typically set stones that are not purchased through her, simply because she is so busy. But we shall see!

How do you guys see this stone being set? It's a little over 9x7mm. I was thinking something like this (below). Or do you think he'd prefer a halo like his blue brother? 8)

I vote for a halo/cluster, but then I would in most cases. If it's a smiliar design, you could even wear the ruby on one hand and the sapphire on the other at the same time (maybe not your style?). Lovely ruby!

I personally love the inspiration, but I wouldn't say no to a halo either. Why not do a "frosting" halo with smaller diamonds and then use sidestones?

Thank you, everyone! Inken and her team deserve all of the credit!! I want to mention that she sent back the diamonds 3 times because she wanted very particular proportions for the pears and marquises. And when she says F color, she's not going to send you G-H like some vendors. Not that there's anything wrong with G-H, of course. But when you're paying a premium, you want the real deal. I finally found someone as fussy as me, and it's glorious. You know how you sometimes feel like you have to over-explain yourself, ad nauseam, when you're ordering something custom? Not the case here. I literally explained once what I wanted, and off she went. We never tweaked anything. She did have her team make a few alterations during the process, but needed no input from me. I'm telling you, she's awesome.

@Rfisher Thanks, hun! Here is a video Inken sent me!!

Simply... FABULOUS! Enjoy wearing it!

I like your idea -- complementary-shaped side stones like bookends for the ruby! That's how I am accustomed to seeing the finer rubies "presented."

Same for sapphires, actually, but I already pointed out that in the case of your sapphire ring above, the size of the diamonds and their configuration looks less like a halo and more like flashing arrows pointing toward the showpiece. :mrgreen2:

Wow! Gorgeous sapphire, stunning ring, absolutely breathtaking!!!

Thank you everyone for the compliments and great suggestions!!

@LilAlex You sort of reinforced why I wanted to do a 5-stone design. I agree! Thank you!!

Love the inspiration, that's similar to what I would do so I'm a bit biased. I would use 2 bigger stones instead of smaller 4.

The color of that sapphire is divine!

Your new ring is devine! That sapphire is the most perfect blue color and the halo is made up of so many delicious shapes...its just gorgeous.

I'll be here waiting for some hands shots.

Hello all! I feel silly bumping my own thread, but received a request for some additional shots of this ring. :) Thank you for your interest and encouragement, @Neptune! For some reason, I have a hard time taking photos with my right hand while wearing a piece on my ring finger. I just cannot position it correctly. lol I actually wear the majority of my rings on my right ring finger. But if my right-handed photos are bad, you can imagine what my left ones would look like. These were all taken in natural light. None are great, but better than nothing, I suppose!

Your ring is so beautiful!! The blue sapphire against the diamonds is stunning!

Gorgeous ring!
Loving the new photos

And confession time - I would have bet the ruby /diamond daisy platinum &yellow gold ring Inken IG posted about a month ago was your Ruby :)

Oh wow, thanks everyone! You guys are always so supportive (but also honest when you need to be). I just love that about our little community.

Absolutely gorgeous.

Is the face up length 18 - 19 mm?

That's a good question, as I never thought to measure it before! You have a great eye - the length is 22mm. For reference, my left ring finger is a 5.5.

Gorgeous ring!

I wish! Now I have to go look!! I'm thinking the ruby or padparadscha will be my next project with Inken. But that will probably be well into the future, unfortunately. David is working on something for me now, and then I'd like to have Yvonne set some of her stones for me. The good news is I've successfully curtailed my gem buying (for now)!

That blue...

It is simply amazing

Holy gorgeousness! I still can’t get over that blue! Love love love!

Oh no, I'm quite out! 22mm is really big!

He's not shy, that's for sure! I was speaking with Amy (David Klass' CAD designer) yesterday regarding the ring we're making, and she said, "David wants to send you a plastic model of the ring before we go forward... it's really big." :lol-2: I assured her that, as a Native American jewelry collector, it's impossible for any piece to be too big for my tastes. I have rings that are like dwarf planets on your finger. They make this one look demure. lol

Thank you both! When you think about that fact that all of these impossibly brilliant gemstones are really just a by-product of the earth's natural life cycles and aging, it really makes you appreciate the wonder of mother nature. Actually, that's quite the metaphor! "If I have to get older, I'm going to do it alongside precious gems."

Wish I could poop out sparkly pretty things as I age :-P
