My friend''s mother passed away this morning.

I plan to make a condolence call this evening. I would like to bring some food with me. I was thinking of a platter of deli meats with bread or a pan of baked ziti. Are either of these meals appropriate?

How kind of you to think of bringing her something!

Just a thought: you might want to bring an item that can be frozen: a lot of people bring food that ends up getting thrown out if it doesn't get eaten right away.

The ziti would probably freeze....

Ditto, I think the ziti sounds perfect. You''re so thoughtful, sweetie.

I think anything helps, as they are all probably grief-stricken, may have lots of visitors, and won't even probably want to cook for themselves, let alone any guests they might have.

In the past, I have made a large pan of chicken stroganoff with pasta, covered it with foil, and wrote down heating instructions/freezing and reheating instructions for the family. I second the notion that anything that can be frozen is even better, since they may get an outpouring of food at first and it would help to be able to keep stuff longer before it goes bad.

So sorry for your friend's family. It is a very nice thing you are doing for them.

My mom always brings ziti under those circumstances. It is easy to make in bulk, freezes well, and something hot and homemade is always good when people need comfort. I am glad you are helping, My mom and I always do, the family has too much to think about to worry about eating well.

My condolences go out to you and your friend''s family. My father-in-law past away a few weeks ago and it''s been very tough on my Dh. He didn''t eat for a whole week! Ziti does sound perfect since it can be frozen.
