Happy holidays to everyone! Some of you may remember from my (very!) brief intro that I recently moved pretty far away from my boyfriend of two years. As an anniversary present to ourselves, we decided that when he came to visit last weekend (our first time seeing each other since my move two mos ago) we''d head to a Ritz near where I live now for a little R&R. The hotel was absolutely beautiful and we couldn''t have asked for a better weekend. (Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee, GA- I highly, highly recommend it!) We''ve been talking about marriage for a while now but I knew a proposal wasn''t in the cards this weekend. On the way back home from the resort, we stopped in a few really quaint old GA towns. In the last one, we passed a jewelry store and my boyfriend suggested that we go in and look at some rings- our first ring shopping trip!! At the beginning of the trip we''d talked about going window shopping so he could get an idea of what I liked, but we hadn''t really had any time all weekend. We found a few settings that we both really liked and even measured my ring size. (As a side note: I have really big hands- like, able-to-palm-a-basketball big- and we got my ring size measured- and it was almost an entire size smaller than I thought I was- so exciting! And to boot, he said, "Oh don''t worry, I''ll remember it", when the saleswoman at the store asked him if he wanted her to write down my size for him). I don''t expect a proposal for at least another 6 mos or so (though he did tell me that most of his paycheck is now going to a separate bank account- good sign, right??), but ring shopping was so so SO much fun! He was such a good sport, asking questions and cracking jokes and NOT having a panic attack, which was far more than I''d expected of him.

Also, I talked to him tonight and he told his parents that we''d been ring shopping when he was visiting and they were thrilled. And so am I- can you tell??? Sorry, I''m not usually this gushy, am just really excited about the events of last weekend and thought I''d share with y''all. Congrats to all of you ladies who are getting engaged over the holidays- what a special time!

What a sweet story. Sounds like you had so much fun ring shopping. Now we will wait patiently until we see that ring on your finger!!!!

Yay! What a great story! Ring shopping is definitely fun... Especially when your significant other is having a great time too instead of getting freaked out!

Great story! I love that you were both having a fun time!

That''s so cute! So what type of rings did you two agree on?

Well, I really like simple rings that look antique-y but delicate. Something like either of these but a little more subdued:

Previously I''d only really looked around online so it was great to see that those styles both looked nice on my finger. I tried a few others I thought I liked that just looked weird when I tried them on. We found a band that we both just loved- made by a local jeweler (obviously I can''t remember her name) but really different from anything I''d ever seen before. The band is a really delicate white gold, has a thin row of small bead set-looking diamonds at both top and bottom and then a row of slightly larger diamonds that almost looks like it''s floating in between the two. It sounds kind of like a lot of bling (not my style), but is really simple and delicate. I tried to find something similar online so I could email a pic to my girlfriends and didn''t have much luck. Has anyone seen anything like this? (Does my description even make sense?!?!?)
