Gem and Mineral show today

Thanks for sharing. A few months ago I went nuts browsing fossil auctions on Bonhams. Palm fronds are one of my favorites. This one even has a bird.

Regarding ethics and private fossil collections, its an interesting topic I plan to read up on. For this particular fossil its stated:
"The skull of the bird, found on the negative side of the palm half, has been preserved for scientific inquiry; a cast bird skull has been inlaid in its place."

I guess the bird's head cleaved away when they separated the layers. Very cool!

@stracci2000 my son found a scraper yesterday:)

Omg!
Wait wait wait .....
Are these things just lying on the ground?
Does your 6 year old have superpowers?
Do other people know about this place where artifacts are free for the taking?

And most importantly.....how old are they, and what people made them?

So yes I think he has superpowers haha he’s able to spot them on the ground where I would just see rocks and dirt. (Pic below). We have a book for south TX artifacts they we used to identify them; most seem to be 2000-3000 yrs old. I don’t remember more details as it’s more my husband and my son’s thing (I get very hot and bored quickly when I’ve gone haha - they will search for hours before finding one or two points). I will try to get you some more details :)

That's one lucky kid! ❤️
I think here in NM, people don't like to broadcast where the arrowheads are!

My FIL has a vast collection of fossils he found in northern NM. I think we will be inheriting them. They will take up half the garage, I think!
