LOVE your collection of Spinels! When did you start the collection and have you set any of them?

I like the pink Asscher by itself in WG. Did you buy it and then send it in to have it recut?

The reds are very nice too and I like them with YG.

The photoshopped earrings that use 4 red spinels are very cool but very very formal. Are you looking for everyday wear or something formal?

Patience,
Great choice with the Danhov setting. I''ve been eyeing it too. It has pave on the shank right? How high does the stone sit in the setting? Do you have more pictures of your aqua in that setting? I''d love to see it under "real" conditions.

My spinel collection started back in 2004/05. They were cheaper and easier to find then. None of them have been set. I am still mulling over the design but they are definitely going into 18kt yellow gold. I want something that goes with casual and dressed up clothes.

I thought about leverback earrings as I like dangles but the catch/latch on the back of my current leverback keeps popping open and I''ve already had the earring drop off my earring at least twice. Luckily, both times it was at home. I constantly check it automatically now. Plus, the holes in my ears aren''t straight, so the gemstones keep facing AWAY from me. I had to twist the leverbacks a little so that they now face the front most of the time. I like to be able to admire my gemstones in the mirror as I am wearing them.

I like the wire style but it can be a little tricky putting them on - I worry about distorting the shape of the wire. How well do those hold up? How likely are they to break?

I am definitely leaning towards keeping Pinkie by herself in a WG setting. I did not buy the original stone. The cutter, Jeff, bought it as a native cut stone to recut as something else for resale. Since I had a special request for a pink in a 2 carat size, it was a good match. He also found a couple other rough that might work but I ruled them out based on colour, price and size.

You have beautiful stones Chrono! I love those red spinels but don''t think the color combo of those with the pink would do justice to any of the stones. That pink should stand alone - it''s such a stunner. I can see it surrounded by melee...mmmm!

Maybe there''s something ''off'' about them that a jeweler could fix. I''ve never had this problem with leverbacks.

I don''t really know. I''ve never worn any! I just like their super-simple look. It seems they''d be even easier to tweak (for your un-straight ear-holes) than leverbacks, even. As far as their strength goes, ask a jeweler!

One thing about dangling gemstone drops: I personally prefer them to dangle pretty close to the bottom of my lobes....

Whatever you decide, I''d have the jeweler professionally ''tweak'' them for me so that they hang just right, and then you shouldn''t have to mess with them further...

I''m late to this thread but OH My Goodness, Irina, that earring design is TDF!!!! It is so gorgeous with those amazing spinels. I agree that pinky must stand on its own. I can''t wait to see what you come up with.

Chrono,

You ever figure out what to do with your stones?

No, not yet.

I''ve got too many projects running concurrently right now. I''ve just purchased a 2ct Mozambique tourmaline, and have a pair of Uruguay "siberian" amethyst being cut this week. I suppose Pinkie will have to be put on the back burner with the red spinels until next year.

Wow, thanks for the update Chrono!!
