Late last year my wife and I ventured into this wonderful of colored gems and custom jewerly. After searching sites and getting such insightful feedback on some of our candiates we bought a 2.56 ct (7.36 mm) Chrome Green Tourmaline cushion from Gene of Precision Gem. The story got interesting as I lost it outside the first day I got it

We then selected Julia Kay Taylor to create a pendant for us based on this template..

and this is what she came up with this wonderful design...

After a few months she was able to start our project and was such a pleasure to work with especially since we are so inexperienced with the whole process. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet her in person to pick it up this past Saturday to have our first look at it. My wife opened the box and tears of joy appeared as she saw what was just an idea become a beautiful work of art. The picture below is from Julia…

Another one from Julia this one from the side....

This one with my wife wearing it...

One thing we love is the fact she suggested a polished gold backing which to us really makes the gem become even more alive with all the light refecting from it. We look forward to working and meeting her again...

Lastly thank you all for providing so much wonderful information and feedback for newbies like myself

HOLY MOLY! Its seriously gorgeous. A very beautiful piece, and I love the polished back.

Wow, its pretty! (coming from someone who does not like pendant:)

It''s beautiful!

Wow, it turned out great! Not that I''d expect any less from Julia and Gene...

Beautiful!

The one of a kind design complements the tourmaline perfectly. Is that high karat gold (18kt) or am I seeing things?

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. For us we couldn''t be happier with the way it all turned out especially since it was our first commissioned piece and really didn''t know exactly what to expect. Only issue will be is to make sure my wife doesn''t get a bad case of gem fever after this

jstarfirb,

Very true that leaving the bulk of the work to such skillled artists like Gene and Julia it is hard not to get something beautiful.

Chrono,

Thanks for the design complement as that was our main goal as seen in this portion of an e-mail I sent to JKT when we started the project

"Since she usually wears yellow gold the plan is to go with that with the idea that the yellow gold would look good against the green and for the gold artwork not to be too much but done to highlight the gem not take away from it. "

Yes it is 18kt and after seeing it my wife will expect nothing less now

Also thanks for helping us decide on this stone as you were one of the reasons we chose it

Wow, that puts a lot of tsavorites to shame. Gorgeous stone and great design.

Amazingly beautiful. Great design and craftsmanship.

Oh my gosh! That is unbelievably gorgeous!! What a stunning design.

gorgeous piece -- that''s the type of thing i''d expect to see in a museum case. just amazing.

Beautiful!

Unbelievably beautiful.

Clearly custom in every respect.

I was pretty sure that was a tsav, a top quality medium-toned tsav. Not that there is anything LESS about a quality tourmaline (I loved your tourm) but that stone just looks so rich, maybe it is the pairing with the 18Kt gold, I don''t know, but the entire piece is so rich-looking and timeless. It''ll be breathtaking in 50 years.

Congrats, what a great team you all made, you/your wife, Julia and Gene.

BTW, did anyone else see what I saw there?

JULIA WORKED IN PRONGS.

Wow that is so pretty and unique. I''m always impressed with Julia''s work and she does it all by hand!

Thanks again to all those great comments on the pendant and I hope Gene and Julia get a chance to see how much their amazing work is appreciated.

StonieGrl,

LOL funny you should note that as we didn't know if she was going to accept the commission as the work I had seen from her was bezel but SOOOOO glad she did.

innerkitten,

It is amazing that she does it all by hand and hope that type of artistic craftmanship will stay with us as there is something so special about it.

That''s one of the nicest pieces I''ve seen from JKT, and that tourmaline is definitely one-of-a-kind! To find it in that color and size is very rare. Thanks for posting!

cellentani,

Thanks for the comment as all the work to date I have seen from her has been so nice. As for the stone I am worried that I may have gotten a lucky rookie buy as I am amazed on how wonderful Gene's stone is and it really looks better in real life to us than the pictures. The green is more stunning than we could of hoped for....

Sal, that is a stunning stone, and that pendant is just the perfect frame to complement and enhance its beauty.

Congratulations on your first project! It was most certainly a job WELL done!!!

Ooooo I had been lusting over that stone for sometime before it was purchased, I am so glad it went to a great home and that the pendant turned out to wonderfully!!!

Simply gorgeous

. Both the stone and the design. I''ve always shied away from square stones, not knowing how I''d set them. Now I have an inspiration.

What a lovely design Julia did, and I like that the stone is set on a diagonal. I''m glad you also did it in YG instead of WG. I love how YG shows off that bluish green color. Congratulations!

It''s really beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

very interesting and unique setting - it''s a great stone :)

What a beautiful pendant. Love the stone and the gorgeous setting.

I''m so glad your wife loves this piece. And, the best part is, you get to enjoy seeing it when she is wearing it.

Haha, that''s one of the first things I noticed! I may send a pendant project her way some time soon, and I''m really glad I saw this because I''d like to prong-set at least one of the 3 stones.

It''s gorgeous - I love the rich yellow withe bright green tourm, and the design is beautiful
