We have the old style and to clean it, we turn it on, it heats up the grease thats left, and we wipe it out with a paper towel. Like Storm said, 30 seconds.

I have the old style too but it''s very old and too small. I find that if I cook more than one piece of chicken it cooks too unevenly so I''m looking to upgrate to something larger and better or something different altogether, like the burner grill.
