Yesterday I asked my line manager at work to sign off 3.5 weeks holiday so that BF and I can go to Australia in May 2009. Line manager informed me that both she and the Head of department (who I have worked with for about 8 years now) have both approved it. Yey!!!
Head of Dept stopped by my desk and said ‘Did you get my message about Australia?’ and before I could reply Line Manager laughed and said ‘No, I didn’t tell her all of it!’
Head of Dept then said ‘I told her to tell you that you could only have all that time off if it is for your honeymoon!’ – now Head of Dept & his wife have been very good to me over the years and he has stated on several occasions that he didn’t think my ex was good enough for me after messing me around. He also thinks that current bf has had a very good influence on me and is pleased I am happy, hence the comment.
I laughed about it and then repeated it back to bf when I got home to which bf replied ‘you should tell him that it can be our honeymoon if you get your promotion and a payrise’. Now the previous day I had been told that promotion is being applied for and may happen after Christmas and bf knew this.
Saw Head of dept this morning and joked about the comment bf had made to which Head of dept replied ‘Careful what you wish for’
Now it is only a small thing, but even though I know it was all a bit tongue in cheek, it has still put a smile on my face. Even if nothing happens, today is a good day because – a)I’m going to Australia on holiday with a guy who makes me happy again b) my career is doing ok and c)did I mention I’m going on holiday to Australia?????
If I do get my promotion (doubtful it will be approved by the board given the current economic climate!) I wonder if it will be covered in dust. Am I getting a little carried away already????
