Gold ring identification help required

Hi all,

I have come into ownership of the attached gold ring with a red face and just wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it? I think i can make out the mark as HRRS and the number 9 but unsure what this means. Is is a standard stone or ruby?

The 9 will signify 9carat gold. The red could be garnet or glass/paste.
