Well finally I got it all sorted! Arrived back from New York on Sunday with my rings back safely to London! Would of posted this earlier actually but pricescope doesn't seem to work at home anymore, only at work
Funny how it all started off, was only suppose to buy one ring, it was going to be 1.5ct yet I ended up going with a 2ct ring, a wedding band and my own ring! I am based in London myself and just found a real lack of choice and the thing that I hated was I wasn't able to see the diamond I was going to purchase before hand and that really put me off. Now if I was going for a round diamond then it is fine but with cushion diamonds as I found out here there are so many varieties that I just couldn't take the risk. Also worked out cheaper for me as well to bring it over and I don't think I'd find the quality of diamond and workmanship I would here in England. Also got a little trip to New York out of it as well! Cool city, sky scrapers everywhere in Manhattan (where we stayed) but the people do seem a bit rude at times! Also took me half a day to figure out what people meant when they were saying go 2 blocks down, I was like what the hell is a block! Felt a bit stupid asking so just headed in that direction, got a call from a friend here in the UK who goes to the US a lot and he told me what it meant, boy did I feel stupid!
Now a quick review of the people I used!
GoodOldGold - Jonathan was really quite helpful throughout and kept me informed as far as which diamond I wanted. Funny thing was I waited and waited for the right diamond and the one I went with in the end he already had! Was convinced on around 1.7ct so was going for http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7386/ that one but when it came to it I just thought I wanted the 2ct stones so ended up going with http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6821. Now looking at the ASET (seems to have less white) and the picture of the diamond the 2ct doesn't look as good, almost seems a bit cloudy in the pic but let me tell you this that diamond is like glass it is so clear. Without sunlight it gives off such an amazing sparkle and in the light you need shades on! Amazing optics on these diamonds. It looks brilliant and these AVC do come with a premium but I'd say it is worth it. Weirdly on firefox the video on the 2ct diamond doesn't show up so I did have doubts but when I loaded it in Internet explorer you can see the video and in there you can see it does look a good diamond. So he has done a great job on these AVC diamonds and I'd definitely recommend them to anyone!
Leon Mege - Despite the reputation he has among some here the guy was a true gentleman, couldn't of met a more polite and nicer guy. When I went to see him as well went out of his way to help me out. I did make a few last minute changes and at no point did he get annoyed, throughout the thing he kept saying was I had to be happy with it and he would do whatever I wanted. The quality of his work really is top notch, having a look at the intricate work and how much detail and work must go into it is mind boggling. He is very reasonably priced as well I think considering his quality of work and I'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone. I had him make a single row micropave with double claws for the Engagement ring, used full cut diamonds. And for the wedding band he made a three row pave with single cut diamonds which was spectacular as well. Also a thin space for the two as well
Maytal Hannah - I asked her to make me a ring very similar to the Tiffany Lucida 6mm and she got it done for me really quickly and I must say she did a great job on it as well in such a short space of time! Was really impressed and she seemed like a lovely lady on the phone as well! Even though the ring was made by hand she was able to get it to me very quickly so was very grateful for that, again I highly recommend her!
Just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me out as well, it really did help open my eyes to things and understand what I was looking for. This forum has really been invaluable and I really shudder to think what I would of ended up with if I hadn't found this place. I knew this ring would cost me a nice tidy sum but what was more important was getting a ring that I'd be happy with and I most certainly am!
Right need to start a thread in show me the bling section!
