Halo vs no halo

Another vote for a halo! On a side note, it will require more cleaning...to keep it extra sparkly. Seeing how my SO is behind on regular cleaning, I should have just gotten her a solitaire lol :wall:but she loves it.

@DiamondH3art your ring is beautiful!

I believe I’m going to try to go to a local jeweler one more time, just to make a final decision - hopefully it’ll help.

Something about all that bling and coverage and overall detail that I love. Ok. To give you a comparison of coverage. Here is a 2.5 in a halo and a 4.95 cushion side by side. I gotta tell you that this comparison still baffles me. Sorry about bad angle. I’ll try to post a
Fair shots.

I'm a halo lover, so I would say go that way. The other one is nice too, but I think if you get that one you may wind up wishing for the halo.

My total budget is $5,000 for the setting and diamond all together. While the pave setting is cheaper, I initially fell in love with halos. I also like that this particular halo is a cushion halo. My diamond as I mentioned before, will be a cushion cut - and I’ve had mixed feelings about the pave setting with the cushion cut diamond, because since it has prongs, to me it makes the cushion look more like a princess and I’m dead set on making sure there’s no mistake that it’s a cushion cut.
If the prongs bother you, why not bezel set it?

@ILikeShiny I’m fine with the way the halo setting looks, I just mean when I’m leaning towards a pave setting, the prongs make me see the cushion cut as a princess. Bezel setting isn’t an option for a solitaire/pave, is it? I saw a seamless halo by jean dousset but it was way out of my price range

You CAN do a solitaire bezel setting with a pave shank, but it probably wouldn't look quite right.

Of your options, I like the halo the best. And the roundness of the halo emphasizes that it's NOT a princess :)

@ILikeShiny my thoughts exactly! I know a lot of people get a round diamond in a halo, and I’ve seen numerous reviews on the cushion halo I’ve picked where people get a round diamond - I’m just not drawn to round personally. I like the cushion because it’s different in my opinion - and not such a harsh square (princess)

I’ve even thought of a radiant cut, but with the cushion halo it only seems right to get a cushion diamond (of course this is just my opinion)

It is certainly a personal preference. I like solitaires for erings because I want it to be all about the diamond. Halos are gorgeous but I like them for colored stones.

If I could find something like this in my price range, I would definitely consider it - doesn’t have a halo, but is beautiful regardless.

Cushion solitaire, simple elegance. Halos are expensive to get them done right. Not chunky with too much metal and good pave work.

I felt this way too because I wanted my e-ring diamonds to stand on their own. However, halo for a RHR, sure why not. I have my very first halo in progress right now.

My before and after re-set, and the EC's forever home is a bezel with paved diamond air gap/line halo, next to a CS ring in similar design.

I do not like prongs and claws after losing the centre Imperial Jade of my mum's ring at one drunken work function over 20 years ago.

DK :))

How about a halo with a plain shank?
Again, for personal preferences, I do not usually like stones on the shank.
DK :))

I hate halos (just my personal preference). I find the small diamond border to detract from the centre stone (unless of course the centre stone has a sharp colour-contrast (sapphire, etc.))

Again, just my opinion - I don't want to offend anyone who owns/loves a halo. 8)

I know it’s personal preference - but what’s everyone’s opinion? My diamond is going to be a cushion cut. Just need opinions on setting:

I am getting my cushion halo with .92 True Hearts round center this evening, also ordered from JA! Will post pictures and let you know my thoughts once I see it in person :mrgreen2:

Beautiful! You said the center diamond was round, correct? What’s your ring size?

Yes, .92ct round center True Hearts! My ring size is 4.5.

It’s absolutely beautiful. I knew your ring size looked similar to mine, I’m a 4. I love that setting, and I’ve been dead set on getting a cushion cut diamond for it, but now I’m torn between that and a round lol.

Thank you :kiss2: Snapped a few more photos while in the car on the way to work.

I think if you’ve been set on a cushion cut from the start, you should stick with your gut. You’ll be happy and amazed with how beautiful it will look on your finger regardless! JA seems to have a really good return policy so if it doesn’t turn out the way you envisioned, you can return it for something else.

@justdeb__ Even more beautiful in sun light! Do you think a cushion and a round diamond would make a dramatic difference in the setting, appearance wise?

Nice job Deb.

I've never seen a cushion cut in a halo in person so it's hard to compare to my round. A quick Google search showed me some beautiful rings that at first glance looks very similar to mine so I think you can't really go wrong with either! It's all a matter of personal preference. What initially drew you to cushion cuts? Was it the shape or the facets, etc?

@justdeb__ a little bit of both, really. I like the shape because it isn’t a harsh square since the edges are rounded. But I’m worried that a cushion diamond with a cushion halo may be too much cushion, if that’s even possible lol. I haven’t seen any with a cushion as the center diamond either, even local jewelry stores here don’t have any halos with a cushion cut diamond. I’ve looked at images online as well, but images seem to not do the ring or diamond any justice.

My boss' ring is a princess cut with cushion halo. If I had never seen it in person, I would've thought the same as you and wrote it off as having "too much cushion". However, it's absolutely stunning in person. I personally still prefer a round stone as it seems to have a bit of an extra sparkle -- I might be biased here, though :lol-2:

Have you played around with the settings on JA's website with different shape stones? I know it's still not the same as seeing in person, but the 360 view really helps IMO. Below are all cushion halos with different stones.

@justdeb__ I have! I’ve been looking at JA since last year lol Im drawn to the cushion cut and the round, I feel like majority of google and Pinterest images have the cushion halo with a round diamond. Both are beautiful.

@ashjade I agree -- both the round and the cushion are beautiful! I'm sure whichever decision you make, it will be stunning. Please post pictures -- can't wait to see it!
