Hi All,

I've been engaged for about a year now and approaching my wedding day in T-4 months! We're working with a family friend who is a jeweler to create the perfect setting and I'm going back and forth between a solitaire and a halo setting. I currently have a 2.07 carat solitaire in platinum but I've constantly been thinking of the round halo setting. My biggest problem with the solitaire is that I can't seem to find a band that I like with it. I have long skinny fingers so the thin bands look best on me, plus I love the delicate/feminine style. I would love to see your solitaire vs. halo settings and if possible with wedding bands. Any advice is welcomed!

Attached are pictures of my current ring and what I'm looking to do...

The halo is similar to what it will look like however there will be no space between the stone and the halo, it will sit flush.

Thanks so much!my_ring.pnghalo_ring.jpg

i don't like that halo.

And your hands REALLY look perfect with a solitaire. I think you should get a solitaire and band that works with it. :wavey:

I much prefer the solitaire with your hands/diamond size.

Solitaire hands down, classic choice.

solitaire with blingy eternity ring band

+1 for the solitaire.Have you tried on a halo ring? I have been wanting a halo for the last 5 years and recently had a chance to do an upgrade. So made a trip to the jewelry stores and tried a ton of rings......found out that halo rings are just not for me. They are too busy for me but I love how they look in photos... still do but not to wear! So make sure you try some on before changing settings. ;))

I love the look of my 6 prong knife edge solitaire with my 2 ct eternity band. I recently tried on a bunch a halos and realized they aren't the look for me. I think with your size stone a solitaire looks best :)

I also vote for the solitaire.

DS2006 is correct.......also consider ERD

Yes, definitely consider ERD if VC and SK are too high.

Are you a matchy matchy type of girl? Do you want w-band and e-ring to sit flush?

I'm a halo gal, but the solitaire does look very pretty on you. You have really pretty hands, so whatever style you choose will look very nice -- big help, huh?? :D However, if you love the halo look, then definitely get a halo. :halo: :halo:

I'm not sure if the halo setting shown is the one you are looking into or if it's just for reference... Ritani and ERD make awesome halo settings that are amazingly affordable. You may want to look into one of these vendors, should you choose to halo. :))

Thank you everyone for the replies - I really appreciate it! The solitaire is pretty gorgeous :)

The Victor Canera is the halo that I fell in love with. I'm sure we've all seen the beautiful frankiextah's halo by VC and that's what really got me into the halo (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/victor-canera-rb-halo-ring-my-forever-setting-finally.164262/). I loved the way her e-ring and wedding band looked together - not flush. I'm working with a family friend who is a jeweler and she's helping me create the ring that I want but ultimately I'm torn whether to go halo or stay solitaire. I guess I worry the halo is too flashy. I've also had a really hard time finding a band that looks good with the solitaire.

This is the halo setting that I'm looking at with my stone. It current has a space between the halo and stone but that will not be there once it's completed. The hand in the picture is not mine (just fyi!). The wedding band would be the same as the band on the e-ring. Ultimately it's a personal choice decision but I wanted to know if anyone has made the change to a halo and then regretted it...that's my biggest fear!halo2.jpg

Have you tried some halo rings? I wanted a halo ring since 09 but after trying a whole bunch of halos, decided that it is just not for me. I love seeing gorgeous halos on pricescope and worked really hard at convincing myself that is what I wanted but irl, It was just not me. I think you need to try a bunch of different rings, big melee halos, small melee halos, plain/diamond/split shank and same with solitaires....maybe even try out bezels and see which one makes your heart smile. I called around jewelry stores and ask what brands they carried. I saw Ritani, Simon G, Gabriel and co, A Jaffe and some others..... so have fun looking and shopping... this is the fun part :D

I have also asked that question. Look up the threads I started and I think you'll find it. You might be surprised but I recently saw some of victors halos on preloved. Just sayin'. And I held off in my project too. Liking my solitaire right now. (Ok, non-halo)

You have gorgeous hands and both look beautiful on you, so it really does come down to what style you prefer. Big help, I know. I wouldn't let your fear of getting tired of the halo discourage you if that's the look you love - people change from one style to another all the time; if you regret the halo at some point, you can always go back to a solitaire.

I'm trying to think…off the top of my head I can think of one person who went from a halo to solitaire; I remember her saying the solitaire just suited her better.

I guess if you have any doubt whatsoever about liking the halo, maybe you should just stick with the solitaire. I was 100% positive I wanted a halo and I don't have any regrets about it.

There are a bunch of old threads about this - click on "search by google" at the top of the page and type in "regret halo" and they'll come up.

This was my logic... I figured it would be easier to convince DH to "downgrade" my setting than "upgrading" later on.

Disclaimer: In no way do I consider a solitaire a "downgrade" compared to a halo setting -- but to my husband:
less diamonds ----> more diamonds = "upgrade"
more diamonds ----> less diamonds = "downgrade."

...silly men.

Get what you like and don't worry about anything else! ;))

Edited for typos.

Out of the two your solitaire looks better the reason for this is VERY few jewellers can replicate Victors halos (I own Frankie's first Victor halo) so most of them don't look right on the hand by comparison. This jewellers work doesn't look like Victors so you might be disappointed. I would either stick with the solitaire which is elegant and classic or if you are on a budget get quotes from ERD or Erica from Love Affair Diamonds or other recommended places for doing halos or save up and purchase a halo made by Victor. I have walked into high end shops with mine (Tiffany and others) and his works blows all of them away, expensive but totally worth it.

OP, you may want to contact David Klass as well as ERD... He is more affordable than VC, SK, or LM.

Erd was only $500 cheaper than vc quote ... They aren't much cheaper,.

For which style, Jerseygirl??? That shocks me... :|

Oooohhhhh, wait! If it was for ERD's hand forged, then yeah... that makes sense, but most here will recommend ERD for CAD/cast designs if they are wanting "affordable".

A comparison point of reference for you... I recently got quotes for a halo from VC (hand-forged) and a halo from ERD (cast), same style quoted by each. The cast version from ERD was $2,000 lower in price than VC.

Hi everyone! I am on the fence about a halo as we'll and recently got a quote from VC. But I haven't been here in quite some time and do not know who ERD is and would like to check out that website. Thanks in advance!

Hi luvnlife, ERD is Engagement Rings Direct

My answer would depend on if you wanted a matching wedding band or not?

If you go with the solitaire you could do 2, instead of 1, bands to stack. They don't have to match so it would give it some visual appeal that I personally love on long elegant fingers.

solitaire gets my vote
