This is about my 10th FC band thread since 2010

I think I am finally going to do it! Things I have decided:

- 3mm stones, square
- probably 7 stone because I can't do the thick-diamond-band-between-fingers thing
- platinum
- no engraving - just not my style

My ring size is 5. I think 7 stones in a channel will give me full top coverage without going down the sides.

Things I have not decided:

- channel vs bezel (if bezel might have to do 5 stone, not 7)
- milgrain vs none (can decide later tho)

It will be to wear alone, or with plain wedder. Stones will be puffy crown rather than flatter crown.

Some inspo pics attached. Please discuss choice of setting! I think my gut leans towards a plain channel setting, but DK's bezel version is TDF...

The ring will be stunning. I love the definition the bezel set gives to each stone, like a frame. Are you going lab?

The bezel with milgrain would be my vote, I honestly just think it's got more presence. Could be that it's just more my style though. Anything you choose will be beautiful. I love french cuts!

I love the bezel version but with engraving etc. But for you it seems like the channel set would be better fit for you. I think the channel set is sleeker with cleaner lines which is more your style (from the description you just gave).

Oh so excited for you. I recently got my first frenchie ring and I am obsessed with it. Another vote for the bezel version!

Natural actually! It's hard to get FCs in lab as the way the crystals grow is not compatible with the crown and pavilion depths needed so there is a lot of waste, I think.

I like the frame too, but I do recall there was another PSer who reset her bezelled FCs in a channel set as they didn't quite twinkle the way she'd hoped. That was a very different ring (I recall it being diagonally set with single cuts as well) but is food for thought.

Edit: it was Bright Ice - here is the ring she originally had made; and here is the reset. Amongst other reasons for the reset, she cited that the FCs didn't sparkle/weren't as bright in the first ring as she had hoped.

Yeah I think you make a good point. All my other jewellery is pretty sleek and minimal! With that said, I wear my milgrain OEC pendant every day (never take it off) and looooove my milgrain bezel RB studs. The bezels and milgrain are super fine so as to sort of fade into the background and kind of push the brightness of the diamond to the fore, if that makes sense? But those are much larger stones.

I think earrings/pendants are different as you don't see them as much and no one scrutinises them as closely. Rings and bracelets/bangles on the other hand you see all the time. So your preferences may be different. That said you can't go wrong either way.

I personally LOVE the puffy French cuts set in DK’s bezel with miligrain. It would look gorgeous with your oec, especially since you wear it most of the time. That being said, this vintage Tiffany ring beetleandlark on IG sold last fall is something I fell hard for … something similar might be the best of both worlds…

I love this top-down, but the filigree and engraving is too much for me. Perhaps a simplified version...I think with the high-crowned stones I just want to make sure it doesn't look too busy - I worry bezelling each stone will make it all look more "up and down" or "textured" than I want...

What an amazing reset, wow what a difference. I see what you mean about the sparkle effect having the stones set next to each other. I can’t wait to see what direction you go, you have a great design eye.

This is gorgeous!

Take a look at oldcuclubmembers french band, it’s a simpler version of the Tiffany one… but still has miligrain ❤️ …. If memory serves me right I *think* she may have a frechie eternity bad from DK that has each diamond framed… but it’s early and I totally could be thinking of someone else, lol!

Here’s the link… I’ll attach one of her pics as well for drooling purposes :)

I don't know if this will help but I have this FC ring, bezeled, but no milgrain. The band is engraved. I went back and forth about having milgrain and decided against it, figuring it could always be added later.

Yes! This is the style I was coming to recommend. I love it. And I think you can easily adapt it to a more modern aesthetic. No milgrain, a sleek slash of an opening for the gallery with small circles perhaps, platinum frame for the stones and a brushed yellow gold shank…

Normally I would say squares but I have some graduated French cuts and it is so cool how they float together. But the surrounding metal is very fine; I would not want a French cut band channel-set in a way that made them look sunken.

I think you've hit the nail on the head - I love how FCs set girdle to girdle sort of twinkle in an undulating, almost amorphous way!

This was just posted by Sako today and it seemed relevant to you!

Oooh thank you!!!

This is great, the more different settings I see the more I can narrow down what I want.

The stones are from Alex Park and he's set aside 9 for me whilst we work out how many we need, so that would be 1.8tcw for a half eternity, 3.6mm-ish width, band. The starting point is simple channel set in platinum. Will look at the CADs, see how many stones are required for full coverage, how high it will sit off my finger, etc, and go from there...

Hi, as far as I know this is true if using CVD diamonds; no problem with HPHT stones. Another factor to consider is that, in small carat diamonds, there's no significant price difference between natural and lab, so I would go with earth mined ones.

I love your project : with 3 mm diamonds I would go with a simple channel setting...anyway I'm sure you'll choose a gorgeous band...can't wait for the final result !!!
