Probably should''ve started this thread last night, since it started yesterday at sundown, but I forgot. Whoops! Sorry.

I know it''s not as important a holiday as Yom Kippur, but I *love* Hanukkah and always enjoyed celebrating it with my best friend growing up (her family made me an honourary Jew since I celebrated so many Jewish holidays with them!). I hope that those of you who celebrate have a wonderful holiday!

Here''s one of my favourite parts of Hanukkah....latkes!

Thanks, Gwen!

I have a couple of friends who are honorary Jews in my life also. They just come for the latkes!!

Haha! Hey, although I love latkes, that's not the ONLY reason I'm an honouary Jew! I also took Hebrew at uni and love lighting things on fire (candles, candles, of course!).

Thanks for this thread!
Yes, Happy Hanukka to all!

The donuts, latkes and chocolates are a killer though!
It''s diet time right after the Holidays!

Best,

Happy Hanukkah to all!

When I was a kid, I went to a very large school and we were able to celebrate ALL of the Holidays. I learned a ton about different religions/cultures, but I have to admit, I became quite jealous of 8 nights of presents!! (we usually got 3-4 on Christmas)

Thanks, Gwennie!

Happy Chanukah, all!

I think I''m going to smell like latkes for a week after making them for so long yesterday. I have to admit, I don''t really even like them, but we always get all the kiddos together and make hundreds of them before our big family celebration, and that smell just follows us home.

Don''t be jealous, somethingshiny, we only got one present growing up.

Happy Hanukkah to all who are celebrating.

Happy Hanukkah!

I''m not Jewish but I have many great friends who are, even tagged along to quite a few Hebrew school classes with one of my best friends growing up.

PS--I love latkes...fried potato and onions...what''s not to love?

I''ve got some matzo ball soup bubbling away on the stove right now. Yum yum!

There actually was a Happy Chanukah thread started yesterday...

Thanks! I hate repeating threads because it sometimes can bring people a bit down. You''re a sweetie.

Yeah, I looked through about 20 pictures of latkes before I found some that looked like they wanted to jump out of my computer screen and into my mouth.

If I feel adventurous tomorrow, I might try to make some, but I''ve heard they''re hard to get right so I dunno...

Happy Hannukah! I grew up in a predominantly Jewsih neighborhood, so I always celebrated Hannukah with our neighbors and at school. Now that we don''t live there anymore, I totally miss playing dreidl for the chocolate coins.

There are lots of good recipes floating around on the internet.

Yay, happy Chanukah, everyone!

I watch one of our friends'' kids sometimes (helps keep any baby urges at bay), they''re 6 months and 3.5 years old. The eldest is learning about Chanukah this year and I got to read her a bunch of kids'' books about it. It''s been really fun, as I''m learning along with her

Oh, that reminds me! I did an English lesson last Wednesday on Hanukkah where the kids did some reading about the story behind the holiday (usually they do an assembly on it but they didn''t this year) and some other activities, and two of my students asked for extra copies of the material so they could bring it home and share it with their parents. How cute is that?

Happy Hanukkah for alll that celebrate! Gosh, everything looks yummy!!!

Happy Chanukah to everyone!

We went to the Houston Galleria last night to "Chanukah on Ice". There was a huge ice sculpted menorah, and the first candle was lit in a public ceremony. All the kids were skating and they were handing out latkes and jelly donuts. Lots of fun

. I have to admit to having stopped by the De Beers store as I passed it - after all these years I still get excited with beautiful jewelry!
