Sort of, my MOH came with me dress shopping and loved me in this one dress (and I really loved it too). And then when I showed her pictures of me in the dress I actually ended up getting, she was visibly disappointed. I don't care though - I'm sure she'll feel differently about it on the big day when she sees me just soooo excited to be getting married :) When YOU feel great, others can't help but notice this and it makes THEM think you look that much more amazing too! Go for what you want, and don't settle for what anyone else wants!
Same here. And Winslet's right. While my Mom wasn't as excited about the "other" dress, once we went to my first fitting, turned out she loved it.

ETA: Dress #1!

I''m not surprised to hear that many of us have been ''talked out'' of dresses that we really love and enjoy. Sometimes seeking second opinions is GREAT, and sometimes it really ruins the dress shopping experience.

We should start a new trend- Dress shopping alone and surprising everyone the day of the wedding.

It''s a little late for me, but I''d love to know if any other brides who have yet to purchase gowns are going to do something similar.
I bought my dress alone and no one''s seen it, and I really could care less if anyone else likes it (well except for FI which I feel confidant he will!)

Gwen 1 & 3 are amazing, so unique! I especially love the train on 3 and I''m not usually into trains

I just wanted to say that while I think all of the dresses are fabulous, #1 is AMAZING!!!!!!!! So stunningand classy. LOVE the sleeves! #3 was a second fave!

The first is my favourite too!

No one else seemed excited by it, so I''m glad you two commented on it positively.

Gwen I love the romantic feel of the first dress!!
1.gif
But I also love love love the ruching on the third dress.
3.gif
The sleeves are both to die for on both of them. I am sure you will find the right one.

I went dress shopping alone yesterday and it was fabulous.. It is great having no one asking you to try on a certain dress and then saying ''Yep.. thats the one''... No, no its not
38.gif

I am not easily influenced so I am not really worried about showing FSMIL/FMIL my dress, I love it and when they see how happy I am in it I am sure they will love it too
1.gif
Dannielle, I was thinking that I might go alone too. Don''t know how I feel about it. Was it a little strange to not have someone there to talk it through with? I worry that I''ll find the right dress and then not have anyone to hug!

# 1! Everything about it is gorgeous! I'm sorry you've had the experience you've had, Gwen. When I was choosing my dress both my mom and sister wanted me in something very bridal (i.e. lace, beading, ballroom etc.). I had a very specific look in mind. I wanted something that was simple, strapless, and mermaid. At first, the three of us were butting heads, but once I made it clear that I wasn't going to budge on some things my mom and sister came around and were really supportive. In the end, the dress I fell in love with and bought was a strapless mermaid WITH ruffles, beading and lace - lol! I guess my point is that it's good to be open to others' suggestions, but if you feel strongly about some things it's okay to stick to your guns. Of course you want your loved ones to think you look beautiful, but it's much more important that you feel beautiful! Good luck!

They are all lovely dresses but the first one is positively GORGEOUS!

I could picture you in that, from seeing the couple of avatars of yourself you have had up over the last few months.

It''s gorgeous...i love the sleeves on it. So pretty, feminine and almost vintage feeling, It would compliment your engagement ring nicely too.

Another vote for 1! It is beautiful and looks very well designed. I hope that it goes well for you.

I can also only ditto the advice you have been given about the opinions. Yes, people may be honest about what they think, but it is always filtered through their own sense of style. Perhaps they can help you find a flattering shape (but I also think that what you are comfortable with and like is most important in this aspect), but any opinions about style and decoration will be heavily influenced by their own styles. You have to feel good and confident on your wedding look and nothing anyone else feels about the dress will translate into these emotions within you.

So, I went and tried on dresses today--only ended up trying on the first one, since they didn''t have the other two anymore (people bought samples, and they take ages to get new ones back in). I tried a bunch of dresses on, found 4 that really made me look good (which was nice!!
9.gif
), and I liked them to varying degrees.

Wasn''t allowed to take photos (the woman was with me the whole time, so no sneaky cameraphone pics even), but I think you''ll be able to get the picture since they''re all similar cuts anyway.

So, here''s one that was very flattering, that would have lace sleeves added if I got it. Not crazy about the sparkly jewel thing in the center, but as a focal point, it did some magic, so I can''t really fault it.

HBB15.jpg

Another one that was very flattering--interestingly, perhaps, it was both my 2nd favourite and James'' 2nd favourite.

HBB18V.jpg

James'' favourite. This one looked good on (gave me a lovely waist!), but it was just too plain for me to love. Not crazy about the style of the sleeves, and it reminded me a LOT of my prom dress, which just didn''t sit right. BUT, it''s been discontinued, and is therefore VERY inexpensive. Like, about 1/4 the price of the dress I love. Always the way, right? (Well, at least for me.) I tried so hard to love it the best, but I just don''t...

HBB252.jpg

And, last but not least, MY favourite. And, naturally, the most expensive dress in the shop.
14.gif
The woman who owns the shop actually laughed because I had the least expensive dress (the previous one) and the most expensive one (this one) in my ''favourites'' section.
3.gif

Anyway, this dress is expensive because apparently it is all handmade lace, and doesn''t look like the rest of the dresses I''ve seen for sale here because it''s a designer who is only sold in two stores in the UK so far--the designer is Australian. Usually this designer requires at least 7 months to order a dress (insanity!!) but the sample fit me almost perfectly that the woman said she''d sell it to me for £300 off the normal price (not half price like the rest of her samples because she''s only just gotten the dress in and almost no one''s worn it). It only needs a tiny bit of alterations done, just a smidge of letting out just under the bust.

*sigh* Of course I had to fall for the priciest one there! If I can pay her in installments, then we can probably go ahead and do it (since J is beyond awesome and is so so so supportive of me getting the dress that makes me feel the most beautiful, even though his favourite was super inexpensive), but if she wants all the money up front, no can do! Even with the money off for it being a sample, it''s still pricier than any other dress I tried on. But it''s just right--not too flashy, not too plain, delicate, floaty, elegant, and beautiful.

Wow, Gwen. That dress is gorgeous!
30.gif
I am a HUGE fan of this dress! I like it a lot better than your and J's 2nd choice.

If this one is financially do-able. DO it.

That''s because that $$$ one is gorgeous! My second choice is the first one of this second round, with the brooch thingy.

I think the first dress is gorgeous and would look lovely with little sleeves, the second dress is nice but not my favorite, J''s favorite I agree is too plain and is my least favorite, and the last one is stunning, definitely my favorite! You will look amazing in it, I hope you everything works out and the dress becomes yours.

Gwen!!! I am SO glad you loved that one (your fave). I think it is just stunning.

When will yo know re:payments? Crossing my fingers for you!! Worth the $$ IMO if it makes you feel fabulous on your big day!

I love it! And your FI sounds like an absolute doll. I hope the shop is willing to work with you on paying for the dress of your dreams :)

She's willing to let me pay for it as though it was a regular ordered dress (as opposed to a sample), so half now, and half in 6 months. FABULOUS!! She's put it in one of her pink garment bags so that no one else can even look at it, hahaha! Mine, all mine!!!!!

Um, haha, I don''t actually know yet.

All I do know is that it''s by an Australian designer who isn''t really carried much here in the UK...? Will have to find out tomorrow when I talk to the woman who owns the shop who does it and if it has a style name or anything.

It''s gorgeous Gwen! I''m so happy for you that you could get it! You''ll be a beautiful bride!

I will call them tommorow and find out the price, heck it may be cheaper to import it then buy it there - or it could be a negotiation tool :P

Dee you are such a sweetie! Don''t worry about it if you''ve got a busy day and don''t really have time--I appreciate you offering, though! You''re the best.
