Has anyone ever bought jewelry from TJ Maxx?

I have in the past like a little gold necklace here or there and have always been happy bc it’s usually no more than $140. However one of the things that annoys me to no end is no info of gram weight of gold! For example I absolutely love this paperclip chain and I love the thickness of the links. When I tried it on though it’s superduper light weight. I would just like to know how light. I guess next time I’ll have to bring my scale! And be that weirdo customer...

Yeah! Bring your scale.
I hate that many retailers don't give the gram weights. Some chains are so cheesy and light, and some are even hollow.
The uneducated consumer doesn't know about the weight of chains, and what is a good buy for the gram weight.

You are the customer, and if you want to weigh the piece, you have every right. Who cares if the sales person thinks you're weird!

Ha! I just didn’t have it on me.

I’ve been tempted by that chain too!! Online though. Thanks for letting us know about the lack of heft to that piece.
I have found some nice ones on Etsy.

I haven't but I have a friend who does. She doesn't have any allergies to metal or anything. So she just buys whatever she thinks is pretty. She also gets jewelry there as gifts for other peolle. I think she only cares about whether the price is fair for solid metal or plated, things like that. She basically treats all her pieces from there like costume jewelry with the sole purpose of accessorizing her outfits. As long as they don't fall apart after a few wears, she considers them a good buy.

Online it’s hard to tell if it’s the same thickness of this one! It’s so light I would be surprised if it’s 2g. But I love the thickness of the links.

Only silver jewelry. I find that the gold is light with no weights and seems expensive for the venue. Also, the quality can be lacking...check the clasps...very, very thin. But the silver stuff can be fun as it is made all over the world and designs vary. Also can be a great deal if in the clearance section.

My mom LOVES Tjmaxx and so I grew up also loving it. I even worked there in high school and college. Their jewlery has really gone downhill in the past 15 years IMO. I purchased some lovely classic gold, funky pearl, and intricate silver pieces with my employee discount (some of which were already on clearance) back in the day. I still buy a lot of clothes and homegoods there, but not jewelry - I always look though!

I'll post pictures if I have any :)

I have some jewelry from long ago too! The newer gold does seem flimsy as the previous poster mentioned. The silver still seems ok.

I recently scored a tri-color 14 kt dangle necklace on clearance from TJ Maxx. I actually love it. It has the perfect boho vibe that I have been looking for.

I'd be more 'weirdo' than you.

I'd bring my scale that reads in grams AND my calculator since the different karats categories of gold mean different percentages of gold in the various alloys.

24K = 100% gold
18K = 75% gold
14K = 58.3% gold
10K = 41.7% gold

I'd also keep in mind ...

The troy ounce (used in weighing precious metals) is the equivalent of 31.1034768 grams, whereas the ounce is the equivalent of 28.349 grams.

All that said, if you're looking at jewelry and giving weight to how much actual gold you get for your jewelry dollar it might suit you better to just buy gold bullion of 99+% purity.

Then you're not paying all that extra for jewelry manufacture, marketing, advertising and retailing, which vanishes into thin air if you ever sell that jewelry for scrap.

Yes, I found some cute little 14kt huggies for my daughter, also a little band ring and a dainty necklace

Well. Live and learn.. I didn't know that TJ Max sells jewelry and that type of chain is called a paperclip. I don't have a TJM near me however.

Unfortunately, scrap value is
far, far below retail.
And scrap dealers will go only give you 70-85% of scrap in the end.

I went back with my scale today and it’s 4.75 g. I wish it were either heavier or less expensive. I really love the thicker links on this chain.

Keep checking back! Maybe it will go on clearance. The necklace I got is much lighter but I did get it for half off.

I bought the paper clip chain today. I figure at least I know what I am getting whereas online I was hesitant. We’ll see how it wears. It’s 14k and 18 inches. I wear it shorter.

Awesome! Does it feel pretty lightweight?

@Mreader yes it does. But so did their rope chains so I wonder if I’ve just gotten used to the heft of platinum. Anyway, I like it so far! It was a good price as I’ve been shopping them.

I know this is an old thread but I have to show these off. How can this price be real? Made in Italy 14k $129.99. Sometimes I like to go minimal :)

I am glad you resurrected the thread; I love seeing TJ Maxx Jewelry. I have some more to share later when I am able to take pictures :)

Very nice!
I ordered a pair of earrings that should be delivered this week :)

Here is my recent TJ necklace but my plan is to remove those leaves and put them on a stronger cable chain and have them beside each other instead of a drop. Let’s see if that will ever happen! Lol.

Pretty! I've got a multi-colored sapphire band coming :P2

Pretty! I have a thing for leaves lately.....!
And the look on that kitty's face made me laugh out loud!
