Happy Monday (but seriously, isn't that an oxymoron??)

Marcy, for whatever reason, we seem to only have pancakes or waffles on Christmas or New Years. Our Saturday morning breakfast is usually, eggs, toast and sausage. Otherwise, I gave Charlie a NutriNinja for Christmas and he makes a fruit smoothie every morning, with protein powder and Greek Yogurt. They are yummy and good for us too.

I had to leave work early this afternoon for a dentist appointment. I've got a tooth that just feels odd, but my dentist couldn't come to any conclusion as to why. He adjusted my bite by grinding down two teeth just a bit and if it doesn't improve quickly, I have a referral for an evaluation by a root canal specialist. I wasn't blessed with the greatest teeth, even though I floss and brush after eating anything. I've got enough crowns in my mouth (after root canals) to have been able to buy a flawless 10 carat diamond if I hadn't.

For dinner we had baked chicken, steamed broccoli and mushrooms. I made a homemade gravy to go with the chicken.

Marcy, I'm sorry you and Marty have stomach aches.........

Rod-I love those ecards. I especially love the snark-ecards because I'm a snarky kind of person. Matt has 12 crowns, and our dentist jokes that we must not have anything better to spend money on! I think it's because he lives on candy and junk food.

Marcy-have fun on the performance appraisals. You need to be able to work somewhere quiet with no interruptions for those things. I sure didn't miss having to do them last year. I'm sorry to hear you guys have stomach aches. Is it from the Ethiopian food? Tell Marty he food poisoned you. Lately at work I've been telling it like it is. I used to have a better filter, but I think working too many hours has broken it.

I ended up working 6 hours at home today, and I ended up getting quite a lot done. It has been snowing since I got up at 7:30 and hasn't let up all day. We have about a foot of that white stuff, and the temp got up to a tropical 11 degrees. It's supposed to continue snowing until 5am, so I will be going to work late if at all. And Matt will be driving me because I'm terrified of sliding off the hill and down the ravine just trying to get out of the neighborhood. I shared a peanut butter sandwich with Lily for lunch (I need to stop turning my head while I'm eating a PB sandwich. She can't help herself.) For dinner I made tacos, and Matt made rice crispy treats for dessert. It was a low maintenance kind of day. Have a great Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday kids!

Curby, Marty *may* be off the hook because I bought a vintage lace tablecloth off of ebay and will try hanging that over the bed. It is the same *concept* as the scroll-work panels but obviously much lighter! And I like the idea of something cream colored rather than dark over the bed because of the light situation in that area. The good news is if I don’t like it I’m only out $58 including shipping rather than over two grand, ha ha!

Deegee, I think you are a saint to stick it out with your current situation! Do they appreciate you? For me that has always been half the battle; I’ll do *damn near* anything is someone appreciates me, but the instant I feel taken for granted I’m out of there. And it’s amazing how fast I went from “I love my boss” (and I DO, but his grating trait has just become so prominent lately) to… hmmm… maybe I SHOULD talk to some of the head hunters that keep calling me… !

Rod, at my job in Kansas City my direct boss came in promptly at “hangover hour” (i.e., 9:30ish) many mornings too and it drove me crazy. He wasn’t a twenty-something either, but I think around mid thirties, so well old enough to know better and act like the manager he was supposed to be. I liked him as a person, but he really was a bad manager (not just due to this this) and I hope for his sake that he turns into a better on as he ages in his role because I think he’s got a lot of potential.

So Saturday I took my (very sick) clients out to look at condos. They insisted we go, even though they didn’t feel great, and we found one thing the husband loved by the wife didn’t. I think they came to the important realization that maybe they should move their search out of the immediate neighborhood they live in now and look at single family homes rather than condos. I’m sure we’ll find the right thing, but the search needs to shift to make that happen.

Sunday my neighbors came down and we spent eight hours sitting in my living room drinking. Nothing like a whole lotta slow drinking on a dreary day with your neighbors!

Yesterday I cleaned up a bit and got everything in order for my accountant, who I’m meeting with on Thursday, for both my corporate taxes and then those feed into my personal taxes. I hope the news isn’t TOO bad this year because I made a bit of money through my corporation that I may not have accounted for well enough through the taxes I have taken out of my regular paycheck. Oh well, it is what it is…

Here's a pic of the tablecloth. It's 86" X 67" so it would fit well above the bed.

_27162.jpg

Very pretty lace tablecloth. I love those things. My old house had lace curtains in the living room, dining room, kitchen and guest bedroom.

A side note I wouldn't be surprised if my mom's lace tablecloths aren't on EBay or Craig's List. Bitter sister took home everything she thought might be worth something and I sincerely doubt it was for sentiment.

LOL Curby, my first thought was that my great grandmother's cedar chest of old lace tablecloths is worth a fortune when I started scrolling through all the options on ebay! I even texted my brother to ask him if all that was still in the house, but I'm afraid I'd have to go back to Pittsburgh and dig it out myself if I really wanted it. No thanks -- I'll buy off the magic internet!

Happy Tuesday!

Rod, Thursday and Friday are my worst days at work, but yes I guess Happy Monday can be an oxymoron. I try to stay away from eggs since they are chicken. I tested positive to being allergic to them but so far I can tolerate eating them occasionally. I worry about getting to the point I can’t eat anything that has eggs in it so Marty only gets eggs once on the weekend. I usually eat half of one when I fix some for him. Your protein shakes sound delicious. How is your tooth feeling today? I have a tooth with a crown bothering me but it’s off and on so I am not convinced it’s bad enough to go to the dentist. I faithfully brush and floss too but when I go to the dentist they ask me “do you floss?” I guess we are both blessed with bad teeth. Did you have lunch with that other company yet?

Deegee, are you guys near that big fire from the train explosion? What an awful disaster. Ecards and Snark ecards are often very funny. I would accuse Marty of trying to poison me whether he cooked my supper or not. Or at least he’d encourage those killer rabbits to poison me. He’s been asleep since about 2 pm after taking some Nyquil. He has a bad cold. That’s what he gets for bragging how traveling all the time has improved his immune system and he never gets sick anymore. Of course he’s been home for a few weeks so it must be a Wyoming germ that got him. I am feeling fine today. Yes, I hate PA’s. I submitted 4 of them already. The 5th is saved for later. He is the guy who yelled at another employee. They did self-appraisals first and he rated himself as exceptional; the highest ratings you can get. If I submitted that to my boss it would get kicked be to me immediately. I am debating how many negatives to list on it. He has the technical knowledge and knows our processes and procedures but his people skills are bad. He even had down a goal to take management classes. I deleted that one. I’ll review it again tomorrow night and then submit it. I think it’s good you don’t have an inner filter with work. I have gotten that way as well. Don’t ask me what I think unless you really want to know the answer. How was the snow today? Did you work from home? That is nice of you to share your PB sandwich with Lily.

Dee Jay, Marty was just starting this giant portrait of a diamond for you. I’ll let him know he can paint pictures of the teddy bears instead. I think a lighter background is a good idea. I will be anxious to see what your lace tablecloth looks like on the wall. I am sure you grandmother had some very nice lace tablecloths too. When I was cleaning things out of my parents house I didn’t want to mess with much of anything but I wish I’d picked out one of her lace tablecloths. I have one that is too small for my table but when Marty was gone before Christmas I actually put it in the middle of the table over a red tablecloth and it looked pretty nice. I hate to hear you don’t feel appreciated at your current job. That would probably make me start looking elsewhere as well. Back to the drawing board for your clients; it sounds like they don’t know for sure what they want. I hope both of us do well with accountants!

I tried to sleep in today but Marty must not have got the memo. He was making coffee and his breakfast about 6:30 so I got up then. I worked on 4 PA’s and had them done by noon. After lunch I worked on the last and most difficult PA. I know I have a fight in my future. Maybe if I get him to demonstrate he can walk on water I will agree to change his ratings.

Marty didn’t sleep worth a darn so he’s asleep already and I hope he sleeps through the night. I guess I’ll venture over to a guest bedroom so I won’t wake him up tonight.

Take care.
Marcy / Curby

DeeJay, I love "hangover hour!" I'm afraid out division on a national level has lost any direction. Again, they hired a national General Manager to run our division across the country. He's 32 years old and has no clue how to provide direction to anyone, doesn't follow up, even when asked to follow up, works about 2.5 days a week and has managed to take an organization to the lowest level it's ever been. And he's only been in his job 5 months.

Marcy, my tooth (whichever one was bothering me) seems much better today. I really hope the bite adjustment (grinding down of a couple teeth to fit my bite better) makes this go away. It concerns me because if I take a new job, I won't have insurance (health, dental or vision) for 90 days.

My lunch with the possible new company is tomorrow. I've known them a long time, so it will be nice to see the President of the company and one of my best friends works there and she'll be coming along as well. So, I'm looking forward to it.

I'll let you know how it went tomorrow evening.

Rod, that GM for your division sounds like a real winner. That's great your tooth feels better today. I find my sinuses mess with my teeth a lot. Good luck with your lunch meeting tomorrow. That's great one of your best friends works there and is coming to lunch. Being without insurance for 90 days is kind of scary but getting out of your current situation sounds like a good plan. I'll be thinking of you.

Dee*Jay-I remember tablecloths like that when visiting grandmother. She had so many of them. Now I'm wondering where they went after she died. I am appreciated at work in that I figure out how to get done whatever is thrown at me, and they're confident enough in my abilities to throw a lot at me with zero micromanagement. That's about it. They say they appreciate me, but I really would prefer a raise to "atta girl". I wondered if it was the boss you loved who was causing your grief.

Rod-glad your tooth is better. Hope the quick fix works long term. I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to your lunch tomorrow. Good luck!

Marcy- Good luck with your problem guy and his appraisal. Would you believe I haven't had a performance review in two years? It sounds like you got a lot accomplished today. The train derailment isn't too close, but we wonder about our water supply. The latest news reports there were no tankers in the river, but oil leaked into the river because the river was on fire. Supposedly they closed the intake valves, but everyone is a little wary after our contamination last year. I still haven't cooked with or consumed water out of the tap since that happened. We picked up an extra 5 gallon bottle for the water cooler and several gallon jugs today just to be on the safe side. I feel so bad for those people near it though. Temps below zero, over a foot of snow, no water, no power, and having to reside at a shelter for now.

The roads were lousy this morning, especially our hill, so I stayed home. I had built up 3 comp days in the last two weeks, so I decided to use one of them today. I ended up working 6 hours anyway, so I only have to use 2 comp hours. We ended up having to take Lily to the vet this afternoon after the plow made it through the neighborhood. Poor little thing has a bladder infection and she's so miserable, plus she hasn't let me sleep more than an hour at a time because she thinks she needs to go outside to do her doggie biz. Those infections make you feel so bad, and the poor little thing keeps whimpering, curling up into a ball, and then suddenly running to the door. Food today-I had a bowl of cabbage beef soup for lunch and pork roast and veggies cooked in the crockpot for dinner. Have a great Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday kids!

Curby, I see lots of pics of lace tablecloths over solid colored ones and it is such a cool look! I just remembered I have to get the mileage off my car as of 12/31 for my accountant, so I guess I'm not totally done, but I’m going to have to back into it based on the driving I’ve done since then because I forgot earlier. Oops. One of the tax pro I was talking to the other day said she tells all her clients who drive for their businesses to get their oil changed on 12/31 (or close to that) so they have the info on the little sticker they put on your windshield. Brilliant!

Rod, Good luck with your lunch today!!! I can’t wait to hear how it goes and if you walk away with an offer (which I’m crossing all fingers and toes that you will). Keep us posted!

Deegee, Oh no – Poor Lily! Did the vet give her anything to take care of the infection and also make it so she doesn’t feel like she has to pee all the time? Our two crazies have had everything imaginable wrong with them and it always makes me feel to helpless because they can’t TELL you what the problem is.

Last night the CB picked me up from work and we went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. We ran into a friend of mine (the same guy who referred me to the accounting firm that I quit on Monday). I don’t think I told you guys that, but it was starting to be more trouble than it was worth. The traffic to the ‘burb where the office is was horrible (it often took me two, if not THREE, hours to get home every single time) and I wasn’t doing any accounting, just business development stuff, so we agreed to part ways. Honestly, they were probably as glad as I was because I know they wanted more hours out of me. The bad part is we’re deep into tax season now so it’s probably too late to get another tax job. Oh well, I’ve got a couple of active real estate clients so I guess I’ll focus on those for the moment.

Hi There!

My lunch went really well today. I've known the President of the company a long time and one of his employees is a really good friend and he brought her with him. It was fun catching up. He's thrilled Charlie and I are finally getting married (he knows Charlie too as we worked in the same building for several years). Finally, he just looked at me and said he truly regretted not hiring me 7 years ago and wanted to know if I'd like to join them. I told him I'd be having my 7 year anniversary where I am now, and it's a shame it won't be my 7 year anniversary with him. So, I'll have a final meeting with his partner tomorrow afternoon and we already kind of picked a start date. Unless something goes really wrong tomorrow afternoon, I should be working my last day at my current job next Friday and quitting before Boy Wonder appears on the 2nd. I'm going to take a week off between so I can clear my head and be really ready to hit the ground running.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow.

Rod, I am so excited to hear that. Glad things went well and will keep good thoughts coming your way tomorrow.

Thanks Marcy!

Happy Wednesday!

Deegee, I’ll take a raise over praise any day of the week! I need to review that guys appraisal and tweak a few things then I am going to quit stewing about it and hit submit. Glad that explosion wasn’t near you but it sure is awful. Your water contamination was the first thing I thought of when I hear some of the oil went in to the river. I don’t blame you for still using bottled water. Poor Lily! Is she doing better tonight? I am glad you stayed home with the bad weather.

Dee Jay, the lace tablecloth I got is about 10 to 12 inches too short but if you put it in the center it doesn’t look bad at all. I think I’ll get it out to use now and then. That is brilliant to get your oil changed close to the end of the year to have easy access to your mileage at the end of the year. Anything that helps with taxes, right? I can’t say I am surprised you quit that other job. Your commute sounded brutal especially on bad days. I know you will find ways to keep yourself busy though. I see brutal cold and snow are coming your way.

Rod, I am so excited to hear your luncheon went so well today. :appl: Good luck tomorrow afternoon. That will be so awesome to be gone before boy wonder shows up. I’ll be watching tomorrow for your update. I remember when you got this job 7 years ago. I will be crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and anything else I can think of tomorrow.

Marty got up about 10:30 last night, took more Nyquil and went back to bed. I decided to sleep in one of the spare bedrooms and quickly decided that was a bad call. I couldn’t get comfortable, I didn’t like any of the 4 pillows on the bed, and the room isn’t anywhere near as dark as our room so I hated that. I watched the clock for hours. I think I got 3 hours of sleep. I plan on sleeping in our room tonight.

Marty baked a roast for us for supper. I made veggies, potatoes and gravy when I got home. I might vote for going out somewhere tomorrow. We are getting snow this weekend.

Take care.
Marcy / Curb

Good Evening!

I had the final interview this afternoon. It was fun and I really really like the boss I'd report to. AND...........

AND............

He offered me the job and I accepted! I start on March 7th!!

It's been such a long time coming, but I'm really looking forward to this. It's not a structured environment, he won't manage me and he'll just let me do what I do best.

He offered a decent salary plus commission, so it will be so nice to not be working 100% comission.

I've had a couple glasses of wine. I'm feeling a bit loopy as I don't drink much!

Woo boo! Congratulations, Rod. I am so excited for you. :appl:

Rod, your new job and boss sound great. That's nice to have a salary plus commission, not be micromanaged and work for someone you like. I would be celebrating with some wine too. March 7th will be here soon. Are you giving notice tomorrow?

Marcy

Thanks Marcy!

No, I'm not giving notice tomorrow. I'm actually going to work all next week, so I can give notice on Monday, March 2nd, so my health insurance will go through March. I'll have that whole week off as the moment we give notice at my company, you leave. They don't let anyone stay past giving notice.

Happy Thursday!

Rod, good idea to quit in March so you'll have insurance next month. I am glad you are taking a week off in between. Good idea!

My day certainly can't hold a candle to Rod's day but my day wasn't bad. I slept pretty well for me and had a busy day at work. Marty made fajitas for supper out of our leftover roast beef. The snow storm moving in tomorrow could leave 4 - 10 inches here; depends on where the storm stalls. I am glad we only have plans tomorrow evening.

Have a great evening and day tomorrow.

Marcy / Curby

I know our weather can't even compare a teensy tiny bit, but we're going to have a hard freeze in Tampa, tonight. It's the coldest it's been in many years. I even had to turn on the furnace when I came home tonight. It's the first time we've had to turn on heat all season. I can feel the sympathy all the way down to freezing tampa as I type! LOL

Happy Friday kids!

Rod, I am late to this party, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! I'm thrilled for you and I wish you many happy years with your new company!!!

Curby, it is Cold with a Capital C! I had a meeting this morning and I took a cab there but walked the four blocks back to my office when it was over. I have on Uggs (not the ugly ones, but black leather ones) that have the sheepskin lining and THICK wool socks and my feet were FREEZING!

I am working today, even though I don't normally come in on Fridays, becuase of the meeting this morning. It was our quarterly Chicago compliance meeting and we had two really good speakers. This evening the CB and I are going out to dinner with friends. And this weekend I don't have anything major on the agenda. Holy cow -- I might try to (drum roll please!) R...E...L...A...X for a few days!!!

Rod-congratulations! I'm so excited for you! It sounds like you'll be in a good environment. Salary plus commission sounds like a better deal too. Good call on holding off with the notice. Im sure when you do give it, you'll be grinning from ear to ear! I'm so glad everything worked out for you.

Dee*Jay-I wore my (not the ugly ones) brown leather sheepskin lined UGG boots with thick socks yesterday. By the time I walked from my car to the building, my feet were so cold and tingly. I couldn't warm up all day.

Marcy-I have a hard time sleeping in rooms that aren't as dark as mine. I'm spoiled with my blackout drapes. I bought sleep masks to take with me for when we go out of town because I know whatever room we sleep in wont be dark enough. Did you have a nasty bad weather week?

This extreme cold was really hard on my achy body this week. After 11 hr days at work, I came home each night and went straight to bed. I know it's colder elsewhere, but we sure aren't used to these temps. Yesterday it was -13 ((windchill -25) for my drive in. The building lost power during the night, and had only been back on for a short while when I got there. I wore a thick scarf and had my snuggie wrapped around me all day. I have a corner office so 2 sides of it are all windows, and it stays drafty anyway. I seriously considered staying home, but decided that would be seriously rude because I had a 9am meeting with the vendor dude who flew in from Boston just for our meeting. I'm hurting less today, probably because it has been freezing rain all day and I haven't as much as poked my head out the door. I'm wrapped in a blanket by the fire. Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks Deegee! I'm really looking forward to starting the new job on March 9th. I don't what I'm going to do at work next week, except occupy space, but I'll try to look busy.

Those temps sound waaaaaaay too cold. We were in the low 30's Friday morning, but today it warmed up to a nice 76 and tomorrow near 80.

We're going to go for a nice long walk tomorrow along Riverwalk. We're having filet's and baked potato's with fresh spinach for dinner.

I hope you're all having a nice relaxing weekend!

Happy Snowy Saturday!

Rod, a drop of 50 degrees is always a shock to the system. Our summer rainstorms can drop temps about 40 degrees; it is pretty amazing. Then the sun comes out and it’s back in the 80’s. You should definitely not work anymore than you have to next week. Looking busy is a good plan. Your walk and dinner sound fabulous.

Dee Jay, so I take it you are not liking the Siberia express or whatever they heck they named this cold snap. We are warmer than you are but it is still hard to tell how much snow we got since it’s blowing sideways. I hate when it’s so cold even our warmest clothes and boots don’t make much difference. I hope you are having a nice relaxing weekend and staying warm.

Deegee, since you and Dee Jay are getting cold feet I have no desire to venture out until it warms up. I definitely need to get myself a sleep mask. Our bad weather started yesterday and the foreseeable forecast looks bleak. Sorry the weather is giving you an achy body. Accuweather had ratings for migraines, allergies and arthritis pain. Of course I usually already know if it’s a bad day without checking. Glad to hear you are relaxing by the fireplace.

Our astronomy meeting went well last night. The snow started before we went to the meeting and the roads and sidewalks were really icy by the time we came home. Today I spent more time in the kitchen that I intended but we ate well. Egg and cheese sandwiches (Marty got 2 and some sausage), homemade beef noodle soup for lunch and then I made some chocolate chip cookies. I stopped at 2 hot cookies. Yay for some restraint.

Take care.
Marcy / Curby

Happy Sunday!

Snow, snow go away . . . just sayin...

Lazy day here in M&MLand. I slept in again. I told Marty if he wants breakfast earlier he needs to flip on the lights or pull up the shade. Once i see light I'm awake.

We had waffles for breakfast and I cooked Marty some sausage as well. I made meatloaf and crock pot mac and cheese for lunch. Marty bought penne instead of macaroni so some of the pasta was crunchy but it tasted okay. The only day we'll be above freezing and no snow in the forecast is Tuesday so hopefully we can get to the store that day. Marty will go for me too so I should make us a list.

I rounded up hopefully everything I need for the CPA Tuesday. I will be anxious to hear their preliminary prognosis on taxes.

Have a great week.
Marcy / Curby

Sorry for all the cold snow you are all getting up north. You may want to stop reading here..........

Today was beyond sublime. It was about 78 degrees, no humidity, a light breeze, a few puffy white clouds. Simply Chamber of Commerce beautiful! We had a nice relaxing morning, then out for a couple errands. When we got home we went for a looooooong walk on Riverwalk. It was just so nice we kept going and going. I can feel it in my shins, but it just felt so good to be outside. About halfway home, we stopped at the outside bar next to the Convention center and had a Bloody Mary and just watched boats and people. It was just such a great afternoon. It was particularly fun because my current office can be seen from where we sat and I mentioned to Charlie that in a week I'll be able to say, "I used to work there!" and it felt so nice to be able to say that.

When we came home, we fixed an amazing dinner of Grilled Filet's, baked potato's and fresh sauteed spinach, with fresh garlic and sauteed onions. Yummmmmm!

I have not idea what I'm going to do at work tomorrow. I'm just going to try to look busy as I don't want anyone to know what's up.

I hope you had a great Sunday!

Rod-you're not going to be able to help the grin you're going to have all week. It's like when you're a senior in high school, and they say you have Senioritis! Your day sounds wonderful. It was 35 here, and everybody acted like it was a warm spring day. I can't wait to be able to take Lily for long walks at the park again.

Marcy-that kitchen you posted was awesome! I grew up in a house built in 1961. My parents bought it in 1962 and are still there. I remember the kitchen before it was remodeled, and it sure resemble the one you posted! Our bathroom had pink countertops and grey & pink ceramic tile walls. Groovy! Matt hasn't looked at our taxes yet. He's hoping we break even, but I swear we always owe!

I slept so well last night...from 1am until 9am without waking up. I usually wake up every hour or two, so I feel so rested today. I must have worn myself out to have slept so long. We got out in the slush today while it was above freezing. We had 15 inches of snow, then sleet and freezing rain, and then 2 inches of rain. It's a mess out there, and tomorrow is going to be really cold again. Boo winter! I worked on project work for about 3 hours this afternoon and did a few loads of laundry. We went to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. They always treat us so well because they know Matt is learning Spanish, and they like to converse with him and give him pronunciation tips. We stopped by Lowes and I got way too many paint swatches. I'll never be able to decide on a color for the kitchen! Have a wonderful Monday!!

I posted this last year, but it's still so true!
