Wow that is just awful. What is wrong with these people!

cleo- so sorry that you have to deal with such an awful situation! that''s terrible. it shocks and scares me to think that they''d A) do such a shoddy job and B) let that out the door and not own up to it/acknowledge the problems with the setting! did they think you wouldn''t notice?? the prong isn''t even touching the stone! geez! i''m sure you''ll get it all sorted out soon. definitely don''t let them get away with it!

Well, I am SOOO excited and positive about getting this sorted out, now that I have a good photo of the worst prong (thanks to Ellen's suggestion of doing it through the loupe!).

I'm going to get pics of the other prongs too, which have also been butchered and left badly finished on the inside as well (even if they do actually manage to touch the diamond!).

I just know that there is no arguing with photographic evidence - and that picture shows clearly what an appalling job has been done.

It's funny, but stood in the B&M, under their lights and using their loupe I knew it was bad but I couldn't tell exactly how bad. Interestingly, I struggled to find the laser inscription on the girdle too whilst I was in there, although I spotted it eventually.

It just goes to show that when you are being dazzled by the blinding spotlights of a B&M, with rainbows flying off in every direction, exactly how much you CAN'T see - even with a loupe.

Pyramid - your experience sounds awful, I'm so sorry you had such a sucky job done on your ring.

Any clues as to who bodged it, so I can give them a wiiiiide berth in future? HS? EJ? BB? GS? :)

Idreamofice - Thanks for posting! I could go to the store in person, but I want to do it all in writing from now on so that I generate a paper-trail which I can use in court if I end up having to issue a summons against them.

Storm - Heheheh! Shocking isn't it? Now I have a photo of it, I oddly don't mind, because it's obvious to everyone how bad it is - rather than trying to get someone to squint down a loupe and convince them it's awful, when it kind of looks OK by eye. Bet you've never seen anything that bad before!

Maisie - great suggestion, thankyou. :) I'm a bit of a consumer rights demon and have loooooads of experience in taking people to court for various things (work and personal) so I'm very happy with doing it. I appreciate your suggestion & suuport though!

I've emailed that photo to the store as well today... just as an extra bit of ammo. :)

Watch this space...

Cleo, I feel really bad about your ring. But to reiterate what everyone else is saying, good for you for taking steps to control the situation and not the other way around.

Yay Cleo! Way to take charge! That photo is shocking! I''m glad that you''re a consumer rights demon! As Ellen said, Go get ''em!

I have finally had a response from the B&M via email.

They have said that they are "sorry that the work we have done is not to my satisfaction and would like to take this opportunity to assure you that we are keen to resolve the situation to my satisfaction".

Rather than replacing the ring mount with a new one, they have offered to get a new head fitted to the shank (by different people, not the workshop that trashed it originally!).

My ring is formed from one piece of 18kt gold, rather than a separate head & shank - and so I have emailed them back and told them that I don''t want to risk having something added to make it look similar to the way it did before, just in case I don''t like it (again), and that I would prefer to start again with a brand new, identical, ring mount.

Of course, this will be more expensive for them, as I didn''t actually buy the mount from the B&M - but that''s not really my problem!

As I said to my fiance, I just want the original mount I chose & love.. not some fixed-up "Frankenring". ;)

At least they are talking to me about it now, and hopefully I will get there eventually.

Thanks for all your support!

Cleo, thanks for the update. Let us know what they say.

Wow, Cleo! I''m sorry you''re going thru such an ordeal! I hope it gets resovled soon.

I have to say, your "Frankenring" comment made me chuckle. I''ve never heard it put that way.

Cleo, I''m so sorry to hear about your ring! But at least they sound like they''re trying to work with you, so hang in there. Be strong and don''t give in!!

It was BB.
