Hi all. Back from a short vacation down to Florida for a wedding and a trip to the bf''s mom. All seemed to go well, I even tried on a ring in front of her and she seemed happy!

So, I never really considered an assher cut for some reason. I mean, they are ridiculously beautiful, but I kind of like more traditional... or so I thought. The bf, his mom and her bf were at an antique show on Friday night. There was lots of jewelry there to say the least. We all gathered around this one display because the bf''s mother saw this beautiful ring she wanted to try on. In the same case was the biggest, most beautiful assher cut I have every seen. It was an 8+ carrat assher with bullet sidestones. It looked so nice on my hand. Not like a doorknob which is what I thought such a big ring would look like. So, down to the question... the ring was extremely sparkly, which asshers and emeralds are not known for. I was wondering if people could post pictures of their assher rings and let me know if they are sparkly or if this one was just because of the size and lighting?

Thanks for all of your help!

I would say that a well cut asscher has its own sparkliness. Not that I have had many opportunities to look at the one waiting for me in a drawer somewhere, but when I have looked at it, it is very sparkly....just in a different way than a RB. Even my boyfriend says that it sparkles and is brighter than other bigger flashier rings he has seen.

One problem is that it is REALLY hard to catch the sparkles on film...so pics don''t really show what they look like. And asschers that are not well cut can looklike clear glass. Even well cut stones have a bit of that glass appearance, but when light catches those facets it can sparkle like crazy! And I would love to try on an 8 carat!

I''ve tried on a few asschers (thanks, Daniel K, you enabler you) and the ones I''ve seen are SPARK-LY. Sparkly like a glassy lake with the sun hitting it, vs. a crystal chandalier, if that makse sense? Serious sparkle, but in a more subdued way. I love it. I think it depends a lot on cut--with asschers, the symmetry and polish are VERY important and I would always try to find ex/ex. Just look at Lovey''s, JenWill''s, Orangehorse''s.....there''s some bling in thar hills!

8 carat with bullets? Holy chi wa wa.

hmmmmm. Is the asscher sparkly? ummm. YES!!!! And what I love so much about this cut is that, the more you look at it, the more you can see all the little sparkles on the inside. It is incredibly sparkly. Restaurant and Shopping center lighting seem to be the best. RBs are gorgeous, but IMO their sparkle is so intense that you tend to look AWAY from the stone rather than more deeply into it..(does this make sense). Oh my, I was just re-reading my post and I sound like a SE lunatic. Can''t help myself.

I went e-ring shopping with a girlfriend of mine this weekend. She was worried that, while shopping for her new ring I would find one that I liked better than mine.

I don''t think she needs to worry...................... :)

Lovey, perfect description (and you should know!!)--the asscher concentric squares'' sparkles draw your eye IN whereas a brilliant cut''s sparkles draws your eye OUT.

(Thank you so much for your pm, too, m''dear

Your friend has nothing to worry about--that''s a living heirloom on your left hand!!! I can''t imagine your ever seeing one to replace it!

The problem Ammayer is.......now that you''ve perhaps joined the SE fanatic crowd......will you have to have an 8 carat one as well?

I don''t know what I''m going to do now... I like so many types of rings. I love split shanks. I love rb with pear sidestones. I love cushion with bullets. And now I love this asscher with bullets. I saw a fantastic emerald with a pave band -- it was almost square in shape. But the bf doesn''t like pave bands b/c he thinks it takes away the attention from the center stone. He also loves super sparkly which surprised me so much when he loved this asscher.

He said to me, ''wouldn''t you be uncomfortable wearing such a big ring?'' UM, NO! It will never happen but it was fantastic to put on!
