Help between two diamonds

Hello,
After a lot of umming and ahhing and amending my expectations I’ve narrowed it down to these two stones. Can someone please take a look and explain to me why the bigger diamond is cheaper? I’m also concerned the bigger diamond certificate is from November 2019 and is still in their inventory. Does this mean something might be wrong with the stone? Finally, could someone please take a look at the inclusion plots to see if any major issues as the plots look quite messy to me. Thank you!!

They're so similar they could be a pair of earrings. This one is my favorite but I dont have much of a reason. Just looks a little cleaner
under the table (even though both are eye-clean so doesnt really matter). Both are beautiful stones and neither would be a bad choice
(not much help am I?):)

Im still a newbie here.. but my 2 cents..

A diamond sitting inventory for a year doesn’t mean it’s a bad stone or price, many sit much longer. The increased cost could be due to the cost of acquisition for the company or any other number of reasons.. I wouldn’t be overly concerned with that either.

I definitely like option 2 the most.. comparing the diamond photo, the second is nice and bright throughout, where the first is darker throughout the middle area. Comparing the aset images; the first option, you can see many black marks around all the main stars of the diamond, perhaps that’s associated with the larger table? The images on the AGS report are also much cleaner for the second one, and it’s a new stone that has the new additional photo. (AGS images can look skewed if the diamond is tilted at all but I do like seeing a nice clean one like option 2)

Regardless of what opinions you get here, I think you would find it helpful to have a side by side photo /video from white flash so you can better compare the options. If color is important to you, perhaps one is a bit more colorless than the other.

I would ask WF to photograph those two side by side and upside down so you can compare them. I’d go with the brighter H, if one is higher than the other. In the pictures, the 3.088 looks brighter to me.
As for the price difference, I think they are priced when they are added to inventory. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about with a 2019 certificate. The market for 3 carat stones isn’t huge.

Thank you everyone. I have asked WF to take some pictures and videos of the stones next to each other.

Based on the pictures, do both the stones look eye clean (from any distance, not just WF definition which is from a distance of 10 inches).

from the images provided, i feel that 3.088 appears to have the stronger aset image and idealscope image.

for the fairest comparison, have whiteflash provide images and video clip of the two stones side by side.

Make sure you put stones you are seriously considering on hold. We have tons of lurkers who snatch up stones that posters are considering :(

If you are between two choices, put both on hold (if possible) and have WF take side by side pics.

What the!! Thank you for the advice. I guess I snooze I lose :o

Next time just put cropped pictures and specs (without exact Ct just the dimensions) they need to put more effort into looking so the diamond you’re considering is not an easy target.

Wow, that's kind of incredible that they had three stones so close to the same specs! Good thing for you since one sold!

I'd have them pull these two and tell you which is the cleanest and whitest. Both are great cuts and they are the same size, so color and clarity can make the decision for you if one is slightly whiter or cleaner than the other. And I agree with putting the top two choices on a temporary hold until they can help you compare them.

Oh, and to answer a question you asked above, diamond prices will vary based on the time they bought each stone. Prices go up and down so the price per carat may not be the same on each stone with similar specs.

hello everyone. So whiteflash has come back to me with their opinion. I am still waiting on pictures and videos of the stones.

Brightness - the same
Clarity - stone A fares better than stone B. Stone B has a white inclusion that may be visible if you know what to look for.
Whiteness - stone A has a tinge more brownness to it from the side view. It is not apparent from the top

Size and color are both the same

what stone would you lean towards based on this info only?

Both have their pros and cons. So hard to decide!

Well, I'd still likely have to wait and see the pictures. I am not sure that info sways me one way or the other.

Thanks. That’s true. I find it very hard to tell diamond color from pictures.
I feel like I have looked everywhere and only whiteflash seem to have in stock 3 carat stones that are within my budget. Ideally I would like to spend less than $50k for the stone only.

OP, I would put on hold of the one you like more, because at this time, due to Holiday season, covid, limited stone being supplied, cutter not able going to work couple months ago, etc I found that our option is very limited. I myself is looking for a near 3ct stone but so far have no luck because I don’t have many option to begin with. So if you found a stone that most likely you wanted to buy, put it on hold first while thinking. As you know nowhere else at this time have 3cts stone under $50k and WF only have 2 left. Unless you’re ok with waiting couple more months, its better put 1 stone on hold, those 2 are really the last super ideal stones under I color available right now

Thanks, I agree there is not much stock. I am not in a rush tho so if those stones are not satisfactory I can wait. What specs are you after? You can contact HPD for a custom cut. They seem quite busy lately tho

I’m looking either 2.5ish G or 3ct I, or in between it, 2.8 H, whichever can fit my budget. I contacted HPD but they said there’s no rough stone for me at the moment.

Did you try Victor Canera or Brian Gavin? I’ve never seen BG stones, but others can weigh in. I did consider a 2.5 G SI1 last week at Victor Canera. The stone was very nice and the inclusions were very hard to see and I had to look through the loupe. I bought a different stone from Victor Canera only because the 2.5 was a bit too large for what I wanted. I think he also has a 2.8– but I can’t remember

Did you get a look of the 2.8? How was it?

Whiteflash has a few 3 carat I colors. There’s also an I SI1 for a pretty good price I think. Have u seen 3 carat I in person? What do you think of the tint? My current ring is 2 carat I color and I’m really happy with it. Not sure how it would look at 3 carats tho

Yes I know they have 2 3ct I color, I got a picture of the I Si1 compared to the J I got (then returned), you can see the attached picture on the Thread I made. I didn’t got one of them because I want <61.5 depth. I don’t want 62, its just personal preference. I never see an I in person, but I do notice a well cut diamond hide color pretty well! I saw J color in person, and I noticed that under some lighting it appears white, although it does show color under white light. I think I’ll be OK with I after I saw the J.

did you get in touch with Victor Canera? I’m just wondering what you thought of his stones?

Yes I did, but I just noticed that the only 2 diamond left for me to choose both have old dated certificates, so I really think I should wait till February.

This hurts a lot actually... So, for years I’ve been saving money specially, to buy a diamond. As a full time housewife with no income, I need to find out a way for me to get a diamond that I want without asking my DH for it. So, I save by buying stocks, a little bit at a time, for example Tesla, apple, Roku, etc. got them wayyyy less than what they are right now, then till the moment I finally saved enough money, I sold them all, I waited till I thought I found a diamond that I want to get and til the last minute I needed to pay for it. But then, I got no diamond to buy and those stocks prices increased A LOT since I sold them... Like a whole lot! This feeling really really makes me crazy.... It really hurts

sorry OP for hijacking your thread... I need to vent...

Awww. Well good things come to those who wait! It’s annoying though when we have the cash ready and there’s no stock!!! Will there be new stones in feb you think?

Hello everyone. It is down to these four. Can the experts please take a look at these pictures and give their opinions?

I think they should get new inventory before Valentines but with this Covid going on there’s a chance they won’t be getting them before Valentines. I asked HPD and they said they’re in the process purchasing new rough and probably it’ll come in around January and they’ll got them in the States roughly around mid Feb (means after Valentines). Other vendors maybe the same, I think they should eagerly getting more inventory, coz their sales will drop a lot if they have nothing to offer like now. If I were them, I’ll be anxious and will try hard to get more inventory as they don’t have many option with diamond 2.5ct-3ct under $40k, and if you notice, there’s none of G/H VS2 combination of super ideal diamond available anywhere right now and here we are trying to buy diamond at this exact moment.. I was just thinking to get GIA 3ex and go to Bluenile and rare carat, but even that, they also don’t have many option... what a time...

Edit: I’m no expert, at the first look out of your picture I’ll pick no2 from the left. Unless those blue reflection means good thing

Can some PS experts please kindly explain what does those blue reflections on the far left and far right means? Thank you!

Yes it’s been almost a year. Businesses will just need to adapt to the new covid normal. Hopefully they get some new stock soon. If you are not color sensitive I would just get the bigger stone. The J stones are such good prices!

I’m leaning towards that stone you picked too but it’s a bit of a price jump. I don’t even know if visually there will be a big difference but at the moment that one is the most “mind clean” for me!
