Help deciding on an old cut line bracelet….

@bee24 in case you want to return both and go crazy:

I have been watching this one! But it’s too far out of my price range, sadly.

Edit to add: this is a perfect example of one of the reasons I’m thinking of keeping the 3.5ctw bracelet. The stones in the 10ctw bracelet are bigger but just a tad bigger than the ones in the one I have currently 4.3mm vs 4mm. If the one I have spun a lot it would be a no brainer but the diamonds are almost always front and center. But truly the 10ctw is a work of art…sighhhh.

Yanno if you keep the 3.5 you could collect 4mm stones and convert it to to a full bracelet in the future. That’s what I might do but I like a little collection project like that.

If the other one doesn’t rotate, then it sounds like you have a winner!

Hahaha don't do it. It costs a fortune to set. Better off finding one that's already made.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I'm not sure about that. If you collect your own stones, I think DK would set them in the existing links and doubt it would be a fortune. Not cheap, but really not out there. I think it would be a fun project to look for the stones from places like Recycled Gems. It might take some time, but it would keep me from buying other things while on the hunt.

My thought is the links are there. Just need to be drilled and bead set. I think the cost is in casting a whole new link/basket for each diamond… is that what you were envisioning would be $$ @maryjane04? Casting new links/baskets for each new stone?

Oh sorry haha I thought you meant a new bracelet. But yes if existing links are there then it's not that much. Lol my bangle is going to cost too much that it's cheaper to buy an existing bracelet lol. But yes casting new links/baskets/bezels will cost a lot for an entire piece.

I thought maybe that’s what you meant!

I’ve been pondering whether it’s worth finding a lovely antique bracelet without diamonds… just metal… and adapting it… I wish I knew someone who had done that!

Oh my god so that's what I've been doing but more looking for a gold bangle shell. The issue is it has to fit and relatively inexpensive. I've been looking for gold with paste stones. It's worth investigating!

I was thinking the exact same thing.

The seller actually suggested this during our messaging/offer/counter offers! He thought it would be easy in future for me to add stones. I do think that would be a fun project, I really do love having something to plan/search!

I had this thought before while searching or converting a brooch to a bracelet. I hope you do it in the future. We all know you know how to collect a perfect set of stones!

Don’t enable me lol! This would take five-evah

Well DK was able to give me a loose estimate. He said it would be around $1200 for 5 links of platinum and 14k gold added to the small bracelet with no diamonds. I’m not sure if that includes the engraving.

For the large bracelet it would be around $350 to take one or two links out and fix a couple areas of damage. He said it would be $450-$500 for a .25 G/VS oec. Though I do think/hope I could find one on eBay for less, it also definitely doesn’t need to be G as the existing stones are a range.

I’m very thankful he was able to give me an estimate as I was really unsure on cost! Now I just have to decide!

Just out of curiosity, I have been searching for any information on the history of the bracelets. Nothing comes up when I search the engravings on the smaller bracelet but the flower pattern does come up in my search. Here is one on eBay a Hamilton watch, the links look very close, though the profile is different.

Anyone have any input on Hamilton jewelry or ideas on how to find more information on my bracelets based on the engravings? Thanks!

Is a J with faint fluor too low? It's an I1 because of a feather, but otherwise looks really clean and lively. And the seller accepts returns.

This is a nice option.

This seller has diamonds this size range pretty often. If you keep an eye out daily I think another will come up that you like if the clarify bugs you.

Ooo I think that’s a great option, thank you! I definitely don’t mind the J or the faint fluorescence. The stones range in color a bit and two have quite a bit of fluorescence which I find fascinating! The I1 gives me a bit of pause but it looks nice and chunky compared to pancake Dudley.

If you keep it I’d just live with Dudley until the perfect option comes up. What are Dudley’s measurements?

Here's one just under 4mm for $224 H VS1.

I feel like that seller recently lowered his diamond prices bc I always found them over priced before but I’ve seen a few today that were better priced.

I think this diamond has leakage though judging by the pictures and the proportions on the GIA— it’s a pretty big table for that depth.

Dull Dudley is about 4 x 4.2 It’s very hard to measure but the depth is like 1.6mm lol.

Based on my measurements, the stones all range from about 4mm to 4.3mm so Dudley is on the wider end but there are a few a touch larger. One of the stones next to Dudley isn’t the loveliest either, I think I see a fish eye? Which does annoy as they are both in the center but my eye doesn’t immediately snag on it compared to Dudley. It is interesting to be able to see so many different flavors of old cuts in the bracelet! I added some pictures for fun, though it’s so hard to take pics.

I’m unfortunately still deciding…

Love the variety! I don't think ol' Fishy is even an old cut but I can't quite tell. Probably a recent addition. That plus Dudley, if you keep it, I might ask for a price adjustment.

I agree when I first saw it I thought it was modern, still could be, it looks like there is a teeny tiny culet? Regardless it does not match the others.

I didn’t realize you could ask for a price adjustment. I might do that. There is damage that wasn’t apparent in the pictures either, nothing serious but still. I don’t think it would have passed the authorization but it did not go through that process. The stones are listed as H-I but at least one seems darker, it’s listed as over 8 inches but it’s just over 7, and the damage. Pre tax it was 5,900, I’m not sure how lower he’d go but I’ll look into it.

Oh I always inquire about price adjustments if it is not as described like this! I have gotten between 15% and 20% back in every case. I often start with an email like: "I really like the bracelet but I am concerned about some things that are not as described but which affect the value of the piece. For example, one of the diamonds is very poorly cut and looks dull compared to the others (see attached picture), the bracelet is shorter than described (just over 7" versus 8"), and there in some damage to the XYZ. I'm not sure how I want to proceed." And then I see what they say! Usually they offer a partial refund in my experience but if not, you can get a sense of where they are at.

@Dreamer_D that’s really helpful, thank you! Do you still think the fisheye one is modern?

Impossible to say. It has a little culet but it looks like an early modern brilliant to me, circa 1950s perhaps. The diamonds range from early OECs through to that early MRB so it’s a real mush mash! Or maybe most are from a similar era and there’s just one or two from a later era?
