Help!! Did we over pay for a 1ct. Leo daimond ring? ??

THANK YOU EVERYONE! I will diffinetly call Kay's Jeweler today and ask for a return.
Which would you all recommend, Blue Niles or James Allen?
Had anyone bought from them and how is the financing situation?
Again, thank you all. I will keep everyine updated.

Well, let's just put it this way.... James Allen is now owned by the same company that owns Kays / Zales / Jareds. When they were bought out (within the last year) they stopped putting GIA certificates on their web site. Enough said, surely?

If you want to maximize your budget, go with Blue Nile.

Wanted to point out that PS has a diamond search engine that lets you filter/ sort. I just bought 4 diamonds using that thing. I personally really like that tool.

My husband and i recently purchased a Solitaire Leo daimond ring from Kay for 6g.
After purchasing the ring, we came home and i did some research on Kays Jeweler and Leo brand.
I am feeling like we got ripped off. The ring isn't fully 1ct. Its 0.97ct. Certified by GIA, clairty is si2, color H, cut is Good.
Did we get ripped off? Can we get a refund? The ring is in the process of getting resized.
I'm just really bugged by how many bad reviews and rip off stories I've found online with Kays jewelry.
I don't want to over pay for something that isn't worth that much. Help please? Ty

Good luck! And, hopefully, you paid by credit card so you might have more recourse if they are being difficult.

Sorry this happened and I’m glad you can get a refund. I have nothing but good things to say about James Allen. They have an online chat where you can request any GIA or AGS certificates to be emailed to you. I requested about seven of them! We bought my original engagement ring and now are upgrading and they have been great to deal with.

Definitely go in there with your receipt and initiate the return today. They could refuse to refund the setting if it has already been sized, but I hope not. Calling isn't good enough.

Then come back here and start a new thread for help choosing a new diamond. Once you decide on the diamond we can help you see if that vendor has a setting you like. There are vendors who charge less than JA and BN, so let's see once you come back and tell us if you were able to get the full refund. They will try hard to keep your business, but I can promise you that we can help you find a better quality diamond for a better price than they can offer.

UPDATE!!!
Yay! We got a return! Thank you so much to everyone for your help.
Niw lets start shopping!

So glad you were able find PS and do this before it was too late!

I’m so relieved. Follow the advice here. They will get you a much more beautiful and sparkly and clean diamond for that same amount of money.

Yay, what wonderful news. With your budget, you can get so much more ring!

I'm glad you can return it and did. That's great. However, not to be a wet blanket, I would not finance jewelry. I would buy what you can afford in one lump sum and if that's less than the ideal size, I'd go with a vendor with a good upgrade policy.

Awesome!!! You found PS just in time! Please start a new thread and mention your budget and shape of diamond you want. I am sure you'll get lots of help!

Blue Nile appears to have longer periods ( up to 12 months for most diamonds) with no interest.

Most offer financing from what I can see. Some just have interest free terms and others do not.

OKay, I found a pretty beautiful diamond, and they offer financing, but no interest free months, apparently. It's just the best one I have found so far within the budget of the first ring leaving some room for a setting.

Nice one over 1 ct at the top of your budget. Maybe could work with an inexpensive solitaire setting.

It's almost impossible to look on James Allen because they don't allow us to see the GIA reports.

They do take PayPal; PayPal credit generally offers 6 months zero interest on purchases. Just a thought in case they don’t want to finance through a jeweler.

So tell us about your diamond wishes. What kind of setting are you dreaming about? Some of us love to help shop.

Daimond setting with solitaire. 1ct or a little more. 5-6g budget

How about color? I bought my small solitaire .82 (a 2nd e-ring I bought from me, for me) at Ritani. I love their solitaire settings. But my budget was tiny. SO TINY. I will upgrade later...but in this story, I stretched the budget by buying a lower color (J). This is not everyone's cuppa tea though, just something to keep in mind. I'd be happy with an M, but that's just me. A good cut with a good HCA score will do wonders to reflect light and hide lower color for many people (and arguably fluorescence can be great too) ...but not everyone. Several here can see color and it is not a welcome sight at all. We're all different. What REALLY matters is that when you look at your finger, you are thrilled.

The diamond search on Pricescope that Winnie Tucker pointed out is a great thing because it does show the HCA score during diamond search.

If I had your budget, I would check this 1.11 VS1 L CBI out...but it's an L...a noticeable tint. You bought a LEO because you wanted performance, and there are many vendors with good cuts that can get you to a fine cut, a good clarity (eyeclean) which you probably did not have with the Si2. There are threads around with CBI diamonds, they are knock outs. However, there are other knock outs too. It's fun to look at possibilities.

So happy you could return it!

For illustration purpose why I have not bought any significant jewellery in the UK due to crazy prices:

Ohhh Noooooo. I am so sorry for you. That price is robbery.

I would prefer something in between D-H if possible.

So those settings you posted on that other thread are probably around $1k each. Does that mean you have $5k for the 1 carat (or more) D-H?
Or is the $6k for the stone alone and you have another budget for the setting?

OOPS, I didn't know the OP had two threads open.

Actually the 6k is what im looking at for my total. Daimond and setting.

I don’t understand. Because JA doesn’t provide the GIA certifications without request what does that mean? I’m aware that JA is owned by the same parent company however their prices and choices are light years ahead of anything available prepackaged at any of their sister companies. Am I missing something ?
