Good news: I ordered a EG diamond that looks like a similar cut. It is beautiful and the cut would be perfect for this project.
The EG one is 1.05 ct (K, VS1 GIA) and 7x5mm; for the right look, the ring will probably need a 9x6 LGD center stone which could be 2.5-3 ct. Check out the below rad Stuller mock-up of 7x5 vs. 9x6:
Might ask around for estimates on a custom cut. Will undoubtedly get sticker shock, then save up a few years.
The EGD is very pretty and I intend to keep it. Ideas for settings? I always wanted a 5-stone bullet/trap setting and thought someday I would get a LGD elongated cushion to make a ring, but maybe this EGD would be a good candidate.
One other solution might be to use this 7x5 EGD as the center among other illusion-set stones to bump the center up to 9x6.
Im fine with mixing EGD and LGD for this project.
