Hi all,
I have been lurking amongst you all for a while and am ready to come out of hiding! I am on the hunt for a 7.5mm +- oec of the likes of Dreamer and Demelza, Fortekitty and all the other amazing old cut diamond owners on here! I have a budget of roughly 8000.00 but want to spend less if possible?!!!

Anyone seen any good finds on eBay lately?
I have a beautiful antique platinum setting just languishing in my drawer waiting for the perfect stone...if I can figure out how to upload pics I will show you

Anyways,
Please help!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Welcome to PS as a poster!!!
Congrats on your choice for OEC!

You can try Adam at old world diamonds, as many can vouch for him. He has a ton on the website :77pages. He also has some that are NOT on the website. Other vendors- good old gold has a small number, JbEG has a few.
However, my experience with Adam has not been that great. Maybe my project is on the small side 5-6mm.
Also try louptroop, diamond bistro...Am sure others will chime in.
Good luck with the search.

Enjoy!

Well thank you both, that is a beautiful ring.

..I am looking for a k or higher color though as I have never seen a lower color IRL so not sure what they look like or if I will like the tint...

I have been in touch w/ OWD and they have one I am considering...

I just know the peeps on here seem to have amazing taste and are super sleuths for a good deal ( I seem to always be a day late and dollar short!)

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

I think perhaps that price point and desired color, at that minimum size, might be a challenging find. Buying retail will be nearly impossible. I've not got anything on my watch list on ebay that would suit, but if I were you I'd be checking on there daily. And rubylane too.

Good luck, there are definitely special stones out there that you'll find with time and dedication!

Ok, this a low-bulge cushion, but it meets your other requirements of budget, color, and size. And also have to ask JA if it displays broad flashes.

A round of 7.5 mm diameter is 44.18 mm^2
This baby is 7.26x7.05. It's not a perfect rectangle, and I am too lazy to figure out how much is missing, but chopping off 14% for corners would put you equivalent to the 7.5 round, and I guess it has less than 20% corners... Anyway, it's in the ballpark.

I wouls maybe go see a lower color diamond in person. Not just because I think thus oreloved one is great, but also your budget will fit betterwith lower color range

Don't rule out Ls, I have one in an old cut and am very surprised it isn't more tinted. I mean a GIA L that is. Old cuts are more forgiving in the lower color ranges for facing up whiter.

Yeah for those cuts I actually like l-O vs k. The coloring seems more deliberate

I think it would be worth actually seeing one before you rule them out kwim?

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Are you prepared to brave ebay on your own? It is not for the fainy of heart. It took me a long time to work up the courage! if you are, you might be able to find what you want for your budget -- well, I know you can find stones that size for that budget, but the color may be the sticking point.

From trusted retailers you wont get over the 1.5ct mark (around 7.2mm) for that budget in that color range.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

This is an estate seller, so lower risk. I think the cut on this OEC is perfect. Bigger than you want, but I would not let a setting determine the diamond (too limiting). GIA graded J VS2. Call them and negotiate on the price, its been for sale for a long time. Resell the mount. Brings you in on budget. Snap it up.

right? i actually love the setting too!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

I assume you want a GIA K, right? I don't have anything in my saved lists that match your criteria. Higher colors in a larger diameter are usually pretty hard to find!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Dreamer
Thanks for stopping in, your ring is my dream ring!
I actually have the eBay 2.16 on my watch list! I so love the mounting I have though, that I am willing to wait for the right stone... I am more than willing to tough out the eBay world too to get what I want. I have been watching a very icy one for a while that I would love your opinion on... But don't want to say on here where it is etc, just in case :loopy:

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

And hello Fortekitty! Another of my favs! I know what I want is far fetched... But a girl can hope right!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Backwards,
I would love to see pics of your oec at it's most colored and least... And what you "normally" see every day!!! I actually have a Gia L picked out by Adam at OWD... But am sooo nervous about the color as I have never seen one IRL! That being said my current tiny RB is a J for a big chain store...so who knows what it really is. But I don't mind it

Any chance you could just save the pics to your computer and post them so yoi dpnt have to post any links?
That way you won't have to tell any lurkers where it is

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Good idea... Ummm now how do I load one from my iPad!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Oh and my setting will hold anywhere from a 7-8mm stone so... Not to restricting, I just like around 7.5mm best in it :)

Dreamer: that stone would actually work but I have emailed them on other occasions and not only would they not come down in price but they Raised the price on the auction I was inquiring about!! And that ring is still on eBay also...not very friendly Either.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

This one looks like it could work, but you would definitely need better pictures and some more precise measurements.

http://www.rubylane.com/item/474691-x28NNN36x29/fine-antique-DIAMOND-CLUSTER-RING

Also be aware that Ruby Lane has a blanket policy on returns that includes a restocking fee, so if you want to try it out, you might also want to set some pretty specific terms with the seller.

Good luck!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Ruby59- that is so beautiful! I have it on my watch list, alas it is too far out of my budget. Definitely a dream stone though!

Mercoledi- that might be worth looking in to, thanks for the info on fees also

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

That ring I linked is through an estate seller and their listing says to call them to inquire about BIN pricing on auctions. I would personally call if you are really interested. It is not a good appoach to rely only on messaging on ebay with many sellers, they do not take things seriously as they likely get one million messages through ebay. And besides, that price is very very good for a 1.86ct J VS2 with a GIA report in my opinion. You would be hard pressed to do better. Just my 2c. But go with your gut.

Lurkers, someone call that ebay seller for that GIA JVs2 I linked. I would pursue it myself if I was in the market. ETA: Caveats: buy at own risk, call and talk to seller, cover all your bases first etc etc etc.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

By the way, when you said you like my ring, do you mean the size and style or do you mean the cut specifically? Because if you want a stone cut like mine, then its a whole different search.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Hi dreamer,

I like the cut of your stone but I know ( from scouring your old posts) it is a rare find, tranny....I also love a lot of the old euro cuts on here though and know there are more of those around.

I may try the phone route on that ring... But like you said it is already a good price...just out of my range unfortunately :(

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Well, you can change your parameters 8) Smaller, or more tinted, or increase budget, or spend about a year scouring ebay daily (my own experience)... thems the options!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

I might have found one. are you online? Message me thru one of my DB sale links and I'll send it to you. It seems like a pretty good deal so I don't want a random lurker getting it if it's something you want.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

You better email Fortekitty! The diamond she found is perfect for you it seems. Very pretty!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

I'm late to this party but I hope that FK found you something fantastic (with her awesome taste it's quite likely). Can't wait to see!
