Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Hi Mara and Charmypoo thanks for stopping by! I am super excited to finally be on here! You all are so helpful.

I have been reading up on PS for a long time and finally have saved / got the hubby's buy in to upgrade to a true antique...which I adore!

This is an estate seller, so lower risk. I think the cut on this OEC is perfect. Bigger than you want, but I would not let a setting determine the diamond (too limiting). GIA graded J VS2. Call them and negotiate on the price, its been for sale for a long time. Resell the mount. Brings you in on budget. Snap it up.

O.K. did a PS'er but this? :twirl:

Ooo - I sent the link to my hubby! Maybe a Valentines surprise?!

Just kidding. He's an amazing man but if he ever spent $10k on a diamond to surprise me I'd die of shock! He's too practical. But also practically perfect (lack of diamond surprises being his one regrettable flaw...). :)

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

The chunky cuts are 2 grades better looking whatever
their graded (GIA). See how this picked up the environment?
First one is in a pale yellow room. I can't believe I would like an
L-but not in a modern stone for me. GIA H is pushing it for me in
a modern Asscher, for instance. Also this stone bridges true OEC and
Modern round brilliant. Cut in 30's, 40's early modern, big table.

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

I actually owned the ebay 2.16 ring for about 2 weeks last summer. The stone was beautiful but a little too out of round for me. I took the setting to my local jeweler to have the prongs re-done because they were discolored. My jeweler told me the setting was essentially ruined because a non-matching solder was used in a previous repair. He said there was no other way to fix it except to cut off the basket and order a new one. He said it would be much cheaper to find a new setting. I emailed the seller and she offered to refund me $300 and later $500. If you love the stone then you might be able to talk her down more since the stone has been in their inventory for a while. It's a lovely diamond and I hope you love it!

I really considered that one, too, but I wasn't sure about that seller. It seems like at the time I looked, there looked like there were some conditions on returns, but maybe I have that confused with another ring. It's good to know someone's opinion who has actually seen the diamond. Visibly out of round would bug me, too. And that is why I may never find an old stone!

Ok, this a low-bulge cushion, but it meets your other requirements of budget, color, and size. And also have to ask JA if it displays broad flashes.
http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Cushion-cut/1.66-carat-K-color-IF-clarity-sku-104059

A round of 7.5 mm diameter is 44.18 mm^2
This baby is 7.26x7.05. It's not a perfect rectangle, and I am too lazy to figure out how much is missing, but chopping off 14% for corners would put you equivalent to the 7.5 round, and I guess it has less than 20% corners... Anyway, it's in the ballpark.

OMG! I thought they sold that awesome cushion ...faces up like a 2 carat and is an high K color....here's the link with the ASET...best deal on a low budget for a totally fantastic cushion brilliant:

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Hi all,

Well it was noy me that got the 2.16 eBay ring...

Backwards, Thanks for the pics, your stone is beautiful!

The cushion cut K I couldn't find on JA...

The ring FK showed me is amazing, setting and all- thank you FK...tough decision time!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Mis- read your post. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Sending dust your way.
Sounds like there is a but in your last statement about the ring FK showed you.
Hopefully, the PS dust will help consolidate what it is that you want and it translates to the ring that you have seen to make it easier for you to decide

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

So, I may have found a good stone/ deal on our local craigslist of all places...how to you take good pics of a diamond? Is there a thread already on that subject?

I know the price of the 1.66c cushion brilliant on JA was around $6400, which is excellent for a stone that faces up like a 2c.cushion.

I would call them because on the listing it shows "Price: unavailable"

I've never seen that before....price is unavailable. Check out the thread below cause it has the ASET on there.

I would certainly follow up with the manager level on this stone:

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Ariel, thanks for the link! Now I have to wait to get my ring back from the jeweler :(sad

And... Get a camera!
I am very excited and a little nervous!

I did call on the cushion cut Amazing stone...but yes it is sold :((

Then I almost went with FK's suggestion...since ...

I will not go with OWD since he completely quite responding to my questions and never showed me any lower price point stones just kept sending my the same stone at the very top of my budget when I asked... Maybe I'm not spending enough to be worth the time..I didn't get the most warm and fuzzy feel from him after I asked for options in a lower price, just to see the difference it would make.

Then! I check our local CL... ( never ever any old cuts around here). And found a listing for $9000 for a 2ct old euro men's ring.... And figured it was worth a shot since it is local and I could see it first hand! Well it was in a hideous giant gold setting and had more color than I really thought I wanted...( have since found out it is an L/M by Gia standards). But it was gorgeous, more of a tranny like Dreamers and I talked him down to $7000... So within budget and huge!

The jeweler has measured and it is
8.4 mm on average and 2.14 ct L/M, Si 1, In excellent shape w a clean girdle... Is this a decent buy?

Ummm for 7k? YES, I think so! Esp since you saw it in person before buying which is a great perk so you know you love the pattern. I can't wait to see what it looks like...I love a great transitional cut. Congratulations!

Re: Help finding OEC, calling Dreamer, Fortekitty, Mara...an

Thanks Mara!

I am super excited... They have to modify the setting to make it fit, so I am a little nervous. I haven't worked w this jeweler before but he has a good rep here so I am hopeful:)

I do love the pattern and wore it to work in a temp setting and it was crazy sparkly in the overhead florescent lighting... Yippee

Wish my daughter hadn't broken our camera so I could have gotten pictures of it... :((

I am hoping by Monday it will be done:)
