I just got engaged for about a month now. My finance proposed with a temporary setting because he didn't know what kinds of setting I would like. He wanted us to shop together and get something that I would like. We did but nothing stood out to me so we went with a pave diamond setting. Well last week we were in Chicago for a cirque du soleil and had to kill some time before the show.We stopped at a mall and I came across this jeweler that carries Tacori. I feel in love with their 2620 model. One slight problem my finance hates the whole halo look. He thinks it takes away from the center stone. So do i make him happy and keep my current setting or go with the ring that i want? As a little dream I've always dreamed of having a Tacori ring. I do like my setting alot. Its just missing the halo.

Personally, I love your ring the way it is! It looks big on your finger too which is a plus! But you are the one that needs to love it! Will he be terribly upset if you halo'd it? If so, I'd leave it as is and enjoy it!

funny because my DH also thought that, until i showed him my mom's leon mege halo ring that he suddenly gained an enormous appreciation... i do believe that a well done halo really enhances the center stone, no matter how large or small the center stone is.

If you have your heart set on a halo, i would urge you to get it, since you are the one wearing it for the rest of your life (or until the upgrade =) ), if you get something else, you will just keep yearning for one...

Judging the size of your diamond by the picture, I would say that you really don't need a halo. Although, I do love that Tacori setting and think it would be perfect for your stone without taking away from the beauty. I think you can't go wrong with whichever you decide.

That's a hard call because your ring is very beautiful just the way it is. The ring should be all you want it to be but his feelings have to be considered as well. Would buying another mounting be in the cards at this time? If not, you can always put it on hold for a bit and revisit the Tacori later.

This truly is a judgment call and the final decision has to be up to the two of you!

Honestly, coming from someone who loves halos, I think your ring is perfect as is. It really looks great on you.

I agree that your current ring is gorgeous and looks really big on your hand! I also love the Tacori setting, but I think it is best with stones smaller than yours. However, as others have said, only you can decide what you'll be happiest with!

i thought i post this picture of the two rings side by side. the tacori ring was store sample. they let me have it for a few days.

I also vote for keeping your current setting. It's beautiful and your stone is a nice size that doesn't really need enhancing with a halo.

I normally am always for the halo vs nonhalo. Especially if one feels that the center stone could be "helped" sizewise by a halo. But in your case, I love your ring. Did your fiance pick out the ring? Or did you? I think if he did, you should not push the issue. He clearly does not want to change it. You have a gorgeous ring and your fiance spent a lot of $ (if he paid for it). I think it would be hurtful if I bought my DH something so expensive and he loved it...until he saw something "better." If he never liked it, that is one thing. Just my opinion though ;))

it depends on your objective. if you want every person you pass to stop and stare at your hand, then get a halo. otherwise, your stone is massively huge and, in my opinion, a halo would make it over-the-top.

whatever floats your boat, but i like it just the way it is!

Guys thank you for all your feedbacks. They are very helpful.

To all of those who asked. My finance purchased a plain white gold setting with the diamond when he proposed. He told me it was temporary one until we find something I like. He knew that I've always wanted a Tacori ring and since they are special ordered only my finance wanted to make sure that when we do order it, its the one I wanted. For a month now we shopped all over looking for a setting but nothing stood out so my finance and i agreed to get the pave setting. something simple yet elegant for now until I found the ring i got to have. Well last wk we happened to stumble arcoss the tacori 2620. he doesnt like the halo around the center. well i like it. Not because it makes my center stone bigger but i love the detail around the center stone. It showcases the center stone. i also love the little details on the sides of the rings coming up to the halo. I guess my biggest problem is i dont like the side view of my ring. too much gold metal showing. its plain looking. I wish it had more detail and diamond on the sides of the shoulders. Maybe thats why i like the tacori so much.

go with your heart!

Ooops I forgot one more thing.

Because of the amount my finance spent on the diamond which is completely his decision. I offered to pay for my pave setting. The Tacori if I choose to go with, I too will be paying for it. I don't want him to spend anymore money then he already did.

I'm going against the popular vote and am voting for halo. Your diamond is big and gorgeous! But I don't think the current setting does it justice. I like the whole picture of a ring- diamond, setting, prongs, etc. That Tacori is absolutely gorgeous, I don't think would compete with your stone at all, and would frame your diamond perfectly.

I would keep the current setting - I think it looks beautifully proportioned! Looking at your comparison photo, you need to remember that your stone is considerably larger than the sample Tacori, and I think that putting the cushion shaped halo around such a large stone might make it look a bit "rocky" on the shank for my tastes...

But obviously it is up to you. It sounds like you have your heart set on the halo, so the only real question is if you can resolve it with your partner!

ok...I really like your current ring. I think it is beautiful and looks great on your hand

Your ring is very pretty and I like how it looks on your hand. But I do understand you wanting to halo it just to give it that last little something. The Tacori halo looks like a subtle halo. If your Fiance would go along I vote halo. Either way it's a gorgeous.

I really like your current setting as well.

If it's the detail of the Tacori line that you like so much, could you compromise and get a Tacori minus the halo? This way you'd get the detailling you want without the halo that your fiance doesn't love.

I say go for what you love!! Your current setting is very pretty, but that Tacori is GORGEOUS!!! And in the end, guys really dont care, so dont' worry about what he likes!!! Get what you like and what you want to wear on your finger!!!

PS- I just wanted to throw this setting out there to you- have you seen it? Its one of my favorite Tacori settings, with the cadillac side stones:

I agree!

I say no-halo. Your ring is gorgeous the way it is. I say get a pretty wedding band like you want.
In 5-years if you still want the halo then go for it! Chances are your DH wont care by then.

I say go with what you love..you're wearing it! :naughty:

I was gonna come here to tell you that BN has a setting similar to Frankie's for less dough: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-setting-platinum_7320 I have it and it's very blingy. BUT then I see that Tacori that was posted and wow! BUT I do think your ring is beautiful the way it is, and I really don't think you need a halo.

Either one would be great... But I'd also have to say go with the one you love! It was super hard for me to let my GF help pick out the setting because I felt I should be the one to pick it, since it was gonna be a symbol of my love and commitment to her...but then I realized that if I got her something she didn't really like her something she hated...she'd be wearing instead a symbol of regret and pride everyday...and I wanted her to LOOOOOVE it so I gave in and let her help pick! ring should be here today or tomorrow...I'll let you know if she still loves it!! Hahaha...on a side note, the setting she picked was the setting I was gonna pick anyway! So if she had just let me do it alone she still wouldve ended up with the ring she loved anyway!!!!

So basically...get what you love...because you'll be looking at it everyday! Plus if you will be paying for the setting then I'd say definitely go with what you love :)

BigPhilly808. Congrats. Please post pictures once you proposed. Anyways thanks for your advice. You're right I will be wearing it everyday so I should go with something that I love. This forum had me realized that maybe I should comprise with my finance and get something we both like. He says I can go with halo if that's what I want but just does like the tacori 2620. He doesnt like the milgrain on the outsides the diamond on the shoulder. he likes my current setting style with a halo. guys please let me know if you see something similar to this. I've researched this for about a wk now and just about to give up. I just want to be done.

Kristi, honestly, if your fiance had his heart set on a particular watch for himself would you tell him he shouldn't get it because you like another one better? I believe if you are to wear the ring the rest of your life, you should get a setting YOU love. Heck, he won't care down the road anyway! I like your diamond without a lot of embellishment, however, I do love the milgrain and engraving on Tacori rings. Have you looked at all the Tacori's? Just be sure there isn't one with a pretty side profile without the halo. You are wise to stick with a style with the solid metal band, though, because there have been problems with some of the cut-out bands like the crescent designs. You might want to search Tacori on this site to read what the problems have been. One caveat, never let anyone but Tacori touch the ring for sizing, repairs, etc. It can void the warranty if you do.
