Help! I'm lost in the land of re-setting!

....aaaaand that's my first choice! ;(

Back to the drawing board.... :wall:

It is a beautiful ring though mrs-b! You could always talk to Victor about making a band for you to go with that setting. I personally think this ring would look better with a large solitaire so you are on your way!

It's this ring, right? https://www.victorcanera.com/rings/graduated-shank-pave-solitaire

He can surely make a pave band to go with this ring - I just don't think that you can use your current wedding band with it. I feel confident that he can make you a wedding band to go with the ring.

Thanks, MGR! At least I'm down to three settings! :D

It will work out - you have decided on a stone and you will figure out the perfect setting for it! You have three beautiful choices to choose from!

I have a band sitting flush with mine! I've seen it this type of setting paired with Cartier trinity as well. I'm sure VC would be able to make something to pair with it.

Yup totally agree with @Akalahab . There are no diamonds in the donut or the prongs. I would think you could make a band to fit well with it. In fact, wouldn't any of the channel/bead set bands work with that ring? Is there a specific width or style of the band that you want?

I have a 2.5mm wedding band with milgrain. I'd want to use my actual band rather than having one made. I'm thinking this would make wearing it with a ring with a reverse taper diamond band easiest; ie the narrower and plainer the wedder, the better the fit...surely?

I have to say tho, I suspect this project will be stalled till Houston gets past Harvey; I dont see anyone getting into the WF office to mail me a shipping label for a few days yet - and maybe longer.

I think I need to step away from the process for a bit; I've started dreaming about rings!

So - in that vein - I'm going to set my stone in a CVB solitaire; her solis are lovely, but they're way cheaper than a VC - my other option - and I won't feel badly if I come back to it later for a reset. I'm going for a mixture of her lovely Abby, her Olivia, and some aspects of bands and angles she's posted. I'm not doing a dahlia (I think!) - but either way, it's going to be CVB at least for the short term.

I think that's a very wise decision until you DO know what you want!

Thanks @bright ice - I feel like I *do* know what I want to an extent - but it won't go with my eternity band - at all. So I'm going back and forth on whether I need to decide to give up the ideal plan of wearing all three together (wedder, eternity, e-ring), or whether I should do a different design for the e-ring. The alternate e-ring design is a CVB solitaire, so I'm going to go that route - since it's one of my options anyway - then decide whether I want to change it or not. What's the bet in 5 years I won't have changed it at all?! My eternity is very blingy, so that might be enough. I just would have liked a little more sparkle for the times I want to wear it with my wedding band, which is completely plain.

Anyway, I feel I can't go wrong with a CVB soli, so that's my path for now.

Have you gotten the go ahead to ship your stone to WF? I see from FB that their offices are open again although they may not be able to take deliveries yet.

I currently have the CVB Olivia setting and I found it to be very thin. I like a shank that is at least 2mm. I just thought you should be aware of that if you like a thicker shank.

@kayla17 - I appreciate the heads up. I do want a thicker shank. I find very thin shanks to be a bit like Kelly Ripa - very skinny body then a big bobble head. I like a slim band with a moderate or small stone, but at over 10mm, I'm looking for a reasonable amount of support from the shank of this ring. I've actually been considering a reverse taper, rather than a regular taper.

ETA Yesterday, I decided I DEFINITELY wanted the VC 3 stone with pears. I'm sure today it will be something different.... CVB is not off the table - but neither is anybody else, it seems!

@MissGotRocks -

No - not yet. I think I'll wait another day yet even if I do hear; FedEx must be out of their minds.

I just want to majorly relate to your indecision. The past week I was also sure I DEFINITELY wanted a VC 3 stone with pear sides. And now I'm really wanting a traditional 3 stone with all rounds :confused2::whistle:. I am going to let my husband choose and surprise me. Problem is I'll be giving him hints of which one I want but that will change by the day and he will surely get irritated with me :oops2:.

Whatever you choose will be outrageously beautiful and the beauty is that we can change our minds if absolutely necessary (although I'm the first to tell myself none of this is absolutely necessary!!).

I'm having fun following your journey mrs-b!

Hi @JDDN -

I reeeeeally don't want to re-set. Like - ever. My head feels like it's going to explode trying to get THIS one right - doing it again seems just...horrible! I woke up at 5am this morning to feed my dog, and the FIRST thing I thought was "a round with graduated rail set rounds...right? RIGHT??" Ugh.

Have you had a quote from Victor yet? In case you haven't, and you're interested, my quote was somewhere north of 5k but south of 6k - I can't remember exactly where it sat, but those were the general parameters. The pears he quoted was .8ctw - which surprised me; I thought they'd be slightly larger.

I still consider doing a 3 stone - even with a 4ct center! I have one stone, which would make an awesome side! - and it would be easy enough to get a second one. I suspect, tho, that I might end up pushing my 1.7 stone up to *this*, or something like it, and doing a 3 stone with 2 F VS2 rounds (I currently have one):

https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/l9y3ef-1.834-g-vs2-ideal-hearts-arrows-round

We'll see.
Which stone are you thinking of resetting? Can you post a link? I'd love to see! :wavey:

I like it, too. And I like the setting with the graduated round brilliant sides. And I like the Dahlia. And and and! So it's no surprise to me that I emailed Amy at DKJ last night and asked if my current setting could be expanded enough to fit my new stone. If it can, I'm going to put the new stone in my old setting, get their uber bench to slim down the prongs a trifle, and leave it as is till I'm completely sure what I want to do, and that I'm not throwing good money after bad. After all the rings I've looked at, I'm not even sure if I want yellow gold or platinum at this point!

I just KNOW I'm going to do a @diamondseeker2006 and 5 years from now my new diamond will still be in exactly the same setting!

LOL! Oh my goodness, I hear you! I was catching up here and saw you were thinking of a CVB solitaire and I really agree with your reasoning! I would do her solitaire, too, except for the fact I am trying to do something other than a classic solitaire! I sent for her Elsa recently, but I am still not sure! Maybe a three stone? Too many choices!!!

<trotting off immediately to look up the Elsa>

A beautiful solitaire setting is always gorgeous and I wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on a setting until I was sure either. There are always so many beautiful choices but at some point you just make a choice and enjoy it!

I really like the Elsa with the diamonds on the shoulders. I would not want to see any metal around the stone though (looking face down) and I think someone had one made where that feature was greatly reduced. Just personal preference of course

This. Exactly.

Had a long chat with Amy this afternoon and we're going to remake my ring sort of as a test case for doing hand forged designs. It will be the same design that it currently is, but we're going to see if it can be done any better. Certainly we can slim the prongs somewhat. I also want to rhodium plate the head so it's whiter; I dislike the gray of platinum. I also want a slightly thicker band - not a lot, just half a mm or so, so it's a little more stable. I won't get it for a while yet; I'm not expecting my diamond till mid September when our funds are through being drawn down - but Amy said they can start the design without having the stone in hand so long as I can give them the measurements.

At least this is something with which I feel comfortable; it's hard to beat a beautiful solitaire!

I love the head on your current solitaire so this should be really pretty! I will be very anxious to see your new sparkly!

Congratulations on coming to a decision you feel comfortable with. Your new diamond is STUNNING, and I'm sure the new (updated) setting will be equally as beautiful!

Hi mrs-b,

You know, I agree with you on a LOT. I also reeeeeally don't want to reset either! And given that whatever my husband chooses will be the stone's 3rd home I reeeeally don't want to reset ever, lol.

The stone is my 1.6 E VS2 BGD that's currently in an Erika Winters Jin bezel. In an attempt to be happy with what I have (I've changed my mind too many times and it's getting a little ridiculous) and in an attempt to have an e-ring that my husband chooses for me (it's the middle ground to my unrealistic and romantic desire to have a ring I love that my husband magically surprises me with) I have decided to reset my stone and my intent is to keep it forever and keep it forever in it's new home. So yes! I can relate to not wanting to reset, I really can!!

Victor quoted me for my stone with the pear sides about a year ago as I came very, very close to having him set it for me. I imagine it won't be largely different, but I am waiting to hear back from him with a quote for the pear trilogy and the round trilogy. I guess for your pears it depends on if you want dainty pear sides or larger pear sides......did you have any preference?

I think you should definitely do a three stone of some sort! Is your 1.7 a Canera stone? The 1.83 you linked is gorgeous and would look stunning as a 3 stone!

Well, I just read that you are going to have DK remake your solitaire which sounds absolutely lovely. I just adore the sweeping curves of the basket! Would this be the stone's forever home?

@JDDN -

I think the size of the pears in the quote was largely dictated by the size of the center stone; I'm guessing I can only go so far when my center stone is over 10mm across.

I definitely want a 3 stone and will probably use my 1.7ct stone for some version of a 3 stone. I also have a beautiful pair of .64ctw pears - G IF. They were cut as a pair, and they're really lovely. But I also like rings I can SEE, so I've thought about doing *this* design, but in all diamonds and with a round center - same as Lost Sapphire's 'Blueberry' but with a diamond center:

https://www.leonmege.com/portfolio/shop-now/natural-unheated-burma-ruby-ring-detail

The fact that I have these pears is the biggest reason I don't want to do that style with my new stone; I want to use the pears I have and I don't want 2 identical rings of different sizes. The 1.7ct stone I have is a Canera H&A - H VS2. I want to use it in a three stone because it's so much smaller than my new stone. I do think 1.7ct is a lovely size, tho, and it's very, very pretty.

Re my new stone, the more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to go with remaking my current setting...but better. And yes - I may well stay with it. FOREVER. :-o So that would give me a large solitaire, and either a 3 stone round with pears, or a ring as per the one I linked to above - one of those. I also have a .95 and a .63 stone as well. Those are F VS2 and E VS2 respectively and one of them will be a small solitaire. The other one might be step one in a new pair of studs. I think the .95 stone would be a very sweet solitaire, and I actually like diamonds of this size - very much. It would just be a travel ring, but I think I'd probably wear it more often than that.

JDDN - I had thought you were selling your 1.6ct stone? Did you change your mind? If so...great! I love that stone! What will you do with your Jin setting? If that were only my size! :)

And good luck to your husband! He's a brave, brave man....
