Please help me-
I've had such a hard time finding someone to custom make a setting for my diamond- if any can remember I went around and around with Kay Jewelers for 2 years to get the right diamond and ANY setting that didn't fall apart after wearing it 1 hour- Finally thing are resolved with them, but now I have a loose diamond in need of a mounting and I'd love to be able to finally wear my ring. I got it 2 years ago and it's been on my finger a total of 3 months in the past 2 years :((
I live near Phoenix, AZ and need ANY help possible in a custom jeweler in the Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe ish area- I am willing to drive for greatness!!
I only want a simple rose gold - tiffany ish - setting - nothing super fancy- I want the focus to be on the stone - I'll post pics - I don't image what I want being very expensive, so Im not limiting the budget-
Please help as any advice is greatly appreciated!!
I don't have pics of my new stone just yet, but I'll post as soon as I get it in the mail on Friday!
Thank you all in advance!
*also if this should be posted elsewhere please do let me know- I thought this would be the best place for it*

What design are you looking for? Do you have pics of your inspiration rings? Also, it would be good to know your budget. Would you be willing to ship your diamond within the US for greatness?

I edited my post to reflect- I only want a simple tiffany setting in all rose gold- as simple as possible- I want the stone to be the main focus- no real budget as I can't imagine what I want being to costly-
It's taken me 2 years to get ahold of this stone and I can't image being away for much longer from it- so I don't know about mailing it off- especially since I don't want anything that would require extreme talent (I still want someone local who can give me their advice on the setting that will hold my stone- the last jeweler designed it too thin and it broke after 1 hour- so I still want someone great- it's just not for tedious work) - if I were wanting a micropave halo or filigree I'd mail it to one of the phenomenal jewelry designers I read about on here - however, for now I just want it in a simple setting and on my finger lol

So you just want a rose gold solitare?

I'm not sure of a local jeweler in Phoenix but for a soiltare it really shouldn't be that hard to find. I would just check out local places and see their craftmanship. I would also ask about returns if you don't like the setting or something happens to the ring.

For a solitare I personally wouldn't send out my diamond, however I second the previous poster with asking are you willing to ship it somewhere? And is your diamond insured for shipping? I know Whiteflash and Brian Gavin Diamodns are located in TX which are excellent vendors to use and I really love both of their rose alloys in particular. I have worked with both of them on simple straight forward projects and it is easy peasy. A solitare at either of these places would be more most cost effective route. If you want to spend more you could look into setting your setting to other vendors in NYC/ LA but for a simple soiltare once again I would probably just go with a local place. They will most likely have the fastest turn around time AND have much better quality then Kays! Just make sure you have something in writting from them about what to do if you have problems with the setting or don't like it. I doubt you will but I'm a big fan of insurance for expectations.

Sorry OP we cross posted at the same time. Do you remember how thin your previous shank was? Also what size finger are you?

Tiffany solitare should be easy. You might even be able to order in a Vatche setting and just have someone local set it. That is what I would probably do.

Edit: I believe it is the Vatche U113 that is the Tiffany solitare look alike. Just find a jeweler who will order that setting for you and set your diamond. Hope that helps!

Oh man... I typed out this great response an POOF it' gone! :nono: I agree with you about a local jeweler and I didn't realize I could order a setting and have someone local set it - that might be the best idea- Im so scared to run into another "kays" situation again- my fiancé chose Kays, it was never my choice lol - but I wasn't involved until after the initial diamond purchase and then it was too late- as he bought the ring and purposed 6 months later - so too late for a return :( so I stuck them out as long as I could- but now we're FREE!!! :appl:
And so I was hoping for some great advice here on what to do with the setting especially since I want something so plain-
the band diameter of the last one that broke was 1.5mm and the prongs were less than that I think they were .75 each- I had drawn the setting as a tiffany if a little more square and boxy than I'd like as a OMC is more curvy and chunky and in my world cupcakey lol and so a squared setting wasn't perfect so I wanted the prongs to curve up as if cupping the diamond (if you can imagine that) and the jeweler made the dimensions- the thing was SO thin-I could bend everything with just my fingers- and the diamond fell out after 1 hour! Then the jeweler came back and said it was too thin for that big of a stone, UM WHAT?! Then why did you make it that way?! I said I wanted sleek and classic and as thin as possible (not a chunky setting as I want to see the shape of the stone) but geesh- it's their job to tell me what's best- ANYWAY lol - I'll look into those settings to order and possibly have someone here just set it.. Thanks!!

No problem, and yes a 1.5mm shank on such a large stone can be a bad idea. I have a thin eternity that has gone all wonky and out of round due to the thin shank. I think my 5ct is on a shank that is 1.9mm and it is holding up well, but it also spins. I would stick close to 2 or 2.5mm especially if you are hard on your hands. Even at 2.5mm I think rings can still look very delicate.

If you search on PS there is a rose gold thread (something along the lines of Show Me Your Rose Gold) and I want to say there are a few rose gol solitares if you want inspiration.

Hi there!

If you are still interested in a really delicate shank, mine is 1.8mm at the widest tapering to 1.5mm so suuuuuper thin. It is VERY sturdy though. ERD did an amazing job melding the 2 requests. I would highly recommend them for what you are considering and they are priced VERY well...less than the Vatche U113. Here is a pic and link to my setting if you are interested. ;) Good luck!!!

For local jewelers, I use Z's Fine Jewerlry in Peoria for all my bench work. Their jewelry prices are on the high side, but the bench guy knows his stuff and those rates are good. All the work is done on site, not shipped out, which I like. http://www.zsfinejewelry.com/ They carry several designers, plus can order Stuller mounts.

Gary Dutton is also a good local guy, I think you have to get an appointment first though. I've only done things my mail with him (he's in Chandler I believe) but he was great to work with and his bench guy did a good job setting a gem in platinum and sizing a ring for me http://diamondexpert.com/index.html
