I keep a box of rings {inexpensive ones} out on my nitetable, rather visible when you walk in. I also have a few strands of costume jewelry ''pearls'' on a stand out in the open.
I''m not saying WHERE my good stuff is....![]()
I do something like this - the jewelry box on my dresser has costume pieces, and I hide the good stuff.
This actually works. I used to do this in our old condo. I had a nice jewelry box with costume pieces and a few better jewelry pieces that I didn''t wear anymore, were broken, didn''t like, etc. I hid the real stuff elsewhere. We were burglarized once and the decoy jewelry box was cleaned out, but none of my good stuff was touched. The nice thing about a decoy box (if it''s believable) is that the thieves will stop looking for jewelry because they think they''ve found it already. Unless you have very sophisticated thieves who have lots of time, they won''t stop to examine it much. They just scoop it out and move on.
