Similar to the requests of @ean, @donnabrsd and @Rockerchic, I would be grateful for your help in finding a blue sapphire. My budget is $2.5k and I’m hoping for a non-elongated/square cushion of 7 mm+. I assume this means I need to focus on sellers abroad in Sri Lanka and Thailand. I am fine with that so long as other PSers have had positive transactions with the seller. However, because returns would be quite a hassle, I want to feel confident about any potential purchase. This is why I could use your expert help!

I’m planning to set the stone in the ring design below, which both @Cerulean and I love. This is a ring that Diana of Sin City Finds has made a few times. She recently decided to stop accepting custom work and gave me her blessing to have another jeweler replicate it. (And in any case, it is in itself a replica of an antique ring.)

I’m not sure what the proper terminology is to describe the shade of blue I’d like, but I’ll try: I’d like an electric, light Royal Blue with intense saturation and rich color that can be seen glowing from across the room. While I live in a largely sunny place now, there is a good chance we’ll be moving to a mostly overcast place, so I’d like a stone that doesn’t go completely dark under gloomy, gray skies.

Am I asking for the moon on such a modest budget? :-)

Thank you in advance for your help. I’ve had some bad luck with jewelry in the past so would be too scared to make this purchase on my own!

I’ve reached out to a few vendors without much luck so far:

Nafees at Gem Ocean has an oval that looks pretty to me but no cushions, though he is checking if he can find one.
Neither Jeff Davies nor Ivan at Adamant have any square cushions in my size.
GemHouseLK had a couple but one is much too light - more cornflower blue - and the other seems to my untrained eye to have some extinction. Gem Fielders only has ovals. In the US, Ivy and Rose has one, but it is darker than I’d like and Alex Parks doesn’t have any any.

Anywhere else I should look?

Here’s the one from GemHouseLK. Am I right about the extinction?

Super excited to see this unfold!!! I also think this setting could look great with a round stone! Maybe a really chubby oval

The stone you shared looks dark considering your desire for an "electric" color - I worry it will be even dark once set

Can you share your "dream color" as an example, realism aside? It might help!

Here is a thread with pics of my blue sapphire I got from Nafees (Gemocean on instagram ...as an example) - it was 2.8k, but I am not sure if that budget would be attainable again: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...-setting-for-my-sapphire.262075/#post-4868284

Higems is another vendor i know a PSer has bought from...was it @lovedogs jedi spinel? Can't remember....

@Lilith112 can you recommend any other trustworthy vendors?

I have encountered plenty of other vendors on my hunts...but not sure if PSers have bought from them yet.

@mamadelmar I have no advise to give as I am new to the sapphire world as well. I look forward to seeing your journey to your perfect ring. The setting is lovely!

Yup, I bought from him and had a great experience

Here’s another photo of the GemHouseLK stone.

Realism aside, my dream colors would be, on the lighter side, that of @Acinom ‘s famous ring and on the darker side, that of @Niel ‘s sapphire in her three-stone ring. D40FDB3C-5C10-445C-95FF-A11395B0AC20.pngF279A619-2EC2-4549-A73F-BC6EA07F670C.jpeg

I’m hard on my hands but want this to be a ring I can wear 24/7 so may put a partial bezel or long tab prongs on the stone to protect it (though I much prefer the look of delicate claw prongs), which to your point, could further darken the stone.

I can’t wait to see your completed ring, @Cerulean!

I'm no help for you, but sincerely hope you can find a blue in your dream color within your budget. Acinom and Neil's rings are holy grail blue for me too! (Not shopping, on a buying freeze)

I think ask @arkieb if any of the stones she had for sale are still arround. She sourced niel's stone I believe.

I hope you end up with a lovely ring.

@arkieb1 - do you have any sapphires that might fit the bill?

Hi, I have one cushion currently listed for sale and another stone that might work for you, but LT is currently not working and the whole site is down due to construction. I am on IG if you wish to contact me, however, I am not sure I am allowed to put the link to that here.

I would *love* to see the stones! I’ve sent a message through the PriceScope “Contact Us” page and asked the admins to advise whether you could post your handle here, given that LT is down. Hopefully, they’ll weigh in soon.

you should be able to find her on IG

The colour you love is the top colour so very in demand and pricey.
I found this one on Etsy. Don’t know the seller but worth a look at the video perhaps.
Seller is Izraprive.

Here are a few pretty ones I saw on Instagram.
The only vendor i've ordered from is BG Stones and I had a good experience with them.
Most of these will need to DM for pricing, but hope these give you a starting point for your search!

The BG one is gorgeous! I've purchased from Ceylon Sapphire before. It was a beautiful stone! He is super nice, too. I have another one on its way. For Earth's Treasury, go to their website for more info. The Gemfielders is pretty, but very different from the others.

Just me, but I wouldn't buy from the first one with so few followers and no one "known" follows them.

Mmm since we are listing IG accounts we run through frequently or follow

**please do not post PS user's IG accounts**

(Only just created, so content is lacking but the jeweler generally has nice stones, have seen and checked many of them personally).

Oh one more thing, dont lean too dark. Your sapphire will darken a little on setting, and even more so under night time lighting. Try to lean at least one tone lighter than youre ideal.

Gorgeous! I'm now following- thanks for the info!

Thank you! @arkieb1 has generously spent the last two hours educating me about sapphires via Instagram DM. I now know how little I know (!) but have come to the conclusion that you’re right, @qubitasaurus, I need to go a shade lighter and also, the quality that seems most important to me in a stone is vividness.

I still haven’t found any 7-8 mm square stones in the sweet spot so please keep the suggestions coming!

I'm wondering how important it is that the cushion be square? Starlanka, for example, has a number of cushions (they accept Paypal) in your price range but none of them are square.

Since a lot of these stones are cut to maximize weight, you would see a lot more non-calibrated ovals and cushions.

It doesn’t have to be a precise square cushion, but I don’t want it to be too elongated. (I actually have small hands/short fingers with limited real estate.) If I haven’t managed to find one in a few weeks, I’ll reconsider the ring design, perhaps either modifying the one I’m planning to use or doing a classic three-stone ring with diamonds on either side of the sapphire. (Incidentally, one of my favorite IG accounts is Michael Rose London and they frequently have gorgeous three-stone sapphire rings. https://instagram.com/michaelroselondon?igshid=1rluw61m22wds )

This one is close to square, from the IG seller I bought from recently. My stone was less saturated than the photos, so I suggest you ask for indoor photos rather than sunlight ones. It does have strong half and half shadowing which I don’t normally expect in a square cushion.

This is an Asscher cut which I think won’t black out at all, but the color might be much less saturated than the royal blue you want:

Folks a remember to please not post personal IG links to Pricescope for everyone's safety. You are welcome to post shop links, but if the user is running a shop, they are not allowed to post their items for sale/promote them on Preloved, nor can someone affiliated with them.

Please respect the policies, thanks!

I haven’t had luck finding a square-shaped cushion so am going to use a different ring design to better accommodate a different shape. GemOcean showed me this stone and I’d love your thoughts:

There are videos of it here:

Knowing it will darken once set, is it light enough? I’m beginning to wonder if I shouldn’t be targeting dark cornflower blue stones. Any other concerns?

For instance, if I want the stone to present as a light Royal Blue, should I be targeting stones this color? C8BBD0C0-34C0-46A1-A169-ED0E0F4278D3.jpeg

I think this stone could be beautiful if it will darken when set and under gray, gloomy skies, but will it look Royal Blue?
This one is a bit beyond my budget as it’s unheated.

@mamadelmar do you feel comfortable sharing the price? Not a problem if you prefer not to. I messaged GemOcean about an hour ago inquiring about another item, so I can get it directly from him.
